New Yorker 04-23-2007, 11:57 AM Mine usually come clean with ordinary car wash soap, a terry cloth rag, and a little elbow grease. If that doesn't do it, any metal polish—Simichrome or Flitz or NeverDull—works well.
NgoRX8 04-23-2007, 11:59 AM i just use metal polish. blue magic works well for me.
Nevr-Dull. Cheap, effective and lasts forever.
Ericok 04-23-2007, 04:04 PM If it's just the soot that your're trying to remove - Castrol SuperClean
Raptor2k 04-23-2007, 04:57 PM Blue Magic Metal Polish works for me
tajabaho1 04-23-2007, 07:24 PM I take the hand-dish-washer, and scrape that bitch clean!
alnielsen 04-23-2007, 07:36 PM I use a spray-on wheel cleaner. I clears the carbon off the tips, like it takes the brake dust of the rims.

x2. the stuff is great.. just be careful. it is damn strong.
beers
Stavesacre21 04-23-2007, 09:25 PM ironically, i've always just used car wash when washing the whole car. However, that stuff gets to me almost as fast as brake dust. When i'm just trying to polish it off from time to time, i just use armor all...always seems to shine it up pretty dang nice.
dbright007 04-23-2007, 10:32 PM Nevr-Dull. Cheap, effective and lasts forever.
+2 Eagle-one Nevr-Dull wadding - look brand new in about 2 mins.
Astral 04-23-2007, 10:49 PM English Custom Hot Environment Polish for the total win.. cleans up real nice.
Otherwise, wash with soap and water in between.

+1...............this stuff is great! I bought two bottles and it going to be a very long time before I use it up, even when doing the cans on the stainless cat-back every now and then.
Jedi54 04-24-2007, 12:18 AM English custom polish is freakin' awesome!

wisconsinben 04-24-2007, 09:09 AM +1 for ECP Great stuff! Took me a little over an hour to remove 3 years worth of soot.

Hot Chrome Environment polish. :D:
peterisurhero 04-25-2007, 07:43 PM does anybody know if these chemicals will work for the agency power exhaust tips? they are titanium sheets that are turning NASTY gold. i tried cleaning it with some stainless steel polishers but didn't work.
any ideas??
Jedi54 04-25-2007, 07:45 PM Never fear Peter, Jedi is here! :D:
Chrome Polish and hot environment is a superb chrome polish first and foremost.
It is good at removing bluing from chrome and gold from stainless exhausts.
Excellent polish for use on any metals that have to endure extreme heat
Here's the link for ECP: http://www.englishcustompolishing.com/usca/hotchrome.html
09Factor 04-25-2007, 07:52 PM I use Wenols metal polish. The red box, since the tips already have a polish to them.
I tried the wheel cleaner and didn't do much, just broke up the surface dirt.
this stuff also work on Ti tips as well.

Keep in mind that "BEFORE" picture was after only 2 or 3 months of having my exhaust. Imagine the difference it would have made had I waited longer...

Imagine the difference it would have made had I waited longer... :rock:Jedi, I noticed that after English Custom Polish, the tips stayed silver much longer than when untreated. Did you notice the same?
Jedi54 04-25-2007, 08:04 PM yup, one more reason I love ECP.

Brasso. Works great
BlueFrenzy 04-25-2007, 09:59 PM I find Never Dull to work great. here's a sample pic of mine. In hindsight, I shouldn't have used the flash on the camera as it throws things off a bit (does make the tips look dirtier in the first pic though!)
My tips are/were completely black coated. I somewhat got the black off but now the tips still have a black residue and rough look to them.
I tried wheel cleaner and then I tried rubbing and rubbing with Never Dull. They will not return to their chrome form. Is it possible to buy just new exhaust tips?
Tamas 04-26-2007, 04:46 PM Is it possible to buy just new exhaust tips?
Yes, it is (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=71545) :)
NoTears316 04-26-2007, 06:54 PM I use dish washing liquid. It works great.

Stavesacre21 04-27-2007, 06:47 PM I love the sparkling reflection off the tailpipe...it really does remind me of a dishwasher detergent commercial :D:
ninjarama 05-03-2007, 08:14 AM Product called MAAS metal polish cost about $3 @ Wal-mart in the household cleaning section =) Very easy to use and results are stunning! Removed years of grime and soot to a shiny chrome finish... very little applied pressure.
Aipex8 05-03-2007, 01:54 PM An '04 and you've never cleaned the tips!? I can see why you'd need to use some harsh chemicals. I wash my car weekly and always clean the tips with just soap and water.
