Are they using sensors in the roadway these days? When I was in Oz, speed cameras were triggered by slant radar, and when there was more than one car in the picture, it was thrown out because they had no way of proving which one had been clocked.

They would actually fine you for 13Km/h over? They must be hard up there. It's not worth their while here for anything under 20km/h over the limit.

Sensors in the road... that would explain it. I wasn't sure how they worked out that it was me and not the other car.

The ticket was $129 and 2 points. I got the photo by sending in $11 to the infringement processing bureau.

Hmmm.... cops who don't book you for speeding and hot chicks (so I am told). I'm moving to CANADA!

Each fine can attract a different number of points 2 for going a little fast, 3 a little faster, 4 for bad and so on.

We get a limit of 12 over a 2 year period...

You lose 1 point off your licence in Australia if you kill a politician while driving.

In Australia, each time you commit a traffic offence (speeding, running a red light etc.) you get a certain number of 'demerit' points chalked up against your drivers liscence. The number of points depends on the severity of the offence. eg exceeding the speed limit by >30km/h will cost you 6 points (I think). These points stay with you for 3 years before they go away. If your demerit points total reaches 12 points, your drivers lisence is suspended for 3 months.

It's a pretty good deterant against speeding, since most guys who can afford an RX-8 can also afford a $129 fine. But you can't afford to keep getting caught, because if you end up with 12 points, your '8 will have to sit in the garage while you catch the bus!

So you have a point based licence.... this is very hard..

oh my god.... I don't want this in Spain because I always drive at 130 km/h in an 80 km/h area , 90 km/h in a 60 km/h and at 190 km/h in a 120 km/h limited highway...

very very very hard and terrifying...

I always thought every demerit point was suppose to last for 2 years once taken off you.But only recently found out it is for 3 years.Wonder when they changed this?As I remembered when I got my licence some 20 years ago,it used to be only for 2 years.

You wouldnt believe how woefully inaccurate those things are. When you take into account scan rate, cutting accuracy, contact time, inductance variations, all told we're talking about some pretty wild variations. They're great for collecting statistics and obviously at intersections, but to say that their accuracy is good enough for speed enforcement is ridiculous.

I watched one measure a 16m truck at 4m long yesterday - impressive :o

They are stupid freeking idiots politians who let this happen. It raises an incredible amount of revenue. An absolute shitload. And they feed us this bullshit that it reduces the road toll.

So that range of accuracy effectivley puts DGW's speed somewhere beween 23.25
and 372 km/h ;)
