This is actually pretty cool, especially for those in engineering. A colleaque of my came across this during their materials search.
Pretty neat stuff. Strength of metal but softness of plastic. Check out their website and play the video demo of the bouncing balls.

Listening to the duscussion of the material was dry, but amazing. Too bad it's thickness is limited to about 1" I read currently. The ball thing was almost magical. Finally, something actually revolutionary!

Who can think of applications for this material?
certainly not for rigidty like car frames
suspension with some type on dampening (storing the energy absorbed?)
....I wonder what it's modulus of elasticity is, and also it's Moel hardness; that would also say how it could be used.

It is already being used in a new line of tennis racquets.

It's has a cast strength of 245 ksi! And it will flow like plastic when heated (I think to 700 deg. F) so it can be injection molded. I can use one tool instead of many tools to make parts. They are making cell phone cases in Korea from this material.
Of course it is very expensive and rather unproven. It's going to take awhile to break from the comfort of good ole steel.

there you go, use it for golf balls. Take a swing at it and watch it bounce like a whole mile from the tee. :D

I bought a liquidmetal driver on ebay last year but I still haven't had the chance to try it out yet. I'm a sucker for cool stuff sometimes. :)

I think you could encase people in speres, drop them off of large buildings, and send them to space.....Someone call NASA!!!!!
