View Full Version : Altezza lights...there may be hope
cueball 11-08-2002, 09:11 PM I haven't seen any rear end pics of the newest rx8, but there is hope that they still may put somewhat normal tail lights on the 8. Almost all versions of the mazda 6 concept had a somekind of altezza lights, but in the production they are almost normal. Sorry if someone pointed this out, but i figured that it might have interested some people. Here are the pics of what i mean.

Donny Boy 11-08-2002, 10:16 PM I saw the Mazda6 at the New England Auto Show and it had the "good" lights. Hope it makes it into production.
Toadman 11-08-2002, 10:31 PM The Mazda6 for the US does NOT have the "Altezza-look" taillights, but may be an accessory
danger 11-09-2002, 01:44 AM from the first picture above: are those the taillights that will be available on the car? If so i like it.
however, i've seen in some magazine reviews that the mazda 6 that they are testing has the "redder" tails.
what's the word?
TekkamanX5 11-09-2002, 01:48 AM This is an RX8 forum, not no damn altezza RICER website. No further dicussion, for it will result in making the RX8 look bad. I think we all know what we should do...
Toadman 11-09-2002, 01:53 AM Yes we do... You've got a PM, Tekkaman.

MattFast 11-09-2002, 06:11 AM The Atenza/Mazda6 had those red lights in America. The rest of the world has clear lights
That yellow one has kinda black lights..
cueball 11-09-2002, 07:05 AM What i am trying to say is that the original Mazda 6 concept had altezza type light, but they changed them to the red type for production. Since the 8 has those lights on the pre production model they still might change them to a redder looking light. I look back and see i didn't make that very clear. And the top picture is the production picture taken from the mazda website.
Grimace 11-09-2002, 09:11 AM It is possible that the North American RX-8 will have red tails, but I doubt it. You wouldn't get to see all the silver "jewellry" behind the clear lenses with red lenses.
Mazda man 11-09-2002, 02:33 PM To be honest I actually like the altezza rear lights and I don't know why everyone else doesn't. I hate "riced" cars too but I don't think they make the 8 look ricey.
Could some plz tell me why everyone hates them?
zoom44 11-09-2002, 02:36 PM i dont hate em. they look good on this car. as long as they look good i dont care what the are called. it sounds like backlash do to the racerboys having them!
Mazda man 11-09-2002, 02:40 PM it sounds like backlash do to the racerboys having them!
Thats what I thought.
Grimace 11-09-2002, 02:53 PM I don't hate them. I think they're well done, and I like the detail behind the lenses.
Poorly done clear lenses, like on the back of every 87 Civic, are another matter...

yeah you definetly have a point there
rpm_pwr 11-09-2002, 05:44 PM here in OZ we got the rice lights on the 6 :( at the exact same time the importers started getting the lights for Civics. It's wierd to see a honda without them now.
On a different note, I saw an R33 Skyline GTS with the outside rear circle lights that appeared to 'spin' around. It was the saddest thing I have ever seen. I wanted to kill him. This tail-light thing upsets me so much I won't buy an rx-8 if it has them. I know it's a rash statement, but it's the little things that bother you about a new car that you start to hate.

Cihuuy 11-11-2002, 05:58 AM From where i live... the mazda6 have clear tail lights... like the altezza... that means that the Rx8 in some part of the country will have clear tail lights...
I dont hate them, but i like the first pix wiv the red tail lights... just my .02 ;)
Btw, what are those on the bottom side of the bumper?? never seen them b4... are they rear fog lights??? it doesn't look big enough for a fog lights... any info?

i read this somewhere too. america will have the "all red" taillights, b/c the altezza/clear ones look reminiscent of the nissan altima lights. the rest of the world will get the clear lights.
I dunno. Just a vague memory of all that I've read about the 6.
Anyway, FWIW i think the rx8 taillights is will still be that "altezza" style, for the same reason as grimace pointed out, "jewelry".
RotorMotor 12-05-2002, 01:25 PM I like the Altezza lights on the 8 as well. IMHO you'd have to $%#& quite a bit to make the 8 look rice. 'Course, I've been waiting for this car for years so I'd be happy with just about anything. :p I think a white RX8 with Altezza lights and pitch-black tinted windows would look tight.... As long as you don't go slappin' on the loudest, most obnoxious muffler you can find, a rediculous 24" wing on the back and plaster Nitto stickers to every window....
HitUpOlas 12-10-2002, 04:20 AM I was forced into needing a tail-light on my now for sale 00 civicSI. I bought a set of altezzas off a friend for $20. I couldn't stand the chrome so I painted the inside housing the matching color of the car. I know Mazda wouldn't do this just for parts simplicity. If I hate the altezzas too much on my 8 when I get it then I'll just get a set of the "standard type" lights from whatever country gets them or paint them the way I did my hondas.
Quick_lude 12-10-2002, 05:34 PM Good job.. looks good.
HiWin 12-17-2002, 06:17 PM I think I'll get the RX-8 either way, not sure if the tail light scheme will deter me from getting the car. I can always change the tail lights if I don't like it, it's only a fraction of what the car is worth monetarily and personally.
Note disclaimer here - This is only my opinion:
If you have the money, you can do what ever you want to your car that you see fit, be it Altezza lights or ricing it out. Just remember the two freedoms. 1) Freedom to: you have the freedom to do whatever you want to your car as long as you're happy with what you did. 2) Freedom from: but don't expect not to get razzed by other people if they don't agree with your taste. Freedom 1 and 2 don't go hand in hand.
Lensman 08-08-2003, 12:07 PM The RX-8's lights look a lot better in reality than images, especially when lit. They're nowhere near as unpleasant as the Lexus horrors.
seikx8 08-08-2003, 01:57 PM Now why anyone would make an RX8 to look like something else? I would not! It already look good as is.
mikeb 08-08-2003, 07:11 PM I'm gonna make mine look different because I want my 8 to be unique and not like everyone elses
cueball 08-08-2003, 07:42 PM This is a really old thread and at the time very few if any of us had actually seen the RX8. Now that I have seen it is agree that they are really nice looking and add to the car.
Isn't dredging up old threads fun.:)

j-apex rx 08-08-2003, 09:50 PM i read on car & drive that usa wasn't getting the clear light because they didn't want to be call copy cats because of the SI 300 and altima have the same style of taillights in the usa.
