Hellllo all RX-8 owners. i was wondering if i should by the RX-8 for my first car. I know that it suffered a HP loss and that people are sending it back to Mazda, but i still love it. :D I get my license in november 2003. Should i wait for something else? (newer RX-8?) or buy some other car. (Possibly a Subaru WRX)

Buy the 8, in a heartbeat. I've owned a lot of fun little cars ('79 & '80 RX-7, MR2, BMW 320i, Civic, MBz 500SL), and this is by far the most fun to drive of the lot. HP loss, my ass: this car is as fast as I should be allowed to go. The steering/handling are unbelievable: I rarely go for the brake around corners, cuz it's just too damn much fun to just downshift, turn the thing and punch it 'round the corner. Just amazing.

And looks. If you don't want to see envy on the faces of random strangers who see your car go by, or get interviewed three times a day by passersby at gas stations and supermarkets, go for the WRX, dude. No car anywhere near this price has this much sex.

If you're lucky enough to be able to drive an 8 as your first car, you'd be nuts not to. IMHO. :)

O'course, waiting might pay off if Mazda follows up with a supercharged 8 anytime soon, but what're ya gonna drive NOW?!?!?

I own a Subaru WRX, and I also own a 400+ HP Subaru STi V.

I'm getting myself an RX8 this week. What does that tell you? Maybe it's because I love 2 stroke motorcycles, but I love the way the rotary engine revs and delivers power. One drive and I knew it was the car for me. :)

Only get the 8 if you want to be spoiled for every other car you ever drive.

If the RX-8 is a mainstay like I think it will be. You have the opportunity to make it your only car. First, Middle, Last. Once you get it and drive it, the only replacement would be another RX8, 9, 10. Lucky dog.

How old are you? Just getting your liscence? So, I'm assuming your young. If so, there isn't a better car out there for the money for a young guy. Everybody will envy you.

If you don't get the RX8, IMO, don't get the WRX either, spring for the STI!

I would get a really bad car... some old beater, for like $600 or something, to learn on...

Then i would get something a little better, then the 8. you dont want to ruin it...

it's like sex, almost. you cant just jump right in to the climax, can you? :D

Wish that when I had my first car I would have been able to afford something like an RX8 :(

If you can afford it - get it!

My advice would be to get something used and less expensive and performance oriented now to get some real world driving experience. Odds say you will be in an accident in the next couple years... Then if you hit 18 and still want the car, or another performance car, and haven't been booted off your parents insurance yet go ahead and get a nicer car. Get a MT for the used car and learn to drive it well, since the cars you like now really benefit from a manual tanny.

That's some good advice... I'm glad when I was younger I only had low-powered cars to flog around. I can guarantee you if I owned an FD or rx8 when I was first driving I would have killed myself in it.

Yea, get a old beat up car first. I still have my 1989 Toyota and I haven't gotten into any wrecks. My dad says he will buy me a new car next year because I have proven that I can drive decently. Graduation present :D
