View Full Version : Mazda Tops Reliability Poll in UK Irish_in_a_RX8 09-23-2003, 01:45 PM In the UK, yes, but came first for reliability... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3131800.stm Ike 09-23-2003, 02:00 PM Heh, Ford is number 2 and Subaru is second worst... this goes against just about every J.D. Power and Consumer reports poll I've seen. Ike Wing 09-23-2003, 02:06 PM Ah but this poll seems to make more sense! Based on cost of repairs and number of break downs! The JD power is based on surveys that people fill out. Some people consider the smallest thing a defect and sometimes count it as 3 or 4 defects if they are all related. Like, oh my radio doesn't work, defect #1, my speakers aren't working #2, cd-player doesn't work #3 (ok this is extreme but I bet it happens). To me if I'm going to judge reliability I want to know if the car is going to breakdown on the side of the road, it is A LOT more concerning than say... my power seat was stuck for a second. blizz81 09-23-2003, 02:17 PM Heh, Ford is number 2 and Subaru is second worst... this goes against just about every J.D. Power and Consumer reports poll I've seen. While this study is by no means conclusive in any way for overall reliability, I agree w/Wing in saying the means seem to make more sense than JD Power & Associates. Not to mention the results of JDPA's have been just as amusing if not moreso. Measuring data within an insurance company for problems is a little less likely to be biased compared to polling owners, especially when things like "the cupholders are too small" are considered reliability/work quality issues (and "bad gas mileage" on Hummers, etc). edit: and I'm no u-r-a-bus follower, but... Subaru's dramatic fall, from 11th last year to 22nd this year, was largely down to costly repairs to the Impreza's engine and transmission units, with the average bill reaching £1,040. ...hasn't the tranny been a concern area for WRXs since their arrival on the US shores? mikeb 09-23-2003, 02:44 PM looks good to me |
