yes, this is exactly how the recent craiglist home robbery scam was done. Post fake ad, have people rip the house apart.

Most spammers are not amatures who are sending their first email message out. They've done it for a while, they've got dozen's of computers running, and they don't personally sell anything. They just get a cut of the profits. So I doubt you'll get in touch with the spammer even if he really gave out the phone number.
