http://frankfurt-auto-show.autoblog.com/2007/05/13/spy-shots-next-generation-mazda6-coming-to-frankfurt/

Some new spyshots which the source of the shots says is the MPS/Mazdaspeed version since they believe they see a bulge in the hood and a front mount IC. Ill let you decide. It also says this is the hatch version. I dont see much change in the roofline. it could just be the camoflauge.

Autoblog then says the new 6 may debut at Frankfurt although the title is more definite.

Franfurt is September 13 to 23. Ending one week before 7stock 10. Could a new 6 be on display at 7stock like the CX-9 this past year?

On the current Mazda6 you can’t really tell if it is a hatch (5-door) or 4-door sedan unless you get up close and see the clear back glass.
Now the wagon... you can see that ugly thing from a mile away.

funny you say that, b/c alot of folks seem to like the wagon, but I don't know how well they sell.

I hope they offer the new 6 in a hatch and wagon. It is one way to differentiate it from the Camry and Accord sedan clones.

There is only so much you can do with the wagon shape, but Audi does a pretty nice job with theirs.

That goes without saying. All the new Mazdas definitely have Zoom Zoom looks more so than ever.

Horribly. The Mazda6 wagon is Mazda's lowest volume model.

Well they are low volume models here, they probably sell better in other parts of the world?

Speaking of the CX-9 - judging from the spy shots, it looks like the new 6 may have some very similar looking tail lights. If so, I'd be quite happy - I always thought the tails on the CX-9 looked really nice, almost like something off a luxury car.

Wait, what!? The 5-door hatch is out of production!? I thought that was one of Mazda's best looking cars! I even talked my roomie into buying one. :)

I like the tail lights too...and i think the "bulge" in the hood is just the wind blowing the cover up

Please don't screw this up Mazda, the current 6 looks so good

I dunno, I've seen quite a number of the 6 5-door. Not many wagons though...

I also think the 5DR 6 is the best looking of the current 6 models.

Ah, no the new Mazda 6 will be coming to Australia for our Motor Shows before it is shown at 7stock...remember the Kabura....unless they have more than one of course, IF it is shown at Frankfurt it then will go back to Japan for Tokyo MS in October, then down to Mazda Australia...they have also been testing here for months...pre production.
And yes the 6 will be in the 3 body styles, Hatch,Wagon, Sedan...I have heard a rumor of a 2 Door COUPE!

2DR would be sweet to fight the Accord and Altima coupes.

2DR would be sweet to fight the Accord and Altima coupes.

A guy on Probetalk.com just posted in there saying he saw what looked like a disguised 2 door Mazda6 coupe on I-75 about 5 miles from the plant in Flatrock, MI. Asking if anyone had heard something about it. He had no prior knowledge of a new 6 coming.

Said there was a 4 door and a 2 door heavily disguised driven buy Japanese guys. Mazda emblems on the front were covered up and all.

Of course right after that a guy that actually works at the plant(longtime Probetalk member) posted saying that he can assure us there has not been a 2 door body in the paint shop there, but there are a few new 4 door bodies which are about 7-9 inches longer than current.

I can't wait to see what it looks like. I remember my 2003 Mazda6s very fondly. It was loaded with everything except nav. It reminded me how fun it is to drive again after 8 years with a SUV. 3 months after I started autocrossing, I sold the 6 and bought the Z. Now, I pine for the 8 and/or MS3. I want my wife to buy a CX7 or 9.

I don't have any Mazdas in my garage, but I'm a Mazda whore wannabe.

I bet it will still be slower than an equivalent Altima. But it should out handle one

A 2 Door Mazda 6 could be fully imported (Japan) rather than made at Flat Rock.
Would not be worth the tooling to make a 2 door IMO.

So for a while, many people were thinking that the new 6 would debut at the Tokyo show... but if it's debuting at Frankfurt, I wonder if Mazda will be debuting something else at Tokyo. Perhaps a concept or the new 3? How far off is the new 3 for development/introduction into the market?

The 2 door Accord isn't even made in Japan. Hell... the US Accord is totally different car than the JDM Accord. In our case here... mazda wouldn't even bother trying to sell a 2 door Mazda 6 in Japan because it'd never sell.
