Great finish for the guys from South Florida. They just need to keep away from the Pontiacs and blow away the Porsches. That was really a close call when the Mustang lost it right in front of the RX-8.
Am I imagining things our is Edwards a little abusive on the track? I still don't like the way he hit the Rx-8 in the previous race. But I did see the RX-8 bump the Pontiac at the beginning of the Mid-Ohio race. Payback?
rotary crazy 06-25-2007, 09:01 AM I love the bump :)
did you see how close the damage came to the oil cooler after the mustang incident?
I think the speedsource guys where driving a bit more aggressive, in previous races they where too defesive ( specially Trembley) and that was causing them some problems, they where getting push and hit all over the track, but i like the way they drove here
DarkBrew 06-25-2007, 09:04 AM Was this on TV? All the TV guys ever seem to put on is stupid NASCAR!! WTF?
Anyway, congrats to the Speedsource guys!
rotary crazy 06-25-2007, 09:15 AM yes it was on speed on sunday, it will be re-broadcast this week
CosmosMpower 06-25-2007, 09:26 AM It was on Speed. There was also Champ car, Rolex Daytona and IRL on TV this weekend so just check the TV listings.
PaPaBear 06-25-2007, 09:47 AM I love the bump :)

The spoiler of the Pontiac was reset by the Mazda when he popped him. You are correct, they need to be more aggressive and not be pushed around.
RPIRX-8 06-25-2007, 10:04 AM A big CONGRATULATIONS are definitely in order!!! What a race!! The move to first that Nick Ham made on the restart after the second (?) full course yellow was just pure bliss to watch. And even after a spin and a 10 sec penalty (doh!! make that guy sleep with his helmet and visor taped down for a week!!) they still managed to get back on the podium and hold off the 06 Banner car which was smokin fast. Excellent day. Also congrats to the team behind the scenes for getting the #70 rebuilt from total disaster in 10 days, another great feat.
SouthFL 06-25-2007, 10:19 AM Nice braking vs. the GXP.R
Great race to watch. It was much more interesting than the DP coverage.
RA-Eight 06-25-2007, 11:33 AM Definitely a good race and congrats to the Speedsource team. The rx8club was represented by the Columbus owners who caravanned to the event Sunday morning. We sat right at the end of the back straight entering the S turn. It was very eventful!
The #70 car (Hamm and Tremblay) was fun to watch. What surprised me is that it was faster in the straights than it was in the turns!
A few of our members took pics, and hopefully they'll post soon.
Nemesis8 06-25-2007, 01:42 PM I loved the incar camera shots. The 3-rotor sounds awesome.

it is faster in the straits for two reasons, the rear tires are smaller than other cars so even with a lot of down force they dont turn much better than the rest and they lose a lot of strait line speed, so they just run less win, that way what they lose in the turns they make up in the straits
rotary crazy 06-25-2007, 02:12 PM I was not able to see what happeng to the #69 car, they where running very strong then they drop out of the map, any info? bad pit strategy?
a couple of pics more
RA-Eight 06-25-2007, 03:27 PM That was the question of the day. I just remember it was 3rd or 4th full course yellow and everyone was going in for a pit stop. We went to see the board, and #69 wasn't listed. Prior to this it didn't look like it had issues running. At that point he was in front of #70.
mrthundercleese 06-25-2007, 04:44 PM Watching Tremblay eat the field in the last 20mins of the race was some good stuff. Congrats to the team on a nice comeback race after being down. #70 was handing out the love taps all day .
I'd also like to know what happened to the 69 car. They really fell off the map....
RA-Eight 06-25-2007, 05:29 PM I tell you what, the pair of 8s had the most distinct sound of the bunch. You can always hear them approaching the back straight. I'm a fan of the American V-8sound, but something about that 3 rotor...phew music to my ears!
lesper4 06-25-2007, 05:35 PM way to go speed source!!!
Groundrush 06-25-2007, 07:45 PM That was the question of the day. I just remember it was 3rd or 4th full course yellow and everyone was going in for a pit stop. Yeah, unfortunately there wasn't any info on exactly what happened to the 69 car. There were about 9 of us from Columbus sitting right at the end of the back stretch of the Esses. The 69 car pitted, changed drivers, and then on his first two consecutive runs RIGHT IN FRONT OF US, spun out in the first S turn. He didn't appear to be going particularly fast, didn't appear to be on a bad line, and he wasn't bumped. On the first spin, he lost some chunks of rubber on the track. I'm guessing that perhaps he had some body damage that was rubbing a wheel or had a broken suspension component? He recovered from the spin, and on the next lap, lost it again in the exact same spot. He never came around again that I saw. I watched the race again when I got home to see if there was any indication as to what happened, but I didn't hear anything.
And Ra is right...LONG before we could actually see the RX-8s, you could HEAR them. It was amazing...
By the way, SPEED Channel is replaying it again Tuesday morning (tomorrow) at 3am! Set your DVRs!!! Congrats Speedsource! :) :) :)
RA-Eight 06-25-2007, 10:18 PM Thanks for the heads up Brian. Setting the DVR now!

