I was reading the article above about how police have started to crush vehicles involved in street racing and one of the guys at the end of the article talks about how if he invested the money from fines into track fees, he could have raced about 250 legally in southern california. Does anyone know of any tracks in southern california where i can drive my car the way it was meant to be driven without getting arrested or having my car crushed?

Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego has a 1/8th drag strip every Friday night.

www.speedventures.com period. bottom line, these guys are professionals, they will make sure u have a good time, and they will take care of u. everyone that runs with them out there is friendly and helpful to newbs. they run at all the best tracks our here in southern cali and they know what their doing. http://www.redlinetrackevents.com/ is another good group to run with. reason i'm linking organizers and not the actual tracks is because it makes all the difference. u can go to a good track with a shitty organization and have a horrible day. if u shop around, u can find a cheaper groups to run with at same tracks that the groups i mentioned above, but they cut cost at certain areas that will increase ur risk of accidents or take away fun time out on track. dont take my word for it, ask around on forums from other sports car models. dont end up running at tracks with a group that over booked and let a bunch of highschool punks out on track cuz it was cheaper so they could make more money. or even worse, groups that dont hire flaggers to regulate idiots on track.

everything mentioned above is about road courses by the way, not drag strips. u did say how ur car was meant to be driven. rx8 is not a drag car, its a track car. good luck, if u do take my advise, then i hope to be seeing u in the future out there friend.

There is a "Mazda" track in Monterey, CA; and a track near Buttonwillow off of Hwy 5, the Car club from LA sometimes has Rallys at Buttonwillow

Thanks for the info, but most of the places that these events are held at are more than 100 miles away from me. I remember seeing some website that said there was a driving school at el toro airforce base in irvine, ca. This base has been closed for years and i believe i read somewhere once that there are track meets held here. Anyone have any info on this?

Palmdale for the 1/4 mile, but they are closing soon

LACR is in talks with the City of Palmdale to relocate, so if all goes well we may see a brand new drag strip in Palmdale in the coming months.
