View Full Version : What not to do on a test drive blizz81 09-26-2003, 10:23 AM http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=108727 Irish_in_a_RX8 09-26-2003, 10:45 AM ..could of been worse - had it been an RX8. :-) What a situation to be in !! I guess he had to buy the car after all... jtimbck2 09-26-2003, 01:55 PM Nah, he probably didn't have to buy it...that's why there's insurance. Of course, he will end up paying for that car in increased insurance premiums, especially being a kid. Either way, I bet it sucks to be him right now! eccles 09-26-2003, 02:06 PM ...the kid that drove the Evo through the window, or the salesdroid who let him start the car on the showroom floor? Hey, if it was an Audi he could claim "unintended accelleration"! :p PoLaK 09-26-2003, 02:16 PM Who's Dumber? the kid that drove the Evo through the window, or the salesdroid who let him start the car on the showroom floor The kid, I've test driven the 8, 3 times. Did I do anything stupid no! And I don't even have a license (I have a permit). There are some teens that just understand cars and their potential and their potential harm. Smoker 09-26-2003, 02:51 PM No no, I think what eccles is trying to say it that the Salesguy is just as much of an idiot as the kid for let someone start the car indoor. Starting the car in the ShowRoom is not only dangerous (as you can see here), it also pollutes the air inside the showroom with the exhaust gas. Not to mention everyone (other customers) in the showroom will be disturbed by the noise of the engine. I'm also certain whoever let the kid start up the car is going to just as much crap as the kid. Very likely he/she is fired already. Test driving is one thing, firing up an engine in the showroom is another. mikeb 09-26-2003, 03:03 PM omg that is crazy syntrix 09-26-2003, 08:10 PM Originally posted by jtimbck2 Nah, he probably didn't have to buy it...that's why there's insurance. Let's see: unregistered car private property potentially unsafe area to even start the car Not on the street, so not a ticket ;) I'd say that the dealer should just suck it up and hope the kid's parents don't sue the dealership for negligence. Pics are great! eccles 09-26-2003, 08:19 PM Originally posted by Smoker No no, I think what eccles is trying to say it that the Salesguy is just as much of an idiot as the kid for let someone start the car indoor. Prexactly! :) SuperRex 09-26-2003, 08:38 PM To the best of my knowledge of the "system," if the kid was under 18, the dealership cannot do anything and the dealership is completely liable since a person under 18 cannot have a legally binding contract under US law. Ike 09-26-2003, 09:58 PM Poor Evo :( why couldn't he have been in reverse and taken out those damn altezas instead. syntrix 09-26-2003, 10:45 PM Originally posted by IkeWRX Poor Evo :( why couldn't he have been in reverse and taken out those damn altezas instead. If the car is damaged and claimed...... once it's repaired are you still required to buy the factory oil changes in order to keep the evo's warranty? It should have taken out more evo's on the way! mikeb 09-26-2003, 11:13 PM ouch mdmaclean 09-26-2003, 11:34 PM That does not look very good... carnut 09-27-2003, 09:08 AM In most dealerships I've been in, the keys are in the cars. He could have started it and jumped forward before anyone knew what was going on, so I don't really think the salesperson is to blame. Want to bet they no longer leave the keys in the showroom cars? syntrix 09-27-2003, 09:31 AM Originally posted by bobm In most dealerships I've been in, the keys are in the cars. Where in the world are you? Every dealership in vegas has exactly 0 keys in the ignition. mikeb 09-27-2003, 07:36 PM I agree I have never seen keys sitting in a dealer car h0rde 09-29-2003, 12:08 AM i have also never seen a dealership with keys in the ignitions tagS60 09-29-2003, 12:42 PM I have been to a few dealerships where the key was either hanging in the ignition, or "hidden" over the visor or in the console. This is to save the saleman some time if you want a test drive. LightEmUp 09-30-2003, 04:05 PM Click here for more info, 8 miles on the car, car runs great!! Looks new... from certain angles.... http://forums.clubsi.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB4&Number=3026200&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1 mikeb 09-30-2003, 07:29 PM you cant sell cars on this forum Shocka 09-30-2003, 10:09 PM i would say BS... what dealer would allow someone to rev a car in the show room.. now the question is there skid marks in the show room if he apprently had the clutch down and did red line.. my theory a driver for the dealer was trying to move the car and just plain screwed up just my theory.. ive seen that for about 1 week now and i just dont think some kid did it. PoLaK 10-01-2003, 12:34 PM If he really just wanted to hear the engine why, did he buckle his seatbelt...... I'm assuming he did because no damage is done to the windshield by his head...... j1mb0x99 10-01-2003, 01:12 PM Maybe they were tryin to steal it. Like on Gone in 60 seconds. Remember that movie? They drove the car right through the window of the showroom. just a thought. -JiM mikeb 10-01-2003, 03:19 PM thats a great movie I love angelina jolie Shocka 10-01-2003, 05:22 PM You want Gone in 60 Secs Link To Article (http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/news/nation/6868462.htm) Man Steals $729K Ferrari After Test Drive ARDMORE, Pa. - Where do you hide a $729,000 Ferrari during rush hour? That's what police in the Philadelphia suburbs want to know, after a con man drove off with a red Ferrari F50 during a test drive. The Ferrari F50 - which can hit 60 mph in less than 4 seconds and tops out at 203 mph - hasn't been seen since. Police theorize it was hustled into a trailer and quickly shipped overseas for sale on the black market. The company made just 349 of the eye-popping Italian roadsters - described by one car-enthusiast Web site as "part Batmobile, part ballistic missile" - in 1995 to commemorate its 50th anniversary. It was designed to be a street version of a Formula One race car. The thief, a nattily dressed man who claimed he had flown up from Atlanta and had a limo waiting nearby, took the test drive Sept. 16 without producing a license. The ID, he said, was in the wallet he had left at the airport. The salesman from Algar Ferrari in Rosemont first took the prospective buyer for a spin, then let him get behind the wheel. During the test drive, the man - clean-cut and sporting a shirt, tie and apparent Rolex watch - pulled to the side of the road and asked the salesman to drive back to the dealership. When the salesman got out, the thief sped off. Police were summoned, but never spotted the vehicle. Now they're looking for the con man, described as a 6-foot, slender white male with reddish-brown hair and glasses. Lower Merion detectives believe he had help. "This took a lot of planning," said Det. Charles J. Craig, the lead investigator. Police are also exploring whether the case is tied to similar Ferrari thefts in North Carolina and Long Island, N.Y. mikeb 10-01-2003, 08:08 PM thats crazy shocka Shocka 10-01-2003, 10:22 PM Originally posted by mikeb thats crazy shocka im tryna find info on the other Stolen Ferraris .. especially the one from Long Island since that dealer is 10 mins from my house |
