I'm not sure there is a better way to describe this problem, but here goes:

New 2006 manual with MT handling package. About 500 miles on it. I notice when the car is cold, 1st gear pulls hard. I shift to 2nd, it pulls hard for a second, then seems to hesitate. It's still accelerating (just at a slower clip than before). This goes on for a couple of seconds, then back to pulling hard for a second or two. This hesitation can happen 2 or 3 times if I stay in 2nd. Upon shifting to 3rd, hard pull is back with no problems.

As the car gets warmer, the problem seems to drop off until it goes away completely when the motor is running for longer than 15 minutes or so.

Wacky? You bet! I can't think of anything "old school" (fuel filter, bad gas, etc) to explain it. Any ideas out there?

First of all let me ask u, how cold is your area ?

Cuz by default the ECU will *limit* the rev of your engine if its too cold, once it gets warm the lockout will be remove.

or maybe you fudged your tranny.

its the lock out. my car does the same thing when its freezing (around 40F to 50F degrees outside)

I guess it is possible that was the cause. We've had some cold mornings here in SE Georgia in the last couple of weeks where it's been down in the 40's.

No, I wasn't redlining the car right out of the driveway. By "cold" I meant it had been running less than 5 minutes, but more than 1 (it takes that long to get out of my neighborhood). My typical shift from 2nd to 3rd happens in the 5-6K range, so I didn't consider that a big problem even "cold".

Is there any indication that the rev limiter is active (other than the obvious loss of power)? It would be nice if I had some idea of when I should refrain from driving it like the performance car I supposedly bought.

What about a modified ECU to change the limit so that I can shift at 6K or lower? That would be even better. Does such a thing exist?
