does the inside of the trunk gets really hot after a long drive?

what about the insulation for the passenger compartment?

I havent had passenger's complain but others say passengers notice excessive heat

The floor of the trunk gets real warm on my car, especially in the square 'well' in the bottom......

To keep the groceries cool, I use the outside air vent position, which forces air thru the trunk and out. I also put a layer of silvered 'bubble wrap' type insulation under the carpet, cut to fit.

In saying "the trunk dosen't" MikeB might be generalizing a bit much from his own personal experience. There are a number of individuals (including me) who have talked about this issue (see for example this thread (http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10911)).

What has surprised me is the lack of responses that this subject has generated on the Forum. This could mean one of two things:

(1) there is a small subset of cars that have insulation problems or
(2) people's tolerence/expectations are sufficiently different that the vast majority of people do not care about this comfort issue

I would really like to hear what those who live in warmer climates (e.g., Florida, Southern California, Texas) are experiencing. It would be nice to know if this was a "problem" or a "feature."

I have asked my dealer and he said that they will check my insulation next time I swing by.

i also noticed that the area under the hand brake runs hot last time when i came home from a 7 mile trip

The answer is (2). There is no doubt that we all have the same exact insulation throughout the car. In Texas in the summer, heat rises throughout the entire car once ridden and parked for a while.

Infact you shouldn't ask people from the warmer climates, as the air-con will be on most of the time, they won't feel the heat.

Just like the Miata, the footwell and the shifter area gets warm after some drive with the top down. But when I've the top up and the air-con on, I don't feel the heat at all.

if you turn the fan on without AC, will it blow hot air from the vents inside the car?

it get pretty hot in the trunk, i think is from ther exhaust and our trunk are air tight creating hot air pocket

My interest in hearing from our hot weather friends is because I found this to be an issue only when temperatures were above 75-80 degrees. Now that is in the 60s or below here in Boston, I do not experience any noticiable center-console or interior heating. So, I guess cool air flow outside dispates the heat effectively.

I wouldn't even consider bringing home ice cream in the trunk! Yes, it gets pretty hot in there.

Thanks Tomster. A couple of questions if you do not mind: Do you find that the AC can adequately cool the car so that it is comfortable to drive? How much "down time" is required to cool down center console? Any thoughts on this thread (http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11680) ?
