I am picking up my Titamium Grey RX8 GT Thursday. Decided on the 8 over the 350z. The dealer wants to charge me $99 for paint sealent and $175 for undercoat. Do I tell them to put these on before Thursday or are they dealer gimicks?

I doubt that you need them. Which dealer?

Hey man first off...CONGRADULATIONS! You've got a sexy car. Trust me! Everyone will be turning heads. Awesome color!
My dealer didn't try and sell me anything other than the car itself. If you want that paint sealent that go for it, other wise just take the car and have fun!

This dealer is located in NE PA. Does the car already have an undercoat?

I'd like to know this to. Is there any other threads on this?

I would urge you to NOT get paint sealant or undercoat. They are useless dealer add-ons designed to do one thing: separate you from more of your money. You can read about it in the annual auto issue of Consumer Reports. And my brother is a Sales Manager at a dealership - he says the same thing.

These are complete gimmicks- you don't want them. Go look at www.carbuyingtips.com (http://www.carbuyingtips.com)

Agreed. These are gimmicks sold by the dealer to unsuspecting customers. Paint sealant? It's called a CLEAR COAT, and your car got one in the factory. Need to seal it further? Buy a bottle of wax and do it yourself. Tell your dealer "no thanks." If he insists that the car has alreday received these "treatments," refuse to pay for them and walk away from the deal.

The paint sealant isn't much money but isn't detrimental; the undercoating can actually be harmful to the car and void your corrosion warranty. I would definitely avoid that!!