SouthFL 06-25-2007, 10:25 PM I heard those two 3-rotor Speedsource cars earlier this year at Daytona. Indeed, an interesting sounding powerplant- sharp contrast to the baritone lsx powered Pontiacs.
Razz1 06-26-2007, 12:12 AM That was an awesome race.
Huhwha 06-26-2007, 07:52 AM Congrats to Speedsource! It was great fun sitting at the end of the backstretch listening to those 3-rotors scream down to us!
Good stuff!
rotary crazy 06-26-2007, 08:08 AM one thing its clear they have to do something to the #69 operation, the car is doing good in almost every race then it drops like a rock, one minute you are looking at it in 4th the next they are in 20th
Indy_8 06-26-2007, 08:32 AM I'd also like to know what happened to the 69 car. They really fell off the map....
Assentato pitted for the driver change. Longhi got in and drove maybe one or two laps and unfortunately had an offroad excursion. He brought the car in and the crew briefly worked under the front. They quickly buttoned it up and rolled it off to the paddock. They dispersed oil-dry in the pitlane and swept it up. After the race I talked to a mechanic and he said it was a pinhole in the radiator (don't know if he meant coolant or oil cooler - didn't matter - the day was over for that car). My vantage point for the race was just above and behind the SpeedSource pit.
rotary crazy 06-26-2007, 08:46 AM thats a freaking shame, the car was running great!
those guys need some luck

Nothing sounds like this car ripping RPM'S. I hope they get it together for the balance of the schedule. They still have a chance.
rotary crazy 07-14-2007, 09:47 AM Iowa pics, the team is really looking strong in practice, lets all wish them good luck!
Razz1 07-14-2007, 04:01 PM Trmblay gets hit by Vette.
They repair the bent tie rod and are back in the race.
unreal89 07-14-2007, 04:04 PM I just found this race on speed and noticed there was an rx8 getting fixed. Just curious if its doing any good against the others.
ryan031581 07-14-2007, 04:15 PM Looked there for a second that Paul Edwards was going to fall back, but it looks like they are back on track.
If your not familiar with this series, here is a link to the point standings. Notice Sylvian Tremblay in 4th place. That is the driver of the rx8.
Tough day for those guys.

Razz1 07-14-2007, 07:06 PM Ja your right just wanted to see if anyone was paying attention.
They got more point for the championship. Yea!
rotary crazy 07-16-2007, 08:27 AM Bad luck!, its going to make the run for the chanpionship much harder

Second place in Koni ST series at MID OHIO
Great job guys you make the rotary community proud!!!!
These guys have a had a rough time with accidents and spin outs. It wil take a miracle for them to come out on top now. This car is definitely better suited for the bigger tracks with longer straightaways. Great top end power but lacking lower end torque coming out of tight corners. Their attribute of low weight has helped them tremendously. I am still healing from my broken ankle and will miss Chin this weekend at Homestead. This is the second time i have missed track time, always due to some BS. How are things in the DR? I am heading for Antigua, Guatemala the end of the month for the Apparel Summit of the Americas and expect several people from the DR to attend.
rotary crazy 07-18-2007, 09:21 AM I think the problem with small tight tracks is the tires, they have smaller tires than the rest of the field, at least thats one of the problems
Things here are fine, a lot of political stuff going on as allways but generally is fine, the apparel busines is not doing great here, the aparrel and clothes free zones are in deep trouble, but it is more a polytical problem than anything else, the rest of the economy is doing OK, this goberment is known for economic stability an growth

