View Full Version : (I'm getting a) NEW rotary engine spyerz 05-17-2007, 04:05 PM i have 04 RX-8 and had about 41k on it and engine gave up so i am getting new engine for free i am happy brand new engine. any suggestion about how not to screw up the new engine 987HYS 05-17-2007, 04:46 PM Make sure you break it in for the first 1,000 miles, and keep the rpm's low during that break-in period. get an oil change around that same time once you have broken it in. nbymissy 05-17-2007, 08:11 PM I'm getting a new one too! I'm at around 36,000 miles. They put me in a Mazda 3 as a rental until they get my new one in - that thing is a POS! j_tso 05-22-2007, 06:37 AM How did the engine give up? Lost compression? I thought the Renesis design meant the apex seals were not stressed as much. 2tone 05-22-2007, 01:04 PM yeah, can you guys explain what happened to your engines?? my lease is up in 5 months and i was convinced on a buyout, but i hav 42k, i don't want to pay for a new engine once i buy it!! yikes nbymissy 05-22-2007, 07:28 PM yeah, can you guys explain what happened to your engines?? my lease is up in 5 months and i was convinced on a buyout, but i hav 42k, i don't want to pay for a new engine once i buy it!! yikes I don't have details on the problem with mine yet. I've only had it for 6 months and this was the 8th or 9th time I've had it at the dealership. I think they may have just gotten tired of me! From what I can tell - some people have constant problems and others have never had a problem. Maybe you're a lucky one. avenger 05-22-2007, 07:33 PM What year were your cars? AT or MT? nbymissy 05-22-2007, 07:49 PM What year were your cars? AT or MT? Mine is an 04 AT. Rootski 05-22-2007, 07:51 PM Mine is an 04 AT. There's your problem. NoTears316 05-22-2007, 08:24 PM any suggestion about how not to screw up the new engine Whatever you did last time... stop doing it. CarAndDriver 05-22-2007, 08:27 PM 04 AT=problematic. Break it in properly and then sell it and get a MT. hitman408 05-22-2007, 08:45 PM Good thing it rotary engine and they didn't try to trick you 9krpmrx8 05-22-2007, 08:51 PM I had my engine replaced at 20k and mine is a manual. You would have to poll but I think the engine problem was mainly in the 04's but I could be wrong. I do know five or six guys locally that have had their engiens replaced as well so it's not that uncommon. puch96 05-22-2007, 08:57 PM i have 04 RX-8 and had about 41k on it and engine gave up so i am getting new engine for free i am happy brand new engine. any suggestion about how not to screw up the new engine Yes... sell the car and get something else.. expo1 05-22-2007, 09:04 PM Just a minor point you will get a rebuilt engine, not a "new" one. They do not ship new engines from Japan for warranty work. Then yours most likely will be rebuilt and put in someone elses 8. nbymissy 05-22-2007, 09:25 PM Just a minor point you will get a rebuilt engine, not a "new" one. Right now, a rebuilt that runs is a plus with me. nbymissy 05-22-2007, 09:28 PM 04 AT=problematic. Break it in properly and then sell it and get a MT. Nah...I prefer having an AT right now. I really love the car so the problems that I've had haven't really bothered me. As long as Mazda is willing to fix them, I'm happy. Watch out when your warranty is out. 2tone 05-22-2007, 11:17 PM i have an '04 manual. i had a problem with my cat, they replaced it free of charge - nothing else major has gone wrong, knock on wood... CarAndDriver 05-22-2007, 11:39 PM Make sure you rev it regularly. RotaryResurrection 05-23-2007, 01:13 AM Oddly enough I have an 04 AT with 111k miles on the original engine. Starting and idling are getting a little weak, but I added premix to the tank and it helped that out some. Car runs pretty well otherwise. coll3735 05-23-2007, 02:04 AM Watch out when your warranty is out. Yeah, I've got less than a year left; I'm slightly scared. paulmasoner 05-23-2007, 02:09 AM Yeah, I've got less than a year left; I'm slightly scared. you should be, cause when your mom gets in it for the first time, your gonna blow a couple shocks out :Eyecrazy: coll3735 05-23-2007, 02:55 AM Your mom cannot even get into the vehicle. FACE FACE!!! By the way, check your damn messenger. nbymissy 05-23-2007, 08:10 AM Watch out when your warranty is out. I got an extended warranty from the dealership that I bought it from. 90,000 miles. After that - I'm getting rid of it. marcus321 05-23-2007, 10:32 AM can u get an extended warranty after u buy the car like 2 years down the road before the original warranty expires? nbymissy 05-23-2007, 06:47 PM can u get an extended warranty after u buy the car like 2 years down the road before the original warranty expires? I have no idea. I got mine when I purchased the car. The warranty isn't through Mazda. moyica 05-25-2007, 12:46 PM Nah...I prefer having an AT right now. I really love the car so the problems that I've had haven't really bothered me. As long as Mazda is willing to fix them, I'm happy. I seem to be in the exact same boat as you. 8's in the shop getting a new (refubished) engine as we speak. I have nothing but traffic lights were I live so I don't mind the AT and as long as Mazda covers all these problems. CarAndDriver 05-25-2007, 01:34 PM How late can one get an extended warranty? NoPistonZ 05-25-2007, 04:09 PM Well, I bought an 04 TiGray in Nov 06 w/ 28K and I get inundated with extended warranty postcards that I will look over tonight...so as long as it's still under manufacturer's warranty, you should be able to get one. I am looking into one as I type this...anybody have an good leads/coverage/price? |
