the Infiniti G35, according to someone on the freshalloy forum.
I hear it's an award that can be bought (by advertising) but I think the G35 was a good choice for this year anyway.

Car and Driver and Road and Track are the only two good American car mags.

Well, considering they picked the Lincoln LS, the PT Cruiser, and the Thunderbird as COTY the past 3 years, it wouldn't surprise me if they pick the G35, which is a solid pick, but I don't really understand how it is as groundbreaking as any other car that desires to be EXACTLY the same as the 3 series.
Don't get me wrong, the LS, PT, and T-Bird are fine cars, and actually cars I'd maybe consider owning, but none of the 3 are truly segment busting vehicles, except maybe the PT Cruiser. But the T bird? It uses LS mechanicals and it is a retro design. NOTHING is groundbreaking on it. Yes, it is fun, but that's it.
Remember they picked some beasts as COTY in the past. For some reason some old Chevy Vegas or Citations come to mind....
IMHO, MT is a garbage mag, and I place little value on their evaluations and awards. While R&T, C&D and Automobile aren't immune, I place more value in C&D's 10Best and Automobile All Stars than MT's COTY. 10Best is good, but they do seem to have a heavy love for incumbents on the list. All Stars seem to be the most objective, though they do LOVE the Miata. I agree 100% the Miata deserves to be an 11 time winner, as I consider it to be the best roadster that exists. Some people might see it as an obsession with the Miata, but maybe Automobile is just able to see past the badges to the heart of the car?? With that said, the list still changes quite a bit year to year, and they definitely don't have a problem picking a different car if it is truly better than the previous.
Edmunds editors choice and readers choice, along with Automobiles All-Stars and Readers All-Stars are the ones I'd consider most seriously.

Only if Car and Driver and Road and Track dub it with the same title.
Even if the RX-8 makes the C&D Best 10 list, then I'll be happy. I think it might too, if the car is as perfect as I hope it will be.

I don't take any of the car magazine awards too seriously, and I detest the previous MT winners such as the PT Cruiser and Thunderbird. This month's MotorTrend voted the Volvo XC90 as SUV of the year even though the vehicle is not on sale yet (but they gave a good argument in it's favour - mostly based on safety).

I actually really like the XC90 though... gorgeous SUV with a car-like ride and tons of safety features to boot! But if I were in the market for such a car, I'd probably go with an Audi Avant of some sort, like an A4 avant or the Allroad :)
But Volvo is really really nice! But I agree, that PT Cruiser and TBird award was just sick... those cars are majorly gay :(

If you want a gorgeous (and safe) SUV you should see the VW Toureg (way better than it's sister vehicle the Porsche Cayenne, especially the interior). WOW! If I could afford it (and if it had enough space for the dogs behind the second row of seats) I would trade in the MDX in a heartbeat. It wasn't considered for the award as it doesn't go on sale until next year.

I would say "Automobile" is the best American magazine.....
...just because they picked my car for "Automobile Of The Year" last year!
:D

Nah, Autoweek is. New model reviews, road tests, and racing news in my mailbox every Friday. :)

It's only because there was no production RX-8 available to be considered. Otherwise, what does Motor Trend know??
