this is my first rotary and searched for egr valve or egr and came up with nothing. does this car have no egr valve? i highly doubt this since it is available in the u.s. the reason why i'm asking is because i'm thinking for high flow cats and back pressure and adding a high flow cat might cause failed smogs down the road, (residing in CA).

There is no EGR valve. It is not required because NOx emissions are low on rotary engines and are easily handled by the catalytic converter.
High flow cats on 2nd and 3rd gen cars were OK for passing emissions, don't know about RX8s.

thank you. i'm still a bit clueless about emissions on rotaries. my past car failed smog due to a high flow cat and possibly loss of back pressure from the egr. just wanted to do a little research on the egr valve, that the rx8 doesn't have before getting a high flow cat. hah. thanks again.

The side exhaust ports has something to do with it.
