Peter Valdes-Dapena, CNN/Money Staff Writer reported:
Segway LLC has recalled all 6,000 of its human transporters sold to date because of a falling hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Friday.
:p LMAO! Who would have figured? Full story can be found on CNN (http://money.cnn.com/2003/09/26/pf/autos/segway_recall/index.htm?cnn=yes).

This broke late thursday, it's old news by now.
It has to do with low batteries and instability of the seggy.
Newer models are fitted with warning devices.
I didn't read the cnn link, but did it mention the post office buying a bunch for testing? That's all we need, the postman riding a seggy around your neighborhood delivering mail!

Yeah, because god forbid for 6 grand you should get something that has been tested :P
COme on now, how many people think that the segway is a joke and people are buying them up just to make the original hype somewhat correct?

One of our Miata club members is confined to an electric wheelchair, and he bought a Segway for his wife so that they can go for "walks" together without her getting exhausted before his batteries!

Yeah, but in that case it's a toy really. A powered chair is more comfortable and much cheaper. The only thing Segways do different is you stand on it instead of sitting.
There are some legitimate uses for the device maybe in huge office type settings, but come on. Arent we fat enough as it is? If I didnt have to do the little walking I do now I would probably be as big as a house!
