Got my Best Motoring DVD (finally!) for September issue.

Another battle, this time with the Mazdaspeed RX-8 against stock S2000, R32, 147 GTA and Integra (I think! They all look the same these Hondas.. lol)

Anyway, the RX-8 just left them all for dead! Closest behind was the S2000 but at around 2 seconds behind after a few laps!

I will rip the video of the battle later and put it up here like I did the last one. It's worth seeing!

Also, I was under the impression the Mazdaspeed RX-8 didn't really have any performance mods (apart from exhaust.. maybe intake?) but it's noticeably faster than the standard model which was passed by the S2000 on a previous battle like it was standing still, and in one of the clips, there's a small flash of flame out of the exhausts on the downchange! :D

Anyway, will put vid up tonight, and post the link. Think I know where I'm going to be spending all my "accessory" money though - sod the strakes!

Is this the mazdaspeed with only an updated exhaust or something else (blower/turbo, suspension mods etc)?

There should be about a 10-15hp gain from the exauhst at most? shouldnt make that much of a diffrence. IMO drivers make much more diff than anything else on track anyhow.

That's the question I had. This is the Mazdaspeed Spec-A. Which I presume is basically an RX-8 with all the Mazdaspeed goodies bolted on, and so far I don't know of any Mazdaspeed turbo/supercharger.

You have to see the video though - the car just waltzes around the R32 and GTA in the corners, taking an outside line quicker than they can manage on the inside!

We know from reviews (evo etc) that the RX-8 is a bit quicker round a corner than the R32, but not by that much.

My guess is the MS RX-8 has updated suspension, and probably bigge tyres? (I know there is a j-spec option of uprated shocks).

Oh yea, I know in standard form it wouldn't be running round them. The Mazdaspeed car has about 3 extra strut braces to stiffen the shell as well as lowered and uprated suspension. Also it uses Mazdaspeed Magnesium Alloys which seriously reduce the unsprung weight a fair bit.

But the difference is astounding!

Looking forward to the Vid.

I can see this car becoming a bottomless pit of spending over the next couple of years if Im not careful :D

i saw the video some weeks back now. keep an eye on the multimedia section of the forum, this was discussed at some length on this thread:

http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10083

it also lists the upgrades to the RX8.

EDIT: MarkW - you beat me to it!

Flames from a rotary's exhaust during shifts mean:
a) very rich A/F ratio
b) removed pre-cat and/or main cat
c) bigger diameter for the exhaust piping
Dont know the specs of the MazdaSpeed RX8, but the above should give you an idea.....;)

As much as I would like to, I think mine will have to remain stock for a while - the misses would not be very happy if I had to sell the house to buy all this stuff!

The other thread said about $12k for the changed parts.

I wouldnt want the bodykit, and on real roads for normal driving, I dont think I'd want severe suspension mods either.

Brake pads will get changed when they wear out anyhow.

Exauhst - dont think I could justify a new one before the old one was somewhat worn.

Cat - stays :( its on for a reason, and I'd rather not damage the enviroment - or risk a fine.

I just happen to have the video as well.

The tires are Neova AD07, I am not sure if they have it here in US but they r really famous in Asia.
