View Full Version : What are folks replacing their RX-8 with?
Alvidrez 09-23-2003, 05:14 PM For those of us who are selling our RX-8 back to Mazda, what are we replacing the car with? For me, I decided to buy a VW Touareg V-8. I frankly could not find another sports car in the same price range that I liked as much as the RX-8, so I went for an SUV. I got the Touareg because it's new and somewhat different than the mainstream vehicles in its class - factors that attracted me to the RX-8
compaddict 09-23-2003, 05:27 PM With another RX-8 of course!

eccles 09-23-2003, 05:31 PM I'll be going back to driving a '92 Explorer (ugh!) until I land another job, at which time I'll be back in an RX-8 ASAP.
English 09-23-2003, 06:01 PM Whaaaa? Why are you going to give back the 8 if you're gonna get another???

Steve T 09-23-2003, 06:39 PM I purchased a Crossfire a couple of weeks ago.
Seems to be about on par with the RX8 in performance.
Ride is a stiffer but just a little and not at all uncomfortable.
Got 22.9 mpg on the first tank of gas. The RX8 got 15mpg on the first tank and has not improved much.
I have had positive comments on the car from a much wider age range than the RX8.
First Crossfire owner I've "met" I didn't even know they were selling these in Canada, haven't seen one yet. $50k is a little much though.
mikeb 09-23-2003, 07:48 PM people are replacing their 8 with another to save money and try to get a better deal
JJFlash 09-23-2003, 07:52 PM Can't deal with 2 seaters although I would love to have one. I have an '04 Accord, V6 EX 6 speed MT waiting at the local Honda dealership as soon as Mazda gives me the check. Drove an '03 version of this car and it felt very smooth, powerful, and the interior seems a little better than the RX. Going with my gut feeling and choosing proven reliability versus taking another chance on some other newer model.
I might be doing the same, although I'm not sure I'll "save" money.
I'll probably loose a few hundred on the interest, although it can't be too much for 2 months.
I got a good interest rate so my "new" car might be at a higher rate which would be a loss.
But I want to F the dealer!

Don't know if they are selling in Canada, bought mine in the god ole USA!
Sticker price on it was 35,500. Paid a little under that.
I checked the canada site, apparently you can get them in Canada, maybe they are limited.
It's kind of funny because they have a "compare it" and it's $6k more than a 350z with the same options worse gas mileage and less power.

do you mind posting pics
Steve T 09-24-2003, 06:25 AM mikeb - I will try to take a few pics in the next day or two. You might want to go to Chrysler's web site, I think they have several movies and photo gallerys.
roachman 09-24-2003, 02:40 PM I agree that I could not find another sports car I liked..
I went back to a SUV. I am going with the Avalanche with out the body cladding.
So many cool features about this SUV/truck.. not as many cool things as the RX-8, but close..
Plus my Moutain bike will have a very safe home...

Steve T 09-24-2003, 02:52 PM roachman - I bought an Avalanche when they first came out. Loved it, had a very smooth ride on and off road. If you ever will be taking it off road, you might want to reconsider the body cladding. My H1 sits up higher but it still has a few streaks down the sides from brush that the Avalanche body cladding fended off with ease. Plus it is almost impossible for some moron at Walmart to door ding with the cladding. To each his own but they just look sort of wimpy without it. :D
roachman 09-24-2003, 07:50 PM Thanks for the input on the Avalanche... I have been getting a lot of S%$T about buying one...
I will reconsider the body cladding.. Thank again,
Roachman

i may have another one day .
it is a good touring car.. fun on the winding country roads of WV

Chrisbert 09-30-2003, 03:06 PM I think SteveT needs a couple more cars! Dang, what a sweet collection!!!
Steve T 09-30-2003, 06:21 PM Chrisbert - Thanks...It is really more of an “accumulation” than a collection.
mikeb 10-01-2003, 01:20 AM either way steve its awesome
TomsterRX8 10-16-2003, 04:16 PM I took an extended test drive of the 2004 Acura TL and was definitely impressed. Very nice looking inside and out. 5.1 channel DVD Audio, rain sensing wipers, bi xenon, 270 horses, blue tooth enabled (will display on the console who is calling if you own a bluetooth phone), etc. etc.
Ride was polite and comfortable but certainly no 3-series. I understnd the 6 speed will be more performance oriented.
All in all, very high on my list.
mikeb 10-16-2003, 04:38 PM rain sensing wipers--thats cool
acura is a great company IMO
