Hi all

Just to let everyone know, a couple of RX8 items in the new Car Magazine this month:

1. Small pull out advert advertising RX8 (quite cool actually) in middle of mag.

2. Review of Lo-power RX8, not got the mag with me this morning, but suggested that the Lo Power is easier to live with and you don't need to push as hard to accelerate. The end of the article suggested you saved £2,000 and do without the extra power + Xenons etc and save on Insurance/mpg.

I know the majority on here have ordered the Hi-Power version, so don't shoot the messenger!

The Car got a rated of 4 out of 5.

As I have ordered 7 months ago a LP version here I must have anticipated this article .........?

To be honest if I do go for a RX8, I think I'm going to go for the Lo-Power, especially if the mpg/insurance works out cheaper!

I understand that, from what our US fellows have been reporting, the Hi-Pow RX8 puts down something around 170-190WHP. Anyone knows if there have been any dyno-tests of the Low-Pow in US, and their results ?

The only non 238bhp cars in the US is the Auto 210ps one.

And the RX-8 doesnt dyno.

I think the hi-power will sell better 2nd hand looking at sales of the new car.

Theres still tons of 175/150 2wd/lhd TT's around tho, and they sell pretty well.

Lo-power is certainly not a bad choice, most of the performance + handling of the hi-power with a bit more torque and better MPG.

Personaly I dont think £2k is much to ask for HIDs, 6 gears etc, plus the extra power, but the one thinhg I do want is that 9k redline.

What exactly do you mean ? Maybe it refuses to be dyno-tested ? :D

You cant accuratly test the rwhp of the car on a dyno, because the ECU gets many conflicting readings from various sensors that puts it into safe mode to protect the engine and cat.

So, all the magazines and sites that have been dynoing thousands of FWD, RWD and AWD cars for years now, have been wrong ? :confused:

Or is this applicable only for the RX8 ? Seems veeeeery peculiar in this way........

The RX-8 has one of the most advanced ECU's going - check out the stick thread in the tech forum : http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10988

And its not the only car that has had trouble being dyno'd either.

All I got from that thread is that the ECU used in the RX8 has a CPU far more advanced that what Mazda has been using up until now........that, and the fact that some guys are trying to dump the JDM ECU code, and reprogram the US ECU hoping that they will "discover" the 247HP promised in Japan's RX8s.......

Anyway, if others have had problems with dynoing the RX8, I wont object, cause I dont have any proof for the opposite.......it just seems odd.......During all these years, I may have heard or read about 5-6 (at the most) cars that couldnt be dyoned.....

Check mazda's engineers official statement on rotarynews about dynoing an 8.

I'm sure it will be possible, when all the right sensors are figured out, but several (that are mentioned in tech books) havnt been found yet.
