Hello all!

Wanted to pose a question.

A friend of mine suggested that this car's appeal will be to auto enthusiasts. (I think being here qualifies us as that) Because of this, he felt that the sale of this car will be very good at first but then will dwindle because of our limited numbers.

Personally, I can see his point but I disagree.

I began looking for a car recently and I had a few criteria that I found hard to fill (in no particular order). :)
1. High performance - engine power and handling
2. Great looks
3. 4 seats (not 2+2). I've got kids.
4. Reasonably affordable (<$35,000)

This is one of the only cars that fits! Not to mention, it is one of the most beautiful and original cars I've seen in some time. The reason I think this car will be sucessful is because it is the type of car people dream of and the type of car that can fit in their lives.

What are your thoughts?

Read around, we are all nuts about the car :)

However, since many of us have been waiting since the RX-Evolv to see this car in our garage, we may have lost our minds quite some. I know I have.

Hadn't thought about it at all, as I plan on this car being a keeper. That might sound short-sighted, but there is no car I'd rather have.

my wife and i were having this discussion a while ago. and she put it like this " this car is the new mustang". now before everybody starts flaming my wife let me explain. what she meant was that this car is a revolution in the making. much like the mustang did in 1964 my wife ( and i agree) believes this car will change car making. the mustang was so popular it created a whole class of "pony" car imitators(take note that only the mustang is left) and changed the auto industry. i think that once this car is out there will be a slew of four or five seat, great performance to the dollar,amazing styling, great fit and finish cars for us to choose from. and 30 yrs from the rx8 just might be the only one left after all the imitators are gone. just think how much someone is going to be willing to pay for an all original 2004 rx8! now who wants to flame my wife!;)

Bah! The RX-8? You guys are still going on about that old thing?

I had a 1980 Toyota Corolla sport coupe fastback/hatchback for 10 years. My current vehicle is a 1990 Probe (yes, I know that they aren't available any more :p ) I also plan on keeping the RX-8 for at least 10 years.

2 years ago, I was planing on the RX-8 coming out then and I was hoping to wait at least a year with the plan to negociate and get it a few hundred over Dealer cost... Now I'm not sure how much more my probe will last ... and if I get the car next year, I'll be paying at least MSRP or more (which I realy don't want to do).

I really hope that more (mainstream) people will fall in love with the RX-8 like those of us here! While it is true that most new cars, lose their desirability around the third year, usualy that's the time the automaker does something to refresh it!

Plus, the RX-8 has a rotary ... no one else can say that! I remember when I was younger and read a Popular Science Magazine showcasing the first Rotary engine as the motor of the future! Well ...we may not have personal robots or flying cars, but we will have the RX-8 (and later the revived RX-7) :D

Oh, and let's not forget about the Miata :D

Mazda should easly be able to keep the RX-8 alive if they deliver the RX-8 as the driving experience they promised (and current reviewers have written about) and making it a safe, dependable and reliable vehicle that possibly Consumer Reports can recomend (I believe that's what was helped the Passat become as popular as it is since 2000- Hey, after looking at what was out there when my wife needed a new car, reading CR and doing our own test drives helped us make up our mind to own a 2000 Passat)

But, hey what do I know.

...the way I keep holding onto cars, by the time my 4 1/2 year old daughter learns to drive ... this might be her first car (right now she wants her very own yellow new bettle for daddy to drive until she's old enough to go places on her own - the compromise was to get her the bettle for her barbie dolls to drive :D And my 1 1/2 year old son has co-opted her pink Barbie Jeep :( We need Mattel to make an RX-8 for Barbie! [why does that doll have all the luck? I've seen her driving a new t-bird already] :p )

I really do hope the RX-8 sticks around- I want one because I'll be able to keep it when we start thinking about kids in a couple years. I can also haul husband and another couple around, or drag coworkers out to lunch, or stick all the laundry in the back, or chaffeur my in-laws around when they're here- AND it'll be a REALLY fun car to drive. I don't see how it can lose! A four-seat miata on steroids...wow....
