:lol2: <- is my exact expression when this guy pulled off.

Saturday me and my fiance (I just proposed to her last week :) ) were coming to a stop light when I saw the EXOTIC CAR KILLER. I pulled up more to get a better look and man was it gorgeous. Well the light turned green and I pulled up more to get a better look, but didn't. Well at least until 2 miles down the road at the next stop light. Did you know the Z06 can dissappear? I never knew a car could perform magic tricks. Cause that's what it did.

IT FREAKIN DISSAPPEARED!!!!! Even man fiance, who's really not into cars, was like "... oh my. it's not here anymore".

I think he thougt I was trying to race him but it seems to me he would have known I wasn't trying to. I mean come on, he looked at my car and saw it's just an 8. Geez, what is it with these ultra quick cars challenging my 8? Last time it was Ferrari F430!!!

As with many other Vette owners...he was making up for other 'something else' by showing how BIG and BAD his motor is.

I actually appreciate it sometimes when people with cars like that accelerate from a stoplight like that. A guy in the office building next to the one I work in has a 360 Spyder. I was behind it one day coming back from lunch, and when we rounded the turn onto the street that leads up to our office complex, he punched it. I had my windows down and I just watched in awe as he accelerated up the street with such a wonderful sound bouncing off the retaining walls on the street. By the time I got to the parking lot, he was getting out of his car, and we gave each other the universal "what's up" head nod...

Wish I could of been there.

Your 3,000th post is much, much more exciting than this thread. Good job.

I smoke Z06's often on my city streets.

From time to time an owner in a new Viper also tempts me, but I don't want to go getting a bunch of people in my town after me for making them look silly or anything.

A lot of people think the 8 is as quick as a single-turbo FD.

Yes those new Vettes are pretty cool. and for 70,000 dollars it better do nicer tricks than that.

Had one chase me around the road course last year in my 914. it took him 5 laps to actually pass me.
he would gain 500 yards on me down the straight and I would gain 400 back in the twisties.
When he finally went by I was like " Holy cow" :Eyecrazy: that is fast. Sorta like the disappearing thing described. I was at about 115 and he past me like I was standing still. Later he said he went by at better than 140. :uhh:

Yeah, On the Real, there is really no comparison between a Rx-8 and a Z 06 Vette performance, styling or value as we all know. With one exception, the RX-8 is more practical. The rear seats saved the day again.

Ever see a Lingenfelter C6 Twin Turbo take off from a dead stop?

The sound is enough to actually, and I mean ACTUALLY leave you breathless. The sound plus the visual of the car absolutely just being fucking down the road in 5 seconds is as close to sex as you can get when it comes to cars.

ya, I have always loved vettes, had an 84 before I got into the RX-7s. Only reason I stopped playing with vettes was they are too expensive when you are in HS and College, and the 7's can be just as much fun. :p

The first car I ever built was a 500hp 1991 vette with my dad, drool.

I concur.

I hate seeing a good sports car go to waste cuz some tool just wants it as a "status symbol" . . . .

Watch how fast it pulls away once we hit the long straight...exiting that corner I'm already doing 100+

Acceleration...yeah vette's got it...

i passed a c5 corvette on a straight, i had been riding his bumper for about 5 turns and exited a lot faster than he did.

he could have floored it and pulled in front of me, but then he would have had no room to stop. :P

I feel the same way. Vette owners never drive their cars they just cruise, it really pisses me off when I see crap like that. Buy it, drive it like you stole it. That's my motto.

Oh I dunno, I'm sure he was probably not confident in his car yet...those things in the right hands can handle and stop pretty damn well...you simply have to know how to use it right...

The right tools in the hands of newbs is about as good as giving them a paperweight if they dont know how to use it...

twinkie, thats some nice driving man. where did you do that kind of racing, looks fun to me.

Technically its not a "race"...its called an HPDE (High Performance Driving Event) or a DE (Drivers Education) thing. Not timed and supposed to be for advancement of your skills as a driver. Technically...

My driving was meh...it was ok in my own opinion...I was having trouble holding my line when something gets in my way...I kept poaching corners simply because I kept wanting to hit it right and misjudged my turn-in.

Also I was having a syncro issue so coming off that long straight and dropping from 4th to 2nd while trying to revmatch whilst braking and going into that turn was consistently screwing me up.

All in all I think I did pretty well but I was still pretty conservative and trying to get my technique down before becoming more aggressive and pushing it. Also I noticed that my rear was a little twitchy which I blamed on the RB sways...turned out that I was running the wrong tire pressure...man I felt like an idiot...

I've got lots of video of cars I've past along the way...I am hesitant to say that I had a better car or I was a better driver...I would be more inclined to say that the RX is simply much easier to go fast around a track in. I was alot more confident in its abilities and amazed at how well it behaved. Once I get moved up to the higher run groups with more experienced drivers I am sure that will change.

Maybe I'll get a Vette in 2013 for the 60th anniversary, unless Mazda takes a huge leap forward in hp. I still love the 8, but you can't deny what an awesome car the Vette is.

RX-8s look fast, so that is why people want to race them.

The key to the RX-8 is its got decent sized back seats for a sports car and does well on the turns.

Bottom line, we need an extra 100HP to be taken seriously on any straights.

However even with the present RX-8 "max kit" Mazsport turbo putting down 400rwhp, we can't mess with a C6 Z06 unless there are a lot of turns. Actually, there are few cars in existence that could F*** with C6 Z06's 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds

If you only want 2 seats, a shit load of HP for the straights, and good HP to dollar ration than the C6 Z06 is well worth the look.

I therefore submit the following clip...

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6914148819260604622

03 Cobra if I remember correctly...clear example of the exit speed argument...

I came around to the end of the pack to find a spec miata had dropped into the run group to test out his setup...up to this point I've wanted a shot at chasing one down and finally got an opportunity...did I mention that those things are fast in teh twisties? Add a good driver and wow...I was amazed how hard those little bastards are to catch...

Long story short...we eventually hit traffic in the form of a cobra...after we both pitched a tent inside the dude's trunk he decided to let the spec miata pass...I on the other hand was not allowed to pass...I think it was mainly due to the fact that the session only had a lap left before the checker and we were so close to the long straight he thought he could outrun me...

Exiting into the long straight I carried alot more speed...even at WOT the cobra simply didnt really run away...If I had 100 extra horses I would have easily forced a pass on the straight, but due to our lack of juice I had to content myself with pushing so hard into the guy's trunk as to traumatize him...hopefully next time he remembers to give me the pass...

100 extra ponies...yep...we needs it...

You do know that the Z-06 can handle right? The Z-06 has the highway banzai runs, twisties,0-60, and 1/4 mile runs covered. Thats why its the best bang for your buck semi exotic car that can shame many exotic cars on this planet. If its not a hyper car or super car, the Z-06 has it beat.

Well said. I got more track experience on bikes than cars, and noticed that most guys gravitate towards the latest speed weapon without considering the "accessibility" of the increased performance. It took me a while to get my literbike down to my times on a 600cc bike, and an even longer time to enjoy it. A faster bike/car doesn't always equate to more fun - but feeling like you're in total control usually does.

No kidding! My father has a new C6 and I swear, he probably drives a riding mower faster than he drives his vette...I keep telling him we need to switch cars for a day or two so I can show the vette some love.
