Hi all,

I’ve been reading this excellent forum for many, many month and now I’m another proud owner of a great titanium GT (ordered March 03). I took delivery of my baby just over 3 weeks now and I got a bad surprise on my return of vacation yesterday (yep… 10 days off in the Bahamas!)

IT TOOK 21 DAYS TO GET ALL 4 MAGS STOLLEN!

This is what annoying me; I’m living in a very quiet city on the Montreal south shore in a nice area surrounded with nice houses and a lot of very decent cars everywhere (S2000, Audi, BMW, MB…). I’m also living in the kind of street that leads nowhere, ie to pass in front of my house, you basically have to live on the same street.

Now there is my questions:

Q1: How can someone knew that a brand new RX-8 was on a little street in a little village that nobody goes? In addition, if you do the math, out of the 3 weeks that I had the car I had very little time to show off since it remain mostly in my the drive way (2 over 3 weeks)! Do you guys suspect address leaks from the dealer?

Q2: On which, if any, other cars can those 18” mags fit?

Advice, get lock nuts on your RX-8 mags, it seem to have an unforeseen growing market…

Ciao

what happened to the lock nuts that came with the car, did you have those installed?

eek! Seriously the locks should have been on the car from the dealer!

And I don't think they will fit any other car, well maybe but very rare indeed. They will probably sell them.

Canadian cars don't come with them standard.
I guess they figure there is no crime in Canada, or something.
I had mine ordered and in to the dealership a week before the car arrived.

Mine came with them! All the dealers put them on here, or the wheels get stolen right off their lots!

That sucks, mine were in the glove box when I got my car.

Truth, if you go to any site and search for wheels to match the RX8, you'll then be able to find anything else the RX8 wheels will fit.

The web serves all well - even crooks.

Bad break - sorry for ya.

Any other damage to the car - those logs?

Remember too, it's not just the wheels, the tyres alone are worth a bit too! Particularly new!!!

Sorry to read your tale. That truly sucks.

Sorry to hear about this... If I see another car with rx8 wheels on it, I'll definately take the plate down and give you the info!

On a brighter note. It doesn't look like they dropped the car on the ground. Less damage. So it looks like they were interested in the tires and wheels and not a crime to hurt you personally.

I just called my dealer and he told me that the only mazda delivered with lock nut was the mazdaspeed. If I would had specifically asked for it I would probably got it for free... Too bad for me! Amazing how dealers can be cheap! (especially mine... service is terrible) Still waiting for a replacement estimate...

Hard to tell if something was damaged... two wheels were resting on ball joint or hardware... I'll have to test drive it to see..

Thanks for watching!

I strongly suspect that they did that to facilitate removal of their jack, rather than out of concern for the car. Bastards.

Goddamit! Why do some people think it it acceptable to trade their short term happiness for other people's misery. What kind of mental reality do such fools have?!

Ouch!!!!

Sorry to hear about that. It was the first thing they did when the car came in aside from locking it in the garage.

As an aside, I just bought my wife a 2004 Toyota Matrix XR. The car came with locks installed. I did not ask for them. Sucks that Mazda did not make this standard across the board.

MOG, so sorry to hear of the wheels theft.

Wheel locks are standard on the RX-8 in the US - it's Mazda Canada that changed the spec on the Canadian RX-8s.

FWIW, there are four RX-8 tires and rims for sale on e-bay from Montreal

Interesting how most his "good" comments are all from the same people, most on items from the same motercycle... I can't imagine this is some kind of a chop shop! :D Now, the problems is, how does on report this and actually catch the bastard???

MOG
10-26-2003, 07:09 AM
That's interesting... now what can I do to catch this "pretender0202@hotmail.com", even the police don't want to do a thing!

Sad, sad, sad

The big problem I see is actually identifying them as yours...I wouldn't have a problem since I put a nice scratch on one of mine going through a "touchless" car wash :(

MadJoker

Have you tried contacting E-bay about it, and telliing them?, Maybe they can give out some info to you or cops , or cancel the bid before they leave for the states...

According to the owners manual each tire pressure sensor has a unique ID. Seems like you might be able to use that as proof.

I'd think the first approach would be to act innocent and simply ask the seller what replacement wheels he put on his RX-8, and ask if he has photos of his car with them on. A genuine enthusiast owner should be able or even keen to show off his new wheels.

I'm looking through his previous items - and one of them is a Kawasaki motorcycle that has been stripped down.

I read about the police busting guys selling bad Sh*t on e-bay all the time........Last week they busted a guy here in Palm Beach for selling a "Flat screen TV...great Picture"....it was a photo of a television he sold to 7-8 people for up to 7-grand!!! Well, cops put an end to that...arrested him, and folks might be able to get their money back.....so it's worth talking to the police. They can do some amazing things sometimes.

This is Canada though - unless you are raped or murdered, don't expect much

I didnt think Canada got the tyre pressuse sensor stuff tho:/

IMO this looks 100% the stolen wheels. And unless that guy can prove where he got those wheels from, and it has to lead back to eithre a dealer or a legit car, then he'd need prosecuting, but , ho to get the police along?

Well the seller claims that they upgraded to custom wheels. If the ones shown are standard rims then that is more believable.

If these shown are the upgraded rims, then who on earth would shell out for the Mazda upgrade and then only 150 miles later upgrade again.

So if these are the upgraded rims they are certainly fishy.

Wing

Those are the standard wheels, the post doesn't really seem fishy except that it's in montreal.

Asking him for specs on his replacement rims might be the best idea.

MyRxBad

Ask the seller if they are canadian spec rims or US spec rims as you are looking for one's with the tire pressure sensor.
Might give you a little more info on them.

If your insurance company shelled out money for replacement wheels, contact them. Besides if they did, these wheels (if they are the stolen ones) now belong to them

They have alot of weight when it comes to getting the police involved.

Hope this helps.

For everyone else reading this post.

Time to take your wheels off your car, etch your VIN number on them and buy wheel locks.

Thank me later

Excellent advise regarding the VIN... I will be doing this when my snow tires arrive.

Already have the wheel locks for both the regular and winter rims but that's a good idea about etching the VIN.

Thanks

By the way, while I was at the Mazda Dealership a few months ago, the Sale person was telling how they now etch the VIN on most of the major components on all of their cars. I think they called it some sort of "Protect Program" which they "gave" it to you for free. (anyone sale scheme) Anyone know anything about this ? I suppose they don't do the wheels then huh ? <rolleyes>

PS: I was at Markham Mazda at Hwy 7 and McCowan

I jut find it interesting that the wheels are avalible less then one month after they were stolen. THe pictures show 10/20/03. Your first post was on 19/25/03.

I would honestly lose my mind knowing what the f**ker is doing with my tires.

Call mazda and ask if they've made replacment rims for the rx8.

if they do:

Then ask how long it takes for the back order to come in. Then call this guy and ask how long he had to wait for the back order because your interested in the wheels yourself. He'll believe you because the auction for your rims are over. See if it all adds up ....

But before you ask him anything, ask him why he took the rims off his rx8. If he says he bought new rims for his rx8.... I woud find out somehow if he has an rx8..... if he doesn't then he's obviously bullshitting.

good luck Mog
