View Full Version : The sheep are begining to line up to the slaughter.
Digital_Damage 06-28-2007, 02:41 PM OREM, Utah — A 17-year-old waiter at a rice-pudding restaurant was the first to stand in line at an AT&T store here to buy Apple Inc.'s iPhone.
George Thaut was the only person in line Wednesday, two days after his vigil began.
"It's Apple. I think it's worth it," said Thaut, who will have to wait until Friday for the right to shell out $600 for the most expensive iPhone, a cell phone that can play music and videos and surf the Internet.
Thaut has never spent more than $200 on a cell phone _ a Motorola he plans to hand off to a sister when he gets his hands on an 8-gigabyte iPhone.
"I didn't think I'd be spending $400 on my video iPod, either. Apple's expensive, but I'm a big supporter," he said. "They know what's cool and I like all of their products."
Thaut may have been early to the party, but he expected to be joined shortly by other campers for Friday's release.
He was hoping to take a break from his idleness Wednesday night, using a brother as a stand-in.
"I'll hit it hard again" Thursday, he said.
A cheaper, 4-gigabyte version of the iPhone will cost $500, but Thaut plans to spring for the model with double the digital memory for another $100.
He'll play $60 a month for 450 minutes, the cheapest available plan from AT&T, which is providing exclusive service for the iPhone.
"It's an iPod. It's a phone. It's the Internet _ it's all of those things," said Thaut, sounding like an advertising man. "It's got a 2-megapixel camera, too."
Gotta love apple fan boys :lol2:

Bad_Bob 06-28-2007, 02:50 PM I would never do that. I never camped out for concert tickets either. Some people are addicted to Apple. I work with a few apple Nazi’s. Yes and I quote them, "If its not made by apple than its an inferior product." Last year they used to think that Intel was junk. Now it is better than sliced bread, also they believe that there is no one smart enough to write a virus for Macs. I tell you some people. There are allot of sheep. Just look at those RX 8 owners. OH wait I am one of them.. Dam it...

No More Oldsmobiles 06-28-2007, 04:57 PM rice pudding restaurant?
Just think of all the ways the iPhone will help his job of serving rice pudding.
Digital_Damage 06-28-2007, 05:30 PM You have to stir the bowl with something, why not an overpriced phone.
BlueEyes 06-28-2007, 05:31 PM I saw a picture in one of today's papers of the line up for the phone. All the people in line looked like they were on welfare. It amused me greatly.
dillsrotary 06-28-2007, 05:46 PM the plan is pretty good, $60 usd a month for 450 min, 200 texts, and unlimited internet (if i remember the article correctly.) I heard you can not send pics though
mysql101 06-28-2007, 05:52 PM I can't understand phone plans.
I get a 20% discount on verizon stuff, so I browsed phone plans today and couldn't figure this crap out.
So I went to t-mobile and had the same issue...
Here's an example, in addition to the monthly plan, there are additional options.. I just want to browse the web and get on AIM:
For $14.95 I can get:
Messaging
Domestic Text, Instant, Picture & Video Messaging
Send and receive short e-mails, text and instant messages (up to 140 characters), and even picture and video messages using your T-Mobile phone! $0.15 per additional domestic message.
Okay, instant messages! Yay! but uh.... up to 140 character limit? Maybe that isn't the same instant message that I am thinking of (AIM vs texting), and the friggin thing still costs me $0.15 per message on top of the $15 fee? gah
so next option:
For $5.95 I can get:
T-MobileWeb
Search the mobile Web, find directions to the places you want to go, get local, international, and financial news, stock quotes, weather, sports, play online games, e-mail, community chat, and more, right at your fingertips anywhere you go.
Yay! I can get on the web... errr... mobile web? Sounds lame. But it has email and community chat.. whatever the heck that is.
Okay, for an additional $29.95, I can get this option:
T-Mobile Internet
The T-Mobile Total Internet Add On Feature gives you unlimited Internet access and unlimited T-Mobile HotSpot access. Use T-Mobile Internet to access your e-mail and browse the Internet no matter where you are. Does not include text/insant messaging.
Woo! Finally. Unlimited internet access! Just what I needed...errr... doesn't include instant messaging? wtf.
I give up.

As far as the minutes go you really don't need more than that if you're a stickler for waiting til 7 to make every phone call in the world.
200 texts seems a little small though...I'm not that big into texting, and even I can use that many in 1 months time...
Unlimited internet?! Yes! :lol2: I have to pay an arm and a leg to get that from Sprint. It's like 15 dollars!
I pay almost 70 Dollars a month right now for around the same minutes, no free texts, and unlimited internet usage/photo sharing that I never signed up for. Yes?
Maybe I should shell out the 600 something dollars to get a plan with ATT&T...Even though I hate Mac computers, I love my iPod to death, and if I like that so much I'm sure to love having an iPhone. So sound pretty nice.
You'd think a man that works at a Rice Pudding Restraunt would barely be able to afford a 65 dollars a month plan, let a lone a 600 dollar phone...Who knows, maybe he's a manager or something.

I know exactly how you feel. I was thinking about switching to t-mobile a month ago because of the release of the Sidekick 3 and the cool things I was hearing about it, went to the website encountered what you just said and then lost interest in the whole thing.
The sprint site is almost just as bad!
My next step is to go into the store and ask them wtf is going on and see what they can do.
BlueEyes 06-28-2007, 10:22 PM After reading these plans, I'd stick with my Blackberry 8800

Actually the plan isn't bad at all. I think normally it's like 30-40 bucks for unlimited internet alone. The plans are much more reasonable than I expected. I expected the cheapest to run you like like 80-90 bucks. Most places have their plans start at 30 bucks, then it's usually 40 for unlimited internet... I was paying 40 for 450 minutes alone when I was on Verizon.
