I have driven rental cars more than my own.... I went to pick my 8 up after a faulty airbag had to be replaced and an oil change (all together took about a week) and when I went to drive away from the dealer I could barely get it into gear, I got about 2 miles from the dealership at a stop and could not get the car into any gear. About 10 minutes later of moving the gear shift around I got it into 2nd and drive back to the dealership going about 15 mph. The pedal went almost to the floor with very little pressure, and when the clutch would grab it was JUST off the floor (maybe like 1/2 inch and it would start to grab) My car drove perfect when i brought it in, so theres no reason that should have changed from getting an airbag replaced or changing my oil. 3 days later, I go to Mazda in person to see whats going on with the car, and they show me an estimate of $1700 for a new clutch. I asks the service manager to talk to the techs and he came back saying that I brought the car in like this when I brought it in for the airbag!!! How would I have driven it there? Why wouldn't I have also told them to fix that at that time if that was true? Basically I am being lied to.

I have already called mazdausa and they are "looking into it" and are going to call me back.

What are your experiences with this problem?

I thought it might be vapor lock or something. Your car is under warranty still right? So...nothing to worry about :)

Broken clutch pedal bracket. Do a search on the matter and tell the dealer to check it. It is a warranty item.

what charles says, and a tsb that makes the problem likely to happen...

Sounds like the 17 year old Lube Tech burned up you're clutch trying to drift it on an unauthorized "Test Drive"

altho i have heard you can remove the miles from some cars i would really look at my miles on the car to see if anything doesn't look right and talk to a manager who is on the level!that does not sound normal at all and i have had my clutch, pressure plate and t/o bearing replaced under wro.
