Has anyone removed these?
They seem to be glued REALLY well.
If you have removed them (or attmpted to), please tell us.

Gone.

Acetone.

I always keep the visors down, and they show as yellow blobs on each one. However, they did leave a slight yellow stain....I'm working on that.

Is it a legal requirement to have those warning stickers if you have an airbag system in the car?

I know no one would ever give it a second look, but I was just wondering if they were.

GOO-GONE (tm)

Orange oil based adhesive remover. Took some work with cotton balls... but once a little corner was up, the rest was easy. It doesn't stain... just makes your car smell like the citrus section of a produce market.

I like the goo gone approach. I hate those stickers. I wound't like a lingering smell though- WOuld it make sense to take the visors off and out of car before treating with goo gone, then washing off really well? or is that too much work. Did the smell ever leave? Everyone comments on how great my car smells with the leather.

gosh, i hope they aren't a requirement cause mine doesn't have em. maybe dealer didn't have time to stick em on, i basically took the car as soon as they were done with PDI.

The orange smell vanished after about 48 hours.

Goo gone works well for that stuff, so does "oops". I had the same crap in my car

I guess you are lucky cause everyone else has yellow residue under their stickers

damn... they just peeled off with no residue? Mine were freaking super/hot glued on and I bent my thumbnail back trying to peel the sucker! Goo gone worked great... as usual. And it cleaned up the adhesive really quickly... just smelled strong for a few days.

Another approach so that you don't have to look at the stickers is to simply cover them up. I velcroed on a pair of visor CD holders.

Increased storage space. Increased aesthetics. No smell. Cost <$10.

Now that gives some stupid a$$ thief even more reason to break into your ride...but hey thats cool...

Also if more of you plan to do this with adhesive remover...do it NOW>..i heard that they are stopping production and removing adhesive removers from shelves due to it's highly explosive nature...heard this from a friend in the FBI..it's part of this whole new Homeland Security BS stuff...

Acetone worked great to remove the ink from the stickers. Now I have clear stickers on the visors that won't come off.

I thought about going to the local instant sign place and getting 2 small squares of matching grey vinyl and just sticking them on top of the yellow ones. Mine are almost like silk screened on, no edge to even get under to start peeeling off.

I tried to remove my driver side sticker
bad idea
I used goo gone and acetone with a razor blade and it didn't move at all

I ended up buying two stickers to cover the driver and passenger stickers

You have to alternate between Acetone and GooGone to get the stickers completely off. I had to alternate back and forth between acetone and GooGone about 10 times before it all came off... acetone would melt a layer of the sticker, GooGone would remove that layer, acetone melt, GG remove, melt, remove, melt, remove...

Big PIA, but worth it when done.

Could it be that there are two types of stickers? It seems as if some folks had "stickers" while the rest of us have "silk-screen" - like labels that are darn - near impossible to get off. I have the latter and have had no success. Does anyone know of some thin-profile flat-panel speakers that can be mounted there? ;)

I had the silk-screened versions. They really will come off with alternating acetone and goo gone, as I described above. You just have to be patient.

I had the silk-screen type and removed them using lacquer thinner.

1. Removed visors from car and took to work bench.

2. Used paper towel to soak labels with Lacquer Thinner until they started to bubble up.

3. Used an old (well worn, no sharp edges) putty knife to scrape of label.

They came off clean.

Hey guys, Mine had the "silk-screen" caution labels and I removed them with "OOPS" and a paper towel. Put the OOPS on the towel and rub. You will have to repeat adding OOPS and changing to a clean spot on the towel, but mine came right off. I took the visors out and did it on my workbench. Took about 20 minutes total including R&R of the visors. Clean as a whistle too, no discoloration, odor, or other side effects. Can't tell they were ever there.

That sounds like the best *solution* yet.

If you're like me and never tried the stuff before, here's a link I found with a photo of a can of Oops:

I haven't tried it, but on the PT cruiser, the accepted practice is to heat the sticker with a hair dryer and once the adhesive is hot, pull the sticker off slowly. And if the adhesive doesn't come off - nail it with the goo-gone. I would recommend against Goof-Off. That stuff is junk compared to goo-gone in my experience. It smells aweful and doesn't work nearly as well.

DaveT

The point being that there seem to be two versions of these warning labels. One is a sticker, the other silk-screened (painted) onto the visor. Better determine which one you have before toasting the visor. The "OOPS" works on the silk-screened version. See my previous post on this thread.

I did it today.... Just used "Goof Off", took approx 45 mins for each one and an arm workout and a half! Really have to stay with it and it looks brand new with NO DISCOLORATION!

I had the silk screen version and I had to use volitile chemicals which probably took 2 years off of my life from the fumes. I wish I would have heard and tried this "Oops" stuff first. Oh well.

I just did this today- I bought some goo-gone, and found some old acetone based nail polish... and after 10 minutes of rubbing I wasn't seeing any results. I also tried paint thinner, which also did nothing.

Finally, I looked under my tool bench for other solvents and chemicals, and decided to try some brake parts cleaner. Bingo! This stuff ate through the silkscreened ink with about 2 minutes of rubbing with a wadded up paper towel, and did no damage to the plastic. It also has very little smell to it while using it, and zero smell after it's wiped off (just to be sure I got it all off, I used a couple of alcohol wipes on them)... and they look great now!

If anyone wants details, the stuff is called Pyroil Brake Parts Cleaner. Just be sure to wear gloves- this stuff found a cut on my finger and stung like hell.

I have the stickers that seem to be like an iron-on - impossible to peel off like a stickers. After reading all of the previous posts - I settled on the Brake Cleaner approach. Whoever posted that is a life saver. I took an old rag and simply sprayed the brake cleaner directly onto the stickers with the rag acting as a shield from overspray. They came off in only about 30 seconds, with very little rubbing and no smell.

It would have been ideal to take the visor's out of the car, but they are hardwired into the roof for the visor lights. I didn't know an easy way to remove them so just went at it with them in the car.

Glad it worked for you... that stuff is a helluva solvent. As for getting the visors out, it does look like they're hardwired, but if you pull on the wires just a bit, a white wire connector pops out of the roof and you can disconnect them.

I use the brake cleaner approach today to remove these warning stickers. Makes the interior look a lot cleaner. Amazing how something so little can make such a difference. Would highly recommend using the brake cleaner. Simple and effective.

Thank you.

Dan, I wish I'd known about the brake cleaner approach when I took mine off. Goo gone and Acetone took ~15 minutes per visor, and while it worked well, it was a PIA. Worth it.

I also have to say - the silk screened type stickers SUCK!!!

Ok, I feel better now... :D

Ok, so I have only had it for 5 weeks and never thought about the stupid stickers other than thinking they were ... well stupid.

Now I have to go get them off as soon as I can. Just thinking about them not being there will drive me crazy until they are gone.

Off to the store for brake cleaner.

Any auto parts store carries it... also probably find it at WalMart, Target, etc. My Pyroil stuff came from Discount Auto Parts IIRC.

Went to a couple of stores, then called around and no one in St. Louis carries Pyroil Brake Parts Cleaner as far as I can tell. I tried another brand of brake parts cleaner, it didn't work. So I used the oops stuff, it took about 15-20 minutes each one but they did come off and no odor problems. I removed the visors from the car. This was the most labor for the least bang mod yet, but still worth it.

Didnt't have any brake cleaner layin around. Found a can of carb cleaner in the trunk of my mustang. Stuff worked like a charm.

Total time of 20min (accurately clocked) to get screwdriver, go downstairs, get cleaner, remove visors, remove stickers, clean visors, my hands and reinstall visors

Had the "silk-screen" type methinks. Was kinda cool, it just melted the sticker/silk-screen right off.

Lo0ks awesome ... its the little stuff that counts.

Thanks to all for the tips. Took off the visors and soaked a paper towel with carb/choke cleaner spray. Placed over stickers (silk screened I think). Waited about a minute and started rubbing. Viola! They came right off!! Total time invested about 10-15 minutes for both visors. Again, many thanks for some tried and true tips.

Thanks G8rboy. Got a new 8 in January, after about 3 days the labels were starting to bother me - I have the silk-screen, super bonded, PIA version of the label. Taking your advice I went to Kragen Auto this afternoon and got the Pyroil Brake Parts Cleaner. On the first one, I did not apply enought and I had to repeat applications and cleaning, alot of smearing of the ink. Here is what I came up after the 2nd one.

1.) Remove the Visor
2.) Spray the cleaner on the label. Let it dry, repeat this about 4-6 times.
3.) The label will blister and come off smooth as a baby's bottom.
4.) Remove the label and apply more cleaner using a soft cotton rag.
5.) Buff it out with the rag and your ready to go.

No damage to the visor, easy as pie. BTW, a friend told me that they used Brake Cleaner in Desert storm to clean their M16's. What's good for the 16 is good for the 8.

THX again bud ;)

BTW, it's also good for killing wasps and hornets instantly- took out a whole nest last summer with a single squirt : )

Hmm... so the question is for silk screens- Oops, brake cleaner, or Carb cleaner? I happen to have all three laying around so maybe I'll do a little comparison this morning. If only I had three visors..

Well guys I tested two cleaners: Oops! and Carb cleaner. I decided to do those two because the success of brake cleaner is pretty universal, and secondly because most people would more likely have carb cleaner rather than brake cleaner on hand.

The results? After 10 minutes of scrubbing with oops, i was finally getting some little holes in the middle of the sticker. So I decided to move on to the next visor with carb cleaner. After letting it sit on the sticker for 5 seconds, i wiped and all the ink from the sticker smeared into a grey goo! I basically just added more carb cleaner and wiped everything off. The one thing it didn't work too well for was the remaining residue and ink stains. This is where Oops! came in. So basically the visor I did with carb cleaner took me 5 minutes all in all. The one problem is those caustic chemicals tend to eat through plastic a little, and gave some very small portions of my visor a little less smooth of an appearance. Ah well, looks way better than those stickers!

Tamas

Brake cleaner did not cause any change in the surface appearance - the only effect was that the warning signs are completely gone.

I used some of my husband's carb/choke cleaner last night, and it came right off. The fumes are killer though, but no smell when I got in the car this morning. I'm pleased! Bye bye ugly warning stickers!
