I am getting ready to remove my kit if you are interested. It is from verticaldoors.com and it is a direct bolt on. No welding to your car or the kit.

This website shows the different manufactures http://www.vertical-door-kits.com/

i've had mine on for about a year and a half. they are bolt on, and i have not had a problem with them. if you get welds you can never go back without messing up the car. if you get them go bolt on. and i would not go with the guys i used, with the amount of money i spent they would not even wash my car and i asked too.

Mazdamaniac has the GT Factory kit and it is very stable and nice. No side-to-side play at all. It was convincing enough to have me order my own. Don't get a cheap ebay knock-off

And GT Factory door kit has a lifetime warranty too

all different vendors have them for a wide range of prices. I just found one on sale for $1000. Best qualitly kit out there.

Just Froogle it. You can't too particular because the range is $1400-$800. I would say stay away from bottom-end one because they can be knock-offs and without the qualitly and/or warranty.

But the GT kit is super qualitly- dual gas struts to lift the door, and CNC chromoly steel hinges. Lifetime warranty speaks volumes.

I have the Vertical Doors kit as well. I got mine done at a local shop for $2500 installed. Couldn't be more happier.

Someone around here put on a set that actually allowed the doors to go full verticle for much better access, but I don't know what kind they were. It may be the guy in Greece.

that would be either GT factory or Vertical Doors Inc. Both do 90 degrees. When the GT Factory door is up all the way it actually touches the hood but a good margin when the hood is propped

My 8 was used for prototyping the new bolt-on hinge from GT Factory. Just as stable as the weld-on hinge but without all the work. Its a pretty straightforward install and the kit retails for $1600.

If you want to order it:
go to www.gtfactory.jp
and call them about the rx-8 bolt on hinge.

Yeah I got the weld-on kit. Jeff's (Mazdamanic) car was the prototype for the weld kit.

I'm also installing new Koni's and Sprint springs so I'll post up pics when it's all done

there is a place in Downey that did mine. and then of course i have the convenience of just going to the dealership everytime there is a glitch as a result. which unfortunately is often...

I got this weld on kit for my car
http://sector29.com/PRODUCT_PAGES/28/28-2096-p2096.html
I like this kit because it pops out and then goes up. That's the difference between the scissor slide doors and other kits.
I'm in the military and there is a Master Sgt that works at an auto body shop in town and he is installing them for $750-$800
He does good work. I saw the work he did on another car with a bolt on version.

if you get a kit for under a grand
it will cause nothing but trouble.
unless you like having your doors
drop below the door well..

Not to put a damper on any of this, and perhaps it's not of any importance to someone into this type of mod (I can't say I care for them myself), but does anyone worry at all about the safety effects of changing out a significant component to your door system?

I've been in automotive engineering for about 15 years now and I can tell you the expense of designing and testing a hinge, latch, striker, inside, and outside handle is quite complex and expensive. FMVSS requirements are quite detailed when it comes to this stuff in an effort to prevent personal injury in a serious accident. Everything has to work to keep that door closed in side impact and rollover incidents. 30g calculations have to be conducted and tested to make sure the inertia of an impact won't permit a door handle to release, hinges and latches go through routine destructive strength testing, etc.

Just wondering if anyone worries whether any of these aftermarket companies test their product to destruction (very doubtful as the expense would eliminate any possible profit margin), since they are completely changing the characteristic of the pivot point of the door.

It's good to know that there are good lambo door kits out there for the 8.

The one kit i saw in person looked great from afar, but had pretty lousy fitment, and the door would not close properly unless you got it in exactly the right spot.