I know Hanes closed down some factories there but are opening others in the DR. I have setup several of my customers with factories and mosr recently a hugh government and private sector manufacturer is setting up a factory in one of the Free Zones. I have fought to keep manufacturing in our region that uses U.S. raw materials and keep the work out of China. I appeal to the government to support our democratic neighbors working as it creates bad will to see the U.S. giving so much to a communist nation that cannot be trusted.
rotary crazy 07-18-2007, 10:59 AM your efforts are welcome we need all the help we can get, it is hard to see so many people out of work, close to 75,000 people in my town Santiago wich is a small town and this jobs really hurd the economy here, its good news to hear that there are going to be some new plants opening here, again thanks for the help
Dont get me started on china, I really think its a time bomb that will eventually bite all of us in the rear

Let me know if you are in Miami and have a chance to visit our firm. We opened a new building in Flagler Station (previously Gran Park). New park, few buildings ,great curvey roads. We work with almost every manufacturer except Levi's. I did get word today that VF Jeanswear(Wrangler) is moving woven production to Haiti with new provisions for wovens. This work was being done in Mexico and China. You are very right, China is a threat to our region in many ways.
rotary crazy 07-18-2007, 11:25 AM I will be in miami in september but only for a few minutes on my way to sevenstock , but I have a long overdue visit to the guys at pettit racing and speedsource, so I will let you know when will be in town, you never know we may end up helping each other out :)
I do have some free zone busineses but in the packeging and cigar area, my very close friend was one of the main owners of one of the plants that close down Interamericana, they made goods for hanes and levi's
rough day today at Barber... #70 finished 5th, Edwards 4th, and Werner 23rd. Sylvain is 21 points back in the championship with two rounds left.

Both times they were one place higher going into the last turn on the last lap... The first race (ST) a Z4 punked the rear quarter panel to get the Speedsource car loose in the last turn... just enough to pass him.
Great races all day for every place other than 1st, which was a run-away in both races.
rotary crazy 07-22-2007, 10:04 AM really hard race, tremblay look like he was ready to faint in the interview, just completly exhausted
lesper4 07-22-2007, 01:00 PM race was awesome but that pontaic was just perfect all day. too bad the 70 was all used up by the end of the race. trembley did a great job though.

Thanks for remembering the little brother SpeedSource ST effort...
With the busy schedule I hadn't been able to even lurk here lately, bt got an email reminder and decided to drop in.
BTW, the BMW received a 30 second penalty for unnecessary contact and that dropped them back to fourth. The #69 SpeedSource Koni Challenge car finished 3rd officially. Still very much in contention for driver and team championships in ST, only 18 points out of first with three races remaining. Fingers crossed.
rotary crazy 08-01-2007, 07:59 AM chkrd_flag are you the same one thaqt post on the speed forum?
Im really impress with what you guys are doing in ST, even with a rules package that does not help the RX-8 your up there in the championship, under amazing odds
Congrats!!! And good luck!!!
chkrd_flag 08-01-2007, 10:14 AM Yep.. I'm the same chkrd_flag form the SpeedTV boards ;)
Thanks... it's been an interesting season for us, for sure. As far as the rules, I think Grand-Am's doing a pretty good job of balancing the field. The one thing that is great about our little car is that it seems to get better the further into the fuel run, where many others (especially the FWD cars) get slower. Some tracks are also really good for the RX-8 Mid-Ohio and Barber are both good for us and I expect us to be really, really good at Trois-Rivieres. The team has had good results in ST at Miller and VIR also, so I'm pretty optimistic about the remainder of the schedule.
As far as where we're at in the championship, it's entirely due to the team. There's no more professional a team in Grand-Am than SpeedSource when it comes to building, preparing and supporting the team's cars. Mazda and the RX-8are well represented by the team, and I'm just lucky enough to be a part of that.
rotary crazy 08-01-2007, 10:38 AM I agree with you 100%, the guys at speedsource do an amazing job, they are without a doubt one of the most professional bunch of people in GRAN AM right now including the drivers :)
Have you heard anything about Patrick Demsey signing with mazda? if this rumor is true my wife its going to be really happy
And welcome to the site :)
rotary crazy 08-03-2007, 08:37 PM 9th in montreal, there goes the championship, sorry guys, better luck next year
zoom44 08-03-2007, 11:34 PM s'okay - really great season and more to look forward to!
rotary crazy 08-04-2007, 12:21 AM An amazing season I think the team deserves a big congrats, 3 wins ,several podiums, the car was allways a front runner, etc.
Im sure next year we are going to kick some serious butt
alnielsen 08-04-2007, 01:31 AM You know you have a good team when every other one complains about your success on camera.
Yes, the RX8 was lighter. But, the other teams had more horsepower and that was never brought up.
rotary crazy 08-04-2007, 09:25 AM and the others had wider tires, wich look like the rx-8's weaknes
