I got nailed in the back while driving on the highway the other day. In turn I hit the car in front of me and he hit the car in front of him. Needless to say after only a couple of months of ownership I am very sad about my car.

Do you guys have any advice for me in terms of how to deal with the insurance? Am I write off worthy? Its an 04'.

I was told it was a write off if it had frame damage, or if the damage repair was half of what the vehicle was worth (or paid for depending on age).

Looks to be cosmetic? I could be wrong.

Sorry to see that...looks like its not worth to fix it. Even it can be fixed the aligment will not fix the after damaged problems.

Car is still worth $23-25k retail. Damage is what, $5-8k depending how many panels get replaced? The biggie is the trunk floor. If it is deformed, your frame is f-cked and the repair cost will skyrocket.

hmm, hard to say, i definitely dont think it will be a write off. Front damage is minor, get yourself a mazdaspeed front bumper.

The rear is the tricky part. I can't tell how much damage there is under there.

I feel your pain: I was rear ended last fall (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=101497) after owning the car two weeks; almost identical rear damage as you, but I was spared any front end damage. In the end it cost insurance >10k to fix the rear (rear quarters, trunk bumper, trunk floor, paint, everything). I wasn't happy with the job at the first place it went to (Atlantic), so shop carefully if you're getting it repaired.

This is the reason why I no longer use my car as a daily driver! There are way too many people out there drinking their stupid coffee, reading newspapers, and knitting (yes, Knitting! I couldn't believe it either!)

First off, you're lucky you only got minor whiplash. A few massage sessions and you should be alright.

The airbags didn't go off, so the car is still worthy of being saved. From what the pics tell, it's mostly cosmetic. New front/rear bumper, get those rear quarters tucked out, new trunk, and new hood.
The rear of the car worries me. If it was enough to crunch the rear quarters, I would think the rear undercarriage could have received some damage.

You have to be careful who they choose. Try to go to a body shop that's been authorized to work on your from the dealer. I know Avante Mazda uses BMC auto located in Concord.
Those guys do great work. I got my bumpers painted there, along with my interior trim.
They do great work fixing cars in far worse shape than your car. A couple of cosmetic improvements, and you'll be alright.

I would go with cleoent regarding the front bumper. Get the Mazdaspeed bumper and the Mazdaspeed wing with the new trunk! ;)

The accident is not your fault if what you say is true. If the guy behind you hit you as the initial impact. it's his fault because he should have keep his distance. and since you bare no responsibility of the accident. (aka you could not have prevent it). your insurance should cover it (depending on your insurance coverage). However, your warrenty is gone.

I think you are mixing up warranty work from insurance covered repair work. Of course Mazda will not pay to fix an accident, but that doesn't void the warranty, as you implied. Insurance will cover his repair (if it's not a declared a loss) and the warranty will remain, including the components that were repaired to spec.

Think about it... there are hundreds of car accidents everywhere, everyday. Do you think they're all losing their warranties because of "customer abuse"? :rolleyes:

WRONG...sorry, but pretty much same thing happend to a friend, you are at fault too, because you hit the person in front of you, you were also following too close?

Was any charges laid at time of accident or did you goto the Hospital right away?

you might be charged with following too close, or careless driving or whatevert along those line, be careful.

I was lucky enough to escape a 15 car pileup a few years back on the highway, but stopped as a witness (and to share my coffee and smokes :)).
One of the girls in the pileup later called me to tell me that the guy that started the chain reaction was deemed at fault for all 15 collisions. At their speed, after being rear ended each car lost control and was unable to move out of the way of the others ahead/beside. Pretty easy to do when you're going sideways and dont know what the hell is going on... :rolleyes:

Then, well your car....well you know.... it is sad to see this happen (It is REALLY SAD to see this happen to such a beautiful car like yours!) just remember, you are the driver, and you come first.

Besides... this could be that opportunity you've been waiting for, to get your RX8 repainted in some eye catching multi-pearl layered color, with flex paint additive. I'm not joking... there are some wild colors out there you can only find at specialty shops. Some of these colors you may like!

Be damn sure they won't miss seeing your car next time, and hopefully miss hitting your car while their at it.

I hope they don't do a full replacement... sports cars are like pets, this one has more history with you now.

Shit! I feel for ya! Just yesterday morning, the 403 came to a sudden halt and I had to split my lane (I was on my bike) 'cause the woman behind me almost didn't stop....every year this happens atleast 3 to 4 times! The level of inattentive drivers is worse than I've ever seen.

I'd say the car won't be a write off, but I'd make sure to get your insurers preferred supplier (most insurers guarantee your satisfaction on repairs if you use their approved shops) and get involved i.e. ask what will be new, will they use bondo, demand that you get to see the car before the repaint, etc.

As for fault, you may have partial fault. Check out the FSCO website for fault determiniation rules...

Oh, I'd also get the Mazdaspeed package, you can find it for 25% off. First I'd wait for an approved estimate then work against it, I'd guess you'd likely be similar in price vs. new bumpers and a repaint.

My roommate used my 8 for a week and "it got side-swiped in a parking lot", so I took it to a Mercedes auto body shop where they use lead to form and repair metal panels.. no polymers and bondo. It was a Japanese run shop, very high quality, very expensive. For a simple fender and bumper, 1300.
