View Full Version : There's no explaining people's tastes

I had the strangest encounter yesterday in the Kroger parking lot. This couple got out of their vehicle, came over to my car as I was getting out, and were just drooling over it. "That's a Mazda, isn't it?" "I bet you have people gawking at it all the time." "What model is it?" "Oh, I see, an RX-8! That's the new one with the rotary engine, right? Haven't seen one of those yet...did you get it around here?" "My wife used to have an RX-7, that car had 300,000 miles on it before it finally died."

Nothing unusual so far, right? Well, the vehicle this couple got out of was a Pontiac Aztec! Ugh!

I just can't understand how someone can like the styling of both the RX-7/RX-8 AND the Pontiac Aztec!

Maybe some people have a certain quota of good taste they can use up, like luck. And when they hit it, they start buying things like Aztecs and Elements, and velvet Elvis pictures...

And what is it with Kroger? I always get attacked by people at Kroger wanting to see my car- I've been stopped there more times than in anywhere else.

LOL, yeah, I guess that's it.

I don't know -- but Target seems to be the same way. Those are the two places I get accosted most often.

Something else a little strange...out on the road, it's often motorcyclists who give me thumbs up, or do a "Linda Blair". Does anybody have an explanation for cyclists love for the RX-8?

They are both out of the ordinary... Some people like strange looking unique vehicles.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know taste in cars, artwork, architecture, etc. is mostly subjective. BUT...

In this case, we're talking about the Aztec, a car that is almost universally labeled "UGLY" -- that is, every review I've ever seen has called it ugly.

We're also talking about the RX-8 -- I've never seen a credible review of it that said the styling was "ugly".

People don't always buy vehicles that they think look good?

I mean, I see a lot of WRXs on the road... (just kidding, that one was for Ike)

Virginia Tech Class of '90! (well, I was orginally Class of '88, but I ran into financial problems and had to go part time, so it took me 6 1/2 years to finish!)
