I do that in the Fox Valley Stadium. We have a non point event coming up in a couple weeks, and the season starts next month. Check here: www.fvscc.com

the parking lot we got is not as big as others, so courses are pretty slow. There's a bigger club in Madison too, and then there's Milwaukee. I'm planning to go to Milwaukee a few times this year.

ok, I've seen 4 RX-8 within the past month while driving around town, and only of them look at me when I look to say hi. The last one I saw was yesterday, he didn't even turn his head stopping next to me at the light, and just took off on green like he has a faster car. sure. what's up with that?

I saw a black one (possibly you), a couple gray, and the silver one yesterday. I saw a red one parking at the mall, which could be from anywhere; and I know there's a red one local, because I saw him at autox last year, and I know he work in town.

Jay, are you coming to the lapping day at Shawano on th 13? Not very fast since it's a cart track, but lots of fun. Cheap too.

I can spot you on the helmet, can't help you on tires though. What better way to finish off the old tires :mdrmed: PM me know if you like to come watch, we can head up there together.

It'll be busy getting the car ready...need to install new pads, flush the brake fluid, set the alignment, amount other things...Just need to take it easy on tires. I don't have money for tires now and my fronts are about time :icon_no2:

I spoke to Troy (he's running nthe event) He said that a M rated helmet is OK as long as it M2000 or better. They may even let you get away with a M95 rated helmet. I think they are having a hard time filling the event up.

Still looking - I'd prefer a 05 Ti-Grey. I'm stopping by Don Miller for a test drive and only a test drive - their single used 8 is a 05 Brilliant Black MT GT w/14k miles with a window price of $27k. Not a fan of that price or the GT trim (specifically leather & moon-roof). A prefunctory search of ebay, autotrader, etc., has shown me that there are private party 05's out there under 20k, so that's the direction I'm headed.

You know what! The car (6-speed winning blue) I just bought from a private owner named Frank in Stougton with the snow tires also came from that dealership. I originally did not want the snow tires and it turned out that the extended warranty that he had advertised was not transferrable so he gave me the tires with the sale. Poor guy paid for that warranty and got nothing out of it. Wonder if the dealership had mentioned the restriction to him. You guys get RX8s in quite a bit?

That's to bad, but I do want to check it out when your done. I used Meguiries three step (clean, polish, wax) after I clayed it. man the paint was smooth after that. The only reason I didn't go with Zaino is the time it takes:Eyecrazy:

Yeah, I got the ZFX accelerator, the cure time is ridiculous otherwise. Now I just have to ignore the orange peel in the clear coat.

Oh, and wish me luck tonight - friggin' weather.com is saying that my area has a chance of "large hail." Hail damage the first week that I've owned my car will not please me.

Must have installed an exhaust then?

Exhaust is on my short(ish) list of mods to do next year. My 8's going into storage for the winter and while it's stored I'm sending off my PCM for the Racing Beat reflash. I also plan on getting a new clutch and the RB flywheel to be installed next summer, hopefully by MazdaManiac & crew @ their new shop in Phoenix - my sister lives there and I'll be visiting her, so I thought I'd get some modding done while I'm there :) Until I checked out the DIY for installing a clutch I had vague notions of doing it myself. Yeah, nooooo thanks!

For now I've been satisfied with appearance mods - strakes, clear corners, and just this week Evo-R eyelids. I can't express how much I love them!

That's when you take traction control off...I had to do that to get myself onto the driveway. The TC won't let the engine go above 3000rpm with the rear spinning. Otherwise, keep it on, make life easier in snow.

Even my Subaru AWD has issues with more than 4 inches of snow, but I was more concerned about regular light snow and slipperly road conditions. But it's great to know from you guys how it really feels with a RX-8 during winter since winter months in WI seems to be my only deal breaker I had for this car...I don't think it's no longer an issue, now it's matter of finding a 06/07 8 for me! :) thanks!

Yeah all this rainy weather is cutting into the quality time with my 8. The stock tires are definitely not the greatest in wet weather, especially because I have a base 8 without the DSC to save my butt if I lose traction.

The other day I happened to catch a bit of the Generac 500 (i think that's what it was) and they mentioned that it was at Road America - made me wish I had gone out there - the track looks very nice. It'd be even better if Mazda would loan me a 787b to drive :)

RWagz
09-01-2007, 02:43 AM
For now I think we're setting up a one-time thing, but it could easily develop into a regular meeting if things go well.

I've started a map that will put a marker on each member's location. If you want to add yourself follow this link. (http://www.communitywalk.com/racine/wi/wisconsin_member_locator/map/159826)

At the top, there's an "Add Marker" button - simply click this, and find the city/town/whatever that you live in/nearest. Add yourself to the map.

If we get a good idea of where people are at we can have a good visual reference as to where to set up a meet.

Edit: I've added a few of the people who've expressed interest who have a location listed in their profile.

Nick R

The Madison club is having an autocross at Miller Part on the 21st (http://www.madisonsportscarclub.com/autocross/schedule/), how about making that a meet?

Shoot, I'd show up but I've got a 3rd Gen Eclipse rally on Sunday. Hope you guys have a blast. I'm definetly going to make an effort to make meets next year.

The man who run the show says this about the location:

"I think its called the Dodgers/Mets lot. Its the same lot all the Milwaukee clubs use. If you look on an overhead sat photo you can see which lot has all the tire marks."

So nobody get lost Sunday!

I guess I did ok. Got the Z on my last one, so we had a RX-8 1-2. It was mostly s2000 and Sti/Evo that got us on raw time. The car is certainly capable, I just needed more bravery :)

It was a great day, nice meeting you guys.

chetrickerman
10-21-2007, 09:42 PM
yea, eric did better, no offense, but he had the evos and sti's beat, the only ones he didnt beat were the v8 porche, the grey project car, and the vette. oh yea, the go cart too, that thing was badass, the best time all day. 59 sec

None taken. I can make all kind of excauses: he has wider/newer tires, lighter wheels, lighter car, blah blah...but let's just say he drives better. He's been beating me all year long, I only got him once.

chetrickerman
10-22-2007, 10:45 AM
i think the lighter wheels has a lot to account for him beating you, 1 pound of unsprung weight = 4 pounds, and those rims are only 17 pounds, so he took 80 pounds off his car, and he seems like he is a little more experienced

Yep...perfect day for a great event. The two 8's did a stellar job. It was great seeing them negotiating the course almost flawlessly, minimal body roll, all four tires firmly planted around each corner, and in basically stock trim! We had a brief discussion with the lone Nissan Z driver there and asked him if he had done any mods to his ride. After about the second paragraph of engine and suspension mods, my eyes glazed over! And somehow it seemed he was in the same class as the 2 stock 8s. And by the way, my informal timing put the 8s consistently even or 1-2 seconds FASTER than the Z-car!

Great day for the 8s! :ylsuper: :bluesuit: :ylsuper:

Late response - great day on Sunday! Nice meeting you all gear heads. The 8s were looking sexy. I can learn so much more from you guys. Just decided I will put away my 8 for the cold this Thanksgiving. Oh yeah, my bf found out he cannot use the snow tires coz they are too wide in the back to clear on a bump. Guess now I gotta sell them. More info later.

If we do meet, I'll have my 5-spd Mustang instead of the 8 because it is now stored for the season. The RX8 is about power of the rotary, and also handling, coolness factor and appreciation. Damn, I love my 8 and I miss it already.
