guys,

as a seperate thread, and a general feel for the value of our current cars. (i know its all on the look of the car as well as SH/options etc). How much do you think your car is worth.
I know this is subjective but what the hell....

My is200 SE manual 6 speed with navigator is Green on a W (00) plate (very late June) with 43000 miles on clock. full service history.

Looking at autotrader i can get anything from 9500 - 14000 for it.

more inclined to go for 12500 maybe 13000. How much is it worth in terms of book price cause thats all we are getting as a trade in value?

Anyone got a copy of glass's guide?

MX-6(UK) 2.5 V6 K plate 130k miles.
Body starting to show a bit of rust (rear arch).

Top trade 2,000 quid, in it's current state Mazda offering 1,200, with corrective work, 1,500.

Work will cost 300 quid so on trade in it isn't worth doing.

However might get up to 2,500 for private sale, but then I might end up without a car for a week or so....

Decisions, decisions....

dealers will laugh if you mention Parkers to them , CAP or Glasses is what you need and the dealer will quote you the value from whichever of the two is lower!

Again - if anyone wants me to check the current CAP values (I have access to current used car values through my job), email me you reg no and mileage to the nearest 1000 and I'll either email you back or post the results on the thread (say in your email.) :)

this is the problem i think most of us face.

Do i part company with it now and buy a "banger" to use for trade in and hope it dont break down. I rely on my motor. (or dump the banger on wife and use her new car)

If only we had a date to work with we can work around this.

Andy, could you PM me on here instead of e-mail?

Works network is stuffed and they've surfcontrolled the innerweb (cut down on bandwidth), all apart from the rx-8 forums!

Can you post the current mileage on the thread - I can't access my talk21 account at the moment but have all of the other info I need.

Titanium Grey - do you want me to post the vluation on here or PM you?

Might as well post mine here too.

Milage is 68000. Cars not in 100% quality nick, a few scratches, needs a service (4k ago), part from that fairly tidy.

Ok here we go, I'm going to post 3 values for each vehicle, Retail, CLean and Average. Retail is the price we would expect a dealer to be asking on the forecourt, Clean is the expected PX value for an example in very good condition for it's age and average is if it's starting to show signs of wear and tear or missing service history but is still basically good.

A couple of things to note is that the retail value would include a dealer warranty in most cases so private sales tend to be less than retail, I tend to go for the midpoint between Retail and Clean for a private sale price. These values are based on no extras but we (the finco I work for) have the view that extras are never worth anymore than 10% of there original value on a used car.

cw007 - Retail : £12,140
Clean : £10,285
Average : £9,656

Titanium Grey - Retail : £2,993
Clean : £1,497
Average : £1,310

Rob - Retail : £4,861
Clean : £3,682
Average : £3,288

cw007 - I've PM'd you about something I noticed on your Motorsearch which I'm sure you're aware of but just thought I'd check.

Hope this helps guys :)

Don't be surprised if Mazda only offer you betweeb £3,000 and £3,500. Dealers are very aware of the fast rate at which used values are dropping and trying to ensure that they build in a bit leeway to give them a buffer between you trading the car in and them disposing of it. I was offered over £1k less than CAP clean on mine by a different dealership, they are really being stingy at the moment unless there is a good profit margin in the car , which on the 8 is not the case.

Lube up well mate I'm afraid!:p

Can you PM me the reg no as that will allow me to get a more accurate CAP code for your car.

Looks like remedial work and private sale is a no brainer for me then, only hope a buyer comes forward before the car arrives, otherwise I might lose out on another few hundred quid.

Private sale is always a no brainer as long as you have the time and can put up with the hassle of a private sale.

In nromal circumstances if a dealer offers you a better PX value than the private sale values it means that you can knock a lot of the value off the car for a cash sale, more than difference between px and private usually.

Sold my TT privately - going this Sunday. Worth the hassle for the better price I got against Mazda's offer..

Mazda dealer is selling me a 1996 White Laguna! Buying it back again when the 8 comes in - shouldnt cost me more than 100-200 quid for a months use.
