I'm in the market for an 8....Is it me or do the yellows look as good on the net as in person? I was kinda sold on a grey one till I saw one at my local hospital the other night..I sat in a white 06 last summer with my 17 year old son and he loved it.Said I need to get one. And his best friend drives him around in his dads g35 coupe six speed said he liked it just as well!...Yellow with dark tinted windows what do you think?

well duh, yellow is the best color ever, no surprise there :D:

Seriously though, they were only made the frist year in a limited quantity so good luck finding one, you might stumble upon someone who is tired of their car etc, but I have a feeling as time goes on that they be harder to come by (like the CYM Rx7) :)

this would be good in the rx8 discussion, anyways i would agree that the white cars seem to always have that unique clean look to them

Yellow seems to be a very personal color. Not my cup of tea though.

Yellow is one of those love it or leave it sports car colors. I happen to love it. I bought my car new in '04. I was actually going to wait for the '05s to come in, but once I heard that yellow was a first year model only color, I pulled the trigger!

Here's an old thread that you might enjoy reading. The joys and pains of owning a yellow 8.

The yellow on the 8 is awsome with dark tinted windows and mazdaspeed ! I get so many compliments on my car, and never get tired of looking at it. The yellow mazda picked is great. I have my 8 for sale, if you want to see a nice 8 for a great price look there. http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=114673 when I had my nineteens on it it was dead sexy.

Ask what color girls would like, for a man's car. ( red ) I think is the color girls like the best.
And isn't what counts?

Yellow cars are awful IMO. The only time I don't mind it is with exotics such as a Lambo or Ferrari. Keep in mind that many people don't like yellow cars and that may make it more difficult when it comes time to sell your car.

Perhaps there's a reason for that :cwm27:

there is, it's called limited availability :D:

edit: as far as resale goes, maybe the average joe may be a harder sell, but most people will know the significance of the color and may actually pay more for it. The CYM on the Fd is one of the most sought after colors out there and fetches a premium to this day. I'll agree some yellows are nasty, but Mazda did this one right, and I rank it right up there with the Corvette/exotics w/o hesitation. I can't even begin to count how many times I've gotten a thumbs up, a random "nice car" from some stranger driving down the road, just the other day putting gas into it I had a guy start circling my car, it kinda' freaked me out at first and then he was like "I'm just admiring it, that's the best looking car I've seen, what is it?" etc etc. He talked to me for like 10 minutes about what cars he's owned, and all that, it was awesome. Try telling me I'llget that with another color, yeah right. (even if I love all the other colors anyway)

you do know that "most" people are the "average joe.....right?

its a small percentage of people that would be "in the know" enough to realize a significance to yellow other than....its loud. it would take someone that knows Mazda and knows the rx8 to realize that it signifies that it was first year production run and limited availability only. same thing with the yellow FDs. 99.999% of anyone isn't going to know jack squat about the significance of a yellow FD.

The only signifigance to a yellow RX-8 is that not many people wanted that color so it was discontinued.

OTOH, yellow has always been a special color for Mazda. It was discontinued on the 8 by design.

1st gen RX-7 only had yellow during its first year, same with the 3rd gen RX-7 (in the US at least), and then only the first year too for the RX-8. The '92 Sunburst yellow Miata was the only year for that series as well. For the second gen Miata, only in '02 did Mazda offer Blazing Yellow as a special edition. The current MX-5 hasn't gotten the yellow treatment yet.

There are other manufacturers that do the same thing with yellow. It has more to do with the fact that there are very few buyers for yellow cars in comparison to other colors. Making it for one or two years will satisfy the market for the most part. If yellow was one of the best selling colors I bet even Mazda would have continued to offer it.

While it likely is true that yellow cars have a smaller market than some other colors, that's not why Mazda "discontinued" the yellow RX-8.

Mazda makes yellow cars only in the first year of production for a particular model.

Could be interesting in the future, yellow 3rd gen's are certainly deemed special, not sure how that translates into the yellow marketplace for the 8, only time will tell...

Ok, but do they do it that way because it's special or because they know not many people want a yellow Mazda? Maybe some peope, are fooled into thinking it's special because they only make it one year, but demand is the true reason. Trust me, if there was big damand for yellow they would offer it more than just the first year.

But if they didn't expect to sell them, they wouldn't make them.

Lots of other manufacturers have no trouble selling yellow cars every year. Mazda could sell yellow cars every year, too.

The salesman tried real hard to push that car off on me, but I wanted one in black. When I finally bought my 8 six months later the sales guy remembered me and said that the yellow one was still on the lot somewhere. That was three years ago and I don't think they've sold it yet. :p:

Besides the Mazdas, he Evo, WRX, and 350Z all had a limited run of yellow cars and those are just the ones that come to mind right away. Maybe there is a cultural reason for it that we're not aware of... The only sporty car I can think of where yellow seems to be a common color is the S2K. This whole thing is really just a chicken or the egg type argument (btw, the egg came first ;)).

It is interesting how yellow is a very popular color in the S2000, but not so much in lots of other cars. Yellow Mustangs are quite common, as are yellow Corvettes (and mighty fine looking, too). But they are fairly rare otherwise.

The yellow Vette and Mustang seems like it used to be common. With the new generations I don't see nearly as many yellow cars as I do more basic colors. In fact I have yet to see a yellow C6 outside of mags or a dealer lot. Also, call me crazy but it seems yellow is more common on the Vette and Stang in vert form...

i think that only having the yellow option for one year is a way for mazda to keep the resale value for all of the other colors higher. hehe

i'm about to put mine up for sale to get a family car, baby on the way in october and we like the 5, and the salesman was disgusted when the dealership appraiser quoted me $15.5K. and i heard him arguing about the color and that it should be valued higher for its rarity. he told me to park it across the street from eglin afb and i would sell within a week for at least $20K. he also said that they get more test drives for the yellow 8's on the used lot than any other color and they'd love to have another one to sell. i guess they didn't want it enough though.

btw.... gt, manual, 6disc, app. package, 24.6K miles, and only 1300 miles on new michelin pilot's if anyone local is interested.

I think yellow generally looks good on a sporty car -- just not on the RX-8. Mazda's yellow is too pale. It reminds me of a certain bodily fluid... :piss:
