View Full Version : Accessorieslist is on website
Sexy Rexy 09-18-2003, 08:54 AM Guy's,
Have a look at the uk 8 website - accessories list & pricing is available under latest news. Some GOOD news at last.
RX-Late 09-18-2003, 09:01 AM I'm not so sure that this is all good news. Seems expensive to me.
On another note which do people think will look nicer to polished or brushed aluminium fins and crests? These are the only extras I think I will be able to afford.
morganrogers 09-18-2003, 09:24 AM Ouch !
Not cheap are they....
A couple of accents , some bonnet dampers (for those oil checks) and a set of mudflaps will not give much change from £500 ! ! !
Sorry - but I will be spending less on the back of this.
As I have said previously , if the accessories were sensibly priced I would buy more.....
Oh , and brushed I think.
M.

Well I could see the list earlier, and now it has gone.
Have mazda pulled the price list ?
I did get a print out earlier, and I have to say the pricing is absolutely outrageous.
Titanium Grey 09-18-2003, 10:29 AM Let's hope someone posted the old list by mistake.
sixspeed 09-18-2003, 10:44 AM Gone :(
JBJ, can you scan that printout and post it up :p

MarkW 09-18-2003, 01:10 PM I was told I was going to be emailed the Accessories PDF file today and it didnt turn up. Given that, and the fact it went on and off the website may mean there was a last minute hitch.
The prices RX-Late had posted seem a 'little' cheaper than some of the ones announced at the roadshows, but not a lot. :(
mr_digital_uk 09-18-2003, 02:54 PM Mazda ... you are having a laugh!!!!!
£65 for a key case?!
£190 for a passenger foot rest!!
£200 for a couple of bits of alluminium scuff plates?!?!?!
Crazy Crazy prices for stuff that costs hardly anything.
The only thing on the list that looks reasonable is the bonnet dampers for £100
Sell this stuff at half the price and you'll probably get 10 times the customers ... Given that the margins must be 80%+ you will be quids in (actually 3.75 times more margin)

Thanks for saying exactly what I was thinking Mr D.... I didnt want to sound negative!
Come on Mazda - £225 for a set of 4 mudflaps! Can I have mine without the gold plating?
crabacle 09-19-2003, 12:03 AM Has anybody noticed the Smartnav Satellite Navigation System priced at £649 - what's all this then??
morganrogers 09-19-2003, 02:16 AM Something funny going on here again....
I got a copy of the price list too - but it certainly disappeared a bit sharpish. I think it must have been the real one though , as the prices were reduced (by about £5) in some cases from previous prices I have seen.
Disgusting ! Disgusting ! Disgusting !
Unfortunately , it will be essentials only for me on the basis of this price list.....
Maybe the prices will come down when Mazda realize that most people only buy 2 or 3 items per car and the stocks start to pile up ?
------------
As a footnote , I am quite happy at the moment with everything else - the car appears to be everything I wanted (If I wanted pure performance I would buy an Evo) and absolutely unmatched in the marketplace today. And of course back in a rotary will be heaven ! BUT...... the fly in my ointment is these accessories.

This is the trafficmaster navigation system.
http://www.smartnav.com
It slots into the spare audio system slot. When you want directions you press a button which connects you via its inbuilt gsm to an operator who takes the details of where you want to go. They calculate directions which are then downloaded to your car. It then gives you voice directions (no screen). Very, very simple to use. costs 120 quid a year subscription or 89p per journey.
It has had very good reviews (i think it was autoexpress gadget of the year). Base cost for this unit is £500, so mazda are charging £149 for installation basically.
JamesRX8 09-19-2003, 04:56 AM These accessory prices are outrageous.
£130 odd for an alloy fuel filler cap! Think I'll prize the one off my TT and give that a whirl
IIRC the most expensive Tracker option doesn't cost £1,000 quid from anywhere other than Mazda either.

RX-Late 09-19-2003, 06:43 AM Some members have questioned why many are so negative, and rightly so. However, you can understand it when Mazda do silly things like this.
druck 09-19-2003, 07:48 AM First; the only accessory I really want is the hoop spoiler (as can be seen on the US and Canada RX8 sites) and that isn't on the UK list. My dealer says there is quite a bit of demand for it, but he doesn't have any information on if it will be made available.
Secondly; the two tone red leather steering wheel is down as an accessory, but no one seems to be able to confirm if this is included if you have ordered two two red leather seats.
Lastly; the prices are RIDICULOUS, most of these items are tiny pieces of painted plastic or metal, and should not cost more than a fraction of those amounts. I think the RX8 looks great without most of the stuck on plastic parts, but I might have been tempted to drop a hundred or two on some garnishes instead of a personal plate, but that buys next to nothing on that list.
I can only hope the list has been withdrawn from the website, while some slaps some common sense in to the pricing structure.

MarkW 09-19-2003, 08:44 AM The list was pulled due to the fact that the price of the RX-8 Key was incorrect.
I have a copy of the official accessories price list that I got from my dealer at lunchtime, and scanning through it seems that the prices that RX-Late posted are in fact, correct :( :(
(apart from they key which should be £69.95)
All I can say is that Mazda missed an opportunity here, and I will no longer be considering ordering the majority of the items I wanted.

Should have known the price wouldn't have been less than previously published!
MarkW 09-19-2003, 10:04 AM I have a copy of the accessories pricing in PDF format. If anyone wants it then email me, and I'll mail it back to you.
It should be back on the website later today anyway.
On a positive note, Mazda say All prices include parts, painting (where neccessary) fitting, labour and VAT.
AnilS 09-19-2003, 10:14 AM Mark, if you order the rear parking sensors, YOU will have to pay for them to be painted. Dealer reliably informs me, which is different to Deby's email a while back. Go figure.
AnilS.

