So my parents know some herb who is looking to buy an 8. Frankly I am jealous, because I doubt seriously he knows how the engine works. Anyways, they know that Im in love with the car and looking to buy one soon, and this guy supposedly said that (again with the power issue, sorry guys) mazda was recalling the cars because of the power problem. I realize this issue is causing an uproar here, but I just wanted to see if you guys knew if there was any truth to this.

Thanks

Jake

In other words, no. There is no recall. There would be major bitching going on if that where true.

Yea...I heard Mazda has decided to rip out the Renesis and try to shove a 5.3 liter motor in there. Then they will turbocharge the engine. They say we will get an estimated 850hp...

(Unfortunately, time will show the engine is too much for the mighty 8 and the whole car will implode dramatically)

I think I'll just keep mine safe and sound in the garage. :D

There is no recall, but rather was a buyback for cars purchased before a certain date due to Mazda overating the HP of the RX-8, which is down from 247 to 238. Some believe based on dynos that 238 is on the high side as well, but Mazda claims that low 6s 0-60 and mid 14s 1/4 mile are still what the car will run.

Slight correction, there was the OPTION for a buyback for cars purchased before a certain date. The alternative was to keep the car and accept $500 plus free scheduled maintenance for the duration of the warranty.

Guys, even though we know it was an optional buyback, many are hearing that it is a recall which doesn't bode well for Mazda if the general public thinks Mazda is already recalling the RX-8 because of the "unreliable" rotary engine. I have a buddy that is a Nissan Master Tech and he knows that I love the rotary engine. A few weeks after this buyback thing started, he calls me up and asks if it was true that Mazda was recalling all RX-8's because of a problem with the engine. He doesn't follow Mazda closely but hears a lot of rumors on a lot of cars and if he heard there was a recall, you know the average joe on the street will hear the same thing. I know Mazda is trying to keep this buyback as quiet as possible, but sometimes information will leak out and change to rumor and rumor can be worse than the facts on the street.

oh yeah i understand, i love the rotary too, and didnt exactly understand why they would be recalling it, it was just a rumor that i didnt really want to believe, but i understand it all now. I just wanted to make sure.

I'll assume your are not pulling my leg and tell you "flames" are hostile, arrogant, insulting posts. They are usually used by insecure, ignorant people that get a kick out of acting imature and firing people up. I think you'll find that at this forum most people don't do that just for the sport of it.

You'll also hear alot about "trolls" as they lurk about often. They pop up and cause trouble by saying stupid things to get attention. The moderators here have done a great job to clean that kind of thing up. My advice, ignore trolls and flames and maybe they'll go away.

Ike is back, buddy I thought you had abandoned us . Things sure were getting lonely around here. I would LOVE to know your opinion on the info bern posted, about the car shutting down on dynos due to the computer, thus making any dyno on the car useless!

Back on post, drive the car, if you like it, buy it!
