Well finally picked up the final piece of carbon fiber for my exterior in the form of a carbon fiber trunk. Some of you guys may not like it, but I think it ties in perfectly with my overall theme, not to mention it only weighs 7 lbs. Yes boys and girls 7 pounds.

yes, it weighs in at 18lbs, pretty light to begin with, but 18lbs vs. 7 lbs. do the math.

its from seibon....the fit is ok...it can sit a little lower but cant expect much from cf trunks and hoods

on a car I dont think anyone could really take advantage of a 11lb weight loss but that combined with the 27lbs I lost, thats almost 40 lbs less driving around =)

as far as the install goes, ngorx8 helped me out with it. It took only 45 minutes to do. real easy.

in this case, not only was it done for aesthetic reasons, but to help assist my never ending quest for lightness, heck, if our cars cant make that much power, i'll make the power to weight ratio a little bit better.

How much weight would paint add? I never liked the bare CF replacement part look, and so I would definitely paint any part to match. I am a sucker for lightweight though...

Sorry if i made that sound confusing.

The carbon fiber hood is only 1 lb lighter than the stock hood.

The carbon fiber trunk is 11lbs lighter than the stocktrunk+wing.

The 27lbs was pertaining to my personal weight loss =) hahaha

good question, i would have liked to go wit ha vented hood but I wanted to retain the stock clean subtle look. The varis hood was something I was considering but I love the lines of the rx8 too much to alter them. =)

no, don't do it, black roofs look like shit, maybe if you painted just the center top between the weather strips maybe then, but something like that picture, thats a hell no.

so, i leave the 2 weather stripes as ti gray? and i am thinking to paint the front bumper part to cf color like chrism's 8 just to match the cf hood. so it should look something like the first pic except the bottom part of the front bumper. :)

yea if you do it just paint the center top, not any of the door pilars, that looks much better than the whole top half painted (which looks like ass).
