View Full Version : Goo Goo ! My Turn to have Flashing CEL!
nycgps 06-24-2007, 08:41 PM Happened last night, Floor it CEL Flashed ....
Well, Its first time it ever happened.
Then this morning, I tried to find out how to make it *happen*
So
Floor it
Upshift
Let the pedal go
floor it again
Flash
if I just floor it and upshift regularly, no flashing CEL.
Well I know misfire happens even on new motors. I will check my plugs/coils/wires tomorrow to see if anything *loose*. Any other ideas about what to look for ?
(besides the ones found in the shop manual, cuz Im looking at it right now)
Oh forgot to mention, I dont have the exact code yet, dont have time to pull my old laptop out. Will do tomorrow.
tdiddy 06-24-2007, 09:18 PM are you at high rpms when this happens?
nycgps 06-24-2007, 09:19 PM Yes sir, About 7K+ RPM
When the Aux port connects :|
swoope 06-24-2007, 09:23 PM plug wires come to mind first...
beers
nycgps 06-24-2007, 09:24 PM Thats the first thing I will check tomorrow.
Any other ideas tho ? I can floor it regularly, the car pulls hard. its just that if I jerk it before flooring it + shifting, Flashing CEL happens.
tdiddy 06-24-2007, 09:39 PM It's most likely a random misfire. Could be the plugs, plug wires, or coils.
brillo 06-24-2007, 11:19 PM coils or plugs me thinks
nycgps 06-25-2007, 06:40 AM Grr, I just changed my coils couple thousand miles ago ....
I will try to pull the code out today and see which one is throwing misfire ... then I will swap the coils back with the old one and test again.
nycgps 06-29-2007, 11:23 PM Finally got my Pocket Scanner, 52 bux shipped to my home. (Cuz scanlyser doesnt work with my 64 bit windows laptop, oh well)
P0301 Front rotor misfire detected Flash/ON 1 or 2 Misfire
Story follow up :
I took the plugs out and look at it, it looks fine to me. re-tighten it back to spec. reinstall everything. didnt test Coils cuz I dont have a MultiMeter. but its only couple K miles old I think they're ok.
then I was thinking, hmm, might have something to do with gas ? The tank I had was BP Ultimate (93)
I had 1/2 tank left, but I went to Sunoco(first time for my 8), top it off. push it as hard as I can, no flashing CEL ?!
then I was like, hmm, no way. 2 days later, I was almost empty(yep, I drive alot), so I went to Shell this time. Fill it up, again no flashing CEL.
HMMmmmmmm .... tried BP again (same station). Yep, Flashing CEL.
So, my car doesnt llike BP anymore? Damn, that was my favorite station !
No more BP for me, case closed.

not likely,,
but a very odd observation...
wow, i cant wait to hear the play on this... plug wires tight?????
btw, look at the tips, and i mean the ones that go in the wires.

Wait a couple of tanks and repeat this one more time please. This would be really strange if this was the actual case.

I know it sounds very unlikely.
I have a Repair manual for my father's mini van, it has a spark plug wear level guide in the back of the book, and I use that as a guide line. I compared the pictures to my plug, my plug shows just perfectly fine.
and I checked the tips on the plug, yeah the side that go in the wires. It looks fine, no corrosion or anything.
checked the plug wires, it still has that white powdery thing inside, and its very clean, so I guess thats good also.
like I said I dont have a multimeter to test the coils, but they should be fine, right ?(only couple K miles old !)

Im still using my 2nd tank right now (Shell), about 1/4 tank left, I'll just wait 2 more tanks before heading back to the same BP station.
Its probably just random misfire, maybe I should reset my Eccentric Shaft profile first before heading back to the same BP station ?
TeamRX8 07-01-2007, 12:27 PM should have reset the ESP first, everything else is a wild ass assumption/conclusion
nycgps 07-01-2007, 03:00 PM I reset it last night.
The test will last 10 tanks. See if it happens again
