Question What's the best deal you've found on Insurance?

With the delivery window getting closer and closer, it's time to start getting insurance quotes. Anyone like to give indications of quotes they've had? - make sure you say whether it was Lo of Hi Power version of RX8.

26 years old, Rg postcode, 5 years no claims bonus, the best deal I have found for my Hi powered 8 is £680.00 from direct Line compaird to £1,200 what my current insurer ADMIRAL quoted me. If I were you try Direct Line if you have not already.

This may not be the best place to look for a good deal - all insurers are different and look for different things in a risk. However, I've just been stunned by Elephant.co.uk -

Hi power, SS0 post code, Garaged, £250 xs and full NCB......

.....£509.25

I think I might be moving despite the appaling TV ads!

Here's a thought, most insurers these days use preffered repair shops.

These are usually fairly competent outfits that are reasonably cheap and offer a discount to the insurer due to an exclusive repair deal.

My question though is this, would you want one of these garages working on your rotary engine! (I know I wouldn't).

Quite a few insurers now insist you use their authorised repair centres for accident work.

I for one will be checking my insurance covers repair work at a garage of my choice, primarily a rotary specialist or secondly a competent Mazda garage (and I'm quite happy with the mechanics in mine).

Who would you trust with your new rotary engine, carbon fiber driveshaft, aluminium hood and doors, etc..

Very good point Mr Grey and presumably only Mazda have this know-how. Also, make sure that hire car is included in quite otherwise out of pocket expenses could be large, especailly as the Japanese have a reputation of not storing spare parts (idle cash) and instead work in a supply as needed basis.

Let me clarify something for you.

I am presently with Elephant. I had a bloke (uninsured) scratch the drivers door.

Elephant wanted to make me use their repairer - but they were not audi approved. I used my own - as long as you get at least 2 quotes you can use whom ever you choose. They cannot leaglly make you use their places - however much they may imply you have to.

In addition they tried to charge me for the temporary cover note with my repairer - saying that they wouldnt have charged for theirs. After some argument I pointed out that the only reason I wasnt using one of theirs was because they hadnt been able to provide an audi approved one, which would have invalidated my bodywork warranty. They gave in.

They have indicated that my insurance will drop 2-300 from the TT, which is 1500 (5 years NCB, IAM licence, protected). west london.

Thanks for the info Edo.

Probably the best thing to do then is to clarify all this with your insurer before you take out cover.

Drive, WA (Warrington) postcode, protected (NCB), Leagal cover, 250 quid excess, 35, 3 points (SP30) 2 years ago, 5 years NCB, other half, 40, one minor claim 1 year ago, 12 years NCB. 564 quid - Egg.

esure - 44 yr old, no claims for 10+ years, £100 excess, protected no claims, legal protection

£450 :D

Which is actually up from the last quote I got from their online system about a month ago. That one was for a "too good to be true" £390.

Its pointless giving actual amounts as it will vary so much depending on age, location, occupation, and previous excesses of the right foot, but I've found Direct Line to be the cheapest (only £70 more tha my MX3 V6 with them). Esure was £30 more, and every other quote I got was £100 to £200 more.

Cheers

I got them to list it acouple of weeks ago. I had an email within a hour saying it was on the system. Perhaps we should do the same for any others that are still not listing it. Althougth thier system was unable to get a qoute from directline which is my best so far of £400. Their best was £414

Just checked on Tesco's website,

Strangely Hi-power version has 232 on the power rating
and Lo-power version has 192.

What do Tesco know that we don't!?

Couldn't get any further on the quote though, website crashed!:D

been looking into bell direct a little more, using confused.com they already had all my contact details in place, when you run thought the quote you can download a PDF copy of their policy book (30 pages) so I'll read that tomorrow and check that it all makes sense.

I went through the quote details and it seems to have correctly picked up all my details and policy requirements, also states that they'll keep the quotation on record (with a simple password rather than reference number) until the end of November.

Surely I'll have my car by then.

Quotation of £710 is less than my current MX-6 and half some of the other quotes I've received.

Anyone thinking of using DirectLine should try Tesco insurance first (www.tesco.com). They are both part of the RBS group and use the same database and systems yet Tesco is generally cheaper and includes a discount for buying online.

To get this in context I have

5+ years NCB, offroad, protected and am 37 yrs old.

Last year i paid £600 while living in Harrogate. This year, same car, quote was £780!!! (I now live in Leeds so location makes a big difference)

Best quote on rx8 so far was from esure for £701, but I haven't tried that many insurers yet.Hope to get it to £650 or less somehow.

Im currently with Admiral, who wanted nearly 700 quid to insure me to drive my IS200 (renewal is October) (6 years NC - when i asked about protecting it they then mentioned it would be nearer 800 quid)

For the Rx8 they wanted something like 700 quid with unprotected NCB.

Phoned esure, got my Lexus insured for 500 quid with protected NCB and all other options max'd out.

Esure said they wont insure people in an RX8 as a general rule but they also said they wouldn't turn away existing customers. (i said that if i was to change to esure for the next 2 months then change to the rx8 i didnt particularly want to have to leave again)
They said it would be easy for me to "change" cars as i would be an existing customer.

Esure (at todays prices) will insure me to drive the rx8 for close to 600 quid. (with all the same max'd options and protected NCB)