Online the key was listed at £64.95
So let me get this right. Mazda pulled the list because the prices weren't high enough !!!!!!!!!!
That is the funniest thing I have heard all week. Excuse me while I go and cry myself to sleep..........
Lucozade 09-19-2003, 12:20 PM Ok, I've read through the price list of the accesories. I am totally disgusted by the prices quoted.
Does anybody fancy joining in a letter to Mazda making our feelings known about this and that we should be offer ed something a bit more substantial for the delay of our cars and drop in HP?
See now I'm getting negative!
What do you think?

It's all up on the website now for your enjoyment and dissappointment.
DannyA 09-19-2003, 02:06 PM OMG
I read that they pulled the list because the price of the key was wrong but I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that the £69.95 originally quoted was too low!!!! 80 quid for a key?!?!?!?!?
On a lighter note I am happy because I was walking down Great Portland Street in London this afternoon and about 5 minutes after wishing I would see my very first 8 on the road I saw one!!!
Who says dreams don't come true?

mr_digital_uk 09-19-2003, 03:26 PM Folks,
We should point Mazda at their parent site's accessory pages ... Accessories for the Ford range are less than half the price of these.
How do they justify that?
rich606 09-19-2003, 03:47 PM Hecky thump!!!!!!!!!!
No wonder the bloody car was so cheap!!

dave we could set up a trade system! many of us in the states would love to have a lip spoiler, like the ones that are standard fit on your cars, but it is not yet available here. now, i can get my hands on the loop spoiler easy. if you could get me a lip spoiler in sunlight silver i could get the loop in the color of your choice. we would have to work out the difference in price, but i am sure we could do so by one of us paying for the shipping :)
mr_digital_uk 09-20-2003, 03:02 AM Anyone know what the sports exhaust is? Does it sound different or is it just slightly larger/longer tail pipes?

Dunno, probably just sound as it doesnt mention anything about performance. I think I'll wait to see what else comes out.

Sounds like a good idea, except that the lip spoiler is going to come in the colour of the car, which in my case will be velocity red!
I'm sure a pair of people with matching colours could do a swap.

I was interested in this also. Perhaps they are not offering it because of the 4 holes that will need to be taken care of.
RobDickinson 09-20-2003, 11:14 AM Utterly disgusted with the prices, wtf are they thinking?

And the KEY??? and they have the balls to charge for the leather case extra!

We should have guessed this was going to be the case.
I would have bought quite a few things if the prices had been reasonable. As it stands will probably bite my tongue and order the strakes (whatever they are called), bonnet dampers and the crest from the front of the car. Total price: £344.86.
Would have considered: fuel cap, b-pillar crest, air vents and leather hand brake.
I wonder if the dealer will throw in a set of mats? :)
RX-Late 09-20-2003, 11:26 AM Oh yeah, some guys selling rx8 valve stems on ebay for only $16 dolars + postage. Might get a set of these as well.
garygfx 09-21-2003, 08:55 AM Are the bonnet dampers the same as gas struts? I think someone asked the same Q earlier. In another thread someone from the US said gas struts made his bonnet buckle (or dent, or something) it's made from light alluminuim so the regular oil checking took its toll.
According to the price list the MP3 CD Player upgrade costs £300. Surely they can't ask for that if you've got the high powered model with 6x CD changer as standard? The value of a 6x CD module can't be any less than a CD MP3 player.
To an outsider it seems that Mazda have tuned their prices for the purpose of extorting extra dosh from loyal RX fans. It's a bit like official Robbie Williams or Man U shirts costing double the price of other similar quality products. Taking the p**** in other words because they're pining their hopes on an established fan base.
Would fitting your own accessories invalidate certain aspects of the warrantee? e.g. if you add your own and a year later a coincidental problem develops within that region of the car but you know it has nothing to do with your accessory, will Mazda be able to wriggle out of a repair?
Lastly, for those who haven't yet placed an order, what are the chances of doing a deal on accessories with the dealer at the time of purchase? I don't know how generous dealers are when it comes to obtaining orders for a model that hasn't been launched yet. There must be a huge profit margin looking at the prices, thus plenty of room to negotiate if they really want a sale. I guess one just has to try! Don't ask, don't get.

Thats the conclusion I've come to. I would have been quite willing to spend a few hundred more on some items to make the car more individual (mainly interior, as I think sticking extra bits of plastic on the sides doesn't do anything for the already superb shape), but after seeing the p**** take prices I've decided against all of them.
I suggest that anyone who is tempted waits a few months and see what comes up on the after market, I suspect other firms will be falling over themselves to make tiny bits of ally such as the strakes and rotary highlights, selling them for far less than Mazda and still with a markup of several dozen times. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is anything painted, as it will be tricky to match the mica paint.
The prices of the accessories does worry me to what the cost of the spares will be like. How much will a cracked headlight glass be? And with the price of the tiny bits of stick on plastic, god help you if you need a new bumper.
Cheers

Doctorr 09-21-2003, 09:34 AM Mr. RXLATE is right, the guy on ebay who sells the rotary valve caps makes them on a 'CNC' machine, (whatever that is!) and is currently working on copying the strakes.....
That is where mine will come from. I did order some valve caps, nice finish, better than I would expect from a 'milling machine'.

Thanks Doctor - The price of these seems reasonable and he has quoted $6.50 for shipping to the UK. How does the workman ship compare with the genuine Mazda products? Are they exact copies? I take it you are happy with your purchases?
