Now onto the dampers and the typical questions and concerns:

Most common concern is the lifting of the hood when closed, attached I have images of peoples cars that already have them and lifting is very small. Only at certain angles are the dampers seen.

Another typical concern is the use with CF Hoods: They can be used with CF hoods but caution and correct closure must be used, such as typically applying pressure where the dampers are mounted to close the CF hood.

This kit is extremely beneficial for those that work under the hood and it also looks great!

Installation is extremely easy and can be done in under 20 minutes with basic hand tools.

All hardware and instructions needed are included.

Wow, I remember when I bought these off ebay when they weren't know for around $80. They weren't tein, but they do the job. Best upgrade so far.

It was made specific for the rx-8 and is already prealigned..most people that have these already like the features of the dampers and forget about the minor lifting.

The hood is slightly raised now because of the mounting bracket but thats to be expected. You can only see it from the rear tho. From the front it looks the same.

LOL - im glad i ordered mine independently. The shop i ordered mine from has a good rep with Tein... and they got mine in a week, along with other tein products for other customers as well.

Okay guys sorry about not updating to you what was going on.....This past week my life basically went absolutely crazy.

My father was in the hospital for an emergency surgery and had to go down to West Palm Beach to be with him this past Wednesday, everything is okay now thankfully, not to mention all the other bullshit in my life.

But back on subject, I have been having issues with the vendor that is supplying the dampers and basically had to go with someone else. We had discussed the price and they turn around and say now they won't be able to give me the price that I had orginally got. So now with the new vendor I have placed the order with them and the biggest issue right now is they only have 15 dampers in stock with tein the rest will have to be fabricated. They said it will take about a month for the 15 to be made, the only plus of this is that it has already been a week, so they are making more as we speak.

The best way I can think of for people to recieve these are to go down the list from when they signed up, I of course will be holding off for the second shipment only beacuse I think it is fair to give it to someone else on the list, I can wait.

I really do feel terrible about this situation, not to mention I know how it feels to pay for your new toy and not be able to get it right away.

I will post updates for you guys when I know more.

Since it haven't arrived yet, I would like to change my mind and leave them as they are and not have them powder coated.

It is rare to group buy where anything gets delivered in less than a month. That's just the nature of the beast. When I paid, I pretty much figured it would be a while.

Few vendors are going to have $2000 plus in hood dampener inventory. So, you contact them and they order more from tein. To get you the bulk buy price they agreed to, they order them all from tein at the same time (to get the best price from tein). Then they show up at the vendor and he ships to the point man. Then the point man loses a couple days because he doesn't live at the post office and has an actual job. He also has to fend off questions from the wife about the 2000$ in car parts he's not supposed to have that are sitting in the living room. Then they start getting shipped out to people.

I think it is safe to say that the majority of us are willing to wait as long as you update us every several days. The reason why we get nervous is because we've had group buys that have never come to a conclusion and ended up calling authorities to get things completed. We understand that things don't always work out as smooth and timely as we would like. That's fine for most of us. Updates are welcomed though.

By the way, I would like to remind you once again I would like my hood damper left the way it is, without the powder coat.

This is my first group buy. I'm glad it was just hood dampers. I haven't done many mods to my car at all, and don't really intend too. All I know is that I hate non hydraulic hoods and its been driving me nuts since I bought the car. :)

I understand delays and change in vendors. I appreciate the effort put forth by the guys who get GBs done. I just like to hear updates every couple days and I'm a happy camper.

***UPDATE***

Tein shipped out 15 of the hood dampers but 30 are on order. They did not give an eta on arrival but ususally it is about 2 weeks or so depending on where they ship from. 1st 15 should be fairly soon. I will keep checking for you guys. Brice has been a little busy getting his car fixed. Im sure he will post today.

Ha Ha........I was wondering how you got involved in all this. I know I wanted mine powder coated, but I don't want to get put down on the list just because it easier to ship the non-painted ones first. Nobody has suggested that, I just wanted to be sure.

Daveits very easy to install... i would highly suggest tossing the grease that comes with the dampers and using a lithium grease instead.

Yeah..I know it's a piece of cake, but there are usually one or two little things that can make anything go smoother. Good tip on the Lithium, I'll remember that. I'm already thinking of ways to make the apparent gap not so noticeable, but won't really be able to tell until I get them and see.

The install took all of about 15-20 mins with prep time. Definitely go with lithium grease, the stuff they give you does royally suck. Pick up some good thread lock fluid too. Ideally assemble them the night before using the thread lock fluid so it can set overnight. Other than that, it is pretty straight forward.

Also I'm working with a buddy who owns a machine shop to see if we can fab a better bracket for the hood. We're hoping to come up with a thinner version made of Aluminum, so the gap is even less noticeable.

If you switched to a thinner bracket, wouldn't you want to go to a stronger metal? 1/8th inch aluminum is not exactly the strongest thing in the world.

Why make a bracket at all? If you have a buddy with a shop why not try welding a ball joint the the existing hood bracket?

The piston are not long enough to reach the OE bracket without dramatically lowering the hood while it was up.


As far as using aluminum, I can get 5083 grade aluminum and at 1/8 should be more than strong enough.

just installed mine this weekend, took about 15 minutes, works wonderful, the gap isn't as noticeable as i thought it would be, compared to the picture that's posted in this thread.

Yeah Mon...been waiting since May 17th. That's now over three months. I know there were some issue, but just mine went to paint supposedly about two weeks ago. :banghead:

I took it to a professional shop to get painted, no cost increases same quality you would expect.

Sorry for everything, I am really tired of all this BS as much as you guys are, trying to do something nice and has become the biggest hassle for me. I know how much it sucks having to wait for your stuff.

K....I am back from hell.

!. My friends are morons and they apparently dropped off the dampers last week to get painted and never told me till tonight.

They will be ready tommorow......Hopefully

I will call the paint shop to confirm and pickup.

I will also be calling the vendor to see the status of the next shipment.....I dont want to take anymore orders until I can get a definite number on how many I can get. I still have people that are owed dampers long time due.

In relation to cancelling orders, deposits were already made I know this sucks and some people have made plans to be ready for certain events and shows but occasionally in the aftermarket industry things dont workout. So my deepest apologies to those that are inconvienced.

so you're saying that NO ONE can cancel their order? how many dampers have you recieved from your vendor already? How many have been shipped?

I would buy them elsewhere if you want to get them timely. You would only be saving about $20 to what you can get them for on ebay and we have been waiting over 3 months.

I would send yours unpainted but it is already painted, I have been trying to get a hold of the guy that is painting them.

a friend thru a friend thru an aquaintance...hence why it was so cheap to get these painted


I got in contact with the vendor and was able to get a hold of 6 more dampers they are shipping them out by the end of the week

Tein should have the dampers instock by the end of the september\early october

So, are my dampeners in the mail or waiting to be shipped? I have "will ship" next to my name from the last edit. I believe I have provided all the necessary info when I originally purchased. I don't check the forums too much currently, lots of automotive things to attend to. I guess they get here when they get here. I have to get my car fixed after it just got hit by a bus anyway.
