Well today was a half day of school in my town. Usualy I think nothing of it at all and my car has always been left untouched. Sadly today was aparently different. I got out of work and seen some odd white mark on my hood. At first I thought it was a piece of string or I dunno something other than a scratch, but I was wrong. I touched it and felt the indent and got pissed right away. I took out my camera from the car and snapped a few shots. I went to the police station (right across the street) and had a cruiser come take a report. I'm unsure if I should file a claim at my insurance company 'cause my deductible I believe is $500. and I sure as hell dont have that on me at the moment (long story some people know).
So I dunno any advice on what to look for in a bodyshop? I've never had to deal with one so I dont wish to get scammed here.

Oh damn.

That looks deep.

Best way to find a body shop/ Paint shop is word of mouth. Ask around in your local forums here, maybe somebody knows somebody else who knows a body shop.

(If anything this is an excuse to get a tight aftermarket hood) ;)

Lucky you only got the hood. Someone keyed mine from the back fender, up both doors, and stopping at the front fender.

^Trust me I was looking up and down my car after seeing this scratch to see if there were any others. Part of me wishes they did cause then I'd go to the insurance company and pay the $500 to just repaint the entire car hehe.

Oh and yes the car is dirty, I was kinda happy cause it was nice out and I was gonna wash her today but this kinda ruined my mood.

Sorry to hear about this Kevin. You wouldn't imagine this kind of stuff happening in the Norwood/Westwood area but this just shows that it can happen anywhere. Don't worry about the bastard/s who did this, Karma will take care of them.

Ask around, search other car forums (BMW, Porsche, Bentley), or call an exotic car dealer to locate a really good body shop—the difference in work between an ordinary shop and a great one can be astonishing. One good thing—and I could really be wrong about this—but I think the hood can be removed and then, after they finish painting, baked at high temperature. I don't think they can do that when they have to repaint, say, the rear quarter, as too many parts can't withstand the heat of baking.

Ok you guys are cheering me up thank you (and the gf is to hehe) so I'm now gonna look into a CF hood. Anyone know anyone that makes a good copy of the Varis Hood with the vents in it?? hehe

I'm still pissed about all this though, now I know how parents must feel when someone hits their kid. lol

Of all the places you can get "keyed", the hood is the best because it is relatively easy to prep and paint.
Too bad you don't live around here, I'd do it for you for cost (about $45).
You can actually fill and blend a scratch like that, but it takes some talent.

A turnkey multi-camera video surveillance system for automobiles is around 1500-2000. I think about it all the time. It would be worth it, if I could catch just one person, one licence plate number, one time, for the justice.

I work for a large insurance company, and I would say for you to not go through your insurance for a scratch. True, your comprehensive coverage would cover it, but you run the risk of significantly increasing your rates as a result. Insurance companies (like the one I work for) look at past claims for individual companies and see what people are willing to report. If it seems like something small and the insurance company pays somewhat large (lets say, to repaint your entire car for a scratch) your rates will definitely go up.

I would say just take care of the scratch, and don't report it.

lol. Probably the best option.

That f'ing sucks. Revive the thread when you find a resolution: cf or repaint.

I'm sorry to hear about that -- the person who did that need needs to definetly be taught a lesson.

Since they like defacing property I would say to teach them a lesson get a knife and cut a huge mark on whoever's forehead as a day to day reminder to respect other peoples stuff.

Stupidity is no excuse - and the sad thing is these people will never change. The best option is to scar them for life or just exterminate them. Yeah some will argue its cruel and unfair but there is always that invisible "line" and when you cross it -- you deserve what you get.

quite the opposite -- whoever did this had NO balls. I can understand how doing this makes someone feel good or cool.

Man that sucks. These scummy lowlifes need to be flogged in public and never have the record forgotten. There's no excuse for this kind of behaviour.

Well I went to a family friends place and he said it would cost 300-350 to repaint and repair the hood (it has a small dent on the rotor accent in the hood, right on the crease to but its old). He kinda made up my mind, I'm now looking for a CF hood, he said he'd put it on to if I decided that route. Ok now off to ebay!!! lol.

make sure you get a CF hood thats actually lighter than stock. Alot of the cheapie cf bits are very high resin content and heavier than their aluminum counter parts.

When I saw that keyed hood, I uncontrollably began urinating and seizing in my office. The next thing knew, I was here in prison, charged with the premeditated murder of three teens in MA.

people have no respect for other people's belongings. 4 days ago, someone slashed the tires of my dad's car and my aunt's car on the same night. last night, someone through a huge brick through someone's windshield next door. i don't know if it's vandalize other people's property week or if people are just plain stupid.

Erm I hope your being sarcastic in your post man. Its down to the metal and its over a foot long to boot. That isnt touch up paint worthy lol.. it just overshot it completely.

So far looking on Ebay these hoods cost the same as if I went through a normal website, kinda disapointed in that :( I seen a VIS VS CF Hood that looks sick and has the style I wanna have. But its more than having the hood repainted grrr.. but then again I can just save up and just friggin' upgrade and use this as a excuse lol.. I'll just hide the price from my family who are anti-car modification hehe.

I get the urge to kill condors when I see bird crap on my 8. I can just imagine the fire in your eyes when you saw the scratch.

At least you'll be getting a sweet CF hood out of the hassle.

I got keyed pretty bad. My insurance said that it comes under different coverage. (comprehensive) It only cost me $100 and did not go on my record. My deductable is $500.

Total cost was around $1000. (insurance paid)
