View Full Version : How light is winning blue?
timmy 09-16-2003, 05:04 PM Hi,
I'm not sure if this question has been raised before, but it's regarding the Winning Blue RX8. I pre-ordered this coloured RX8, and am expecting delivery in December (can't wait ), however, after seeing pics on this forum, all the pictures of blue RX8s look a lot lighter than the sample colour I was shown in the show room (and on the internet page when I placed the order)
Obviously this is a very subjective question, but I was led to believe that Winning Blue was actually a dark shade of blue. I'm trying to find out peoples opinions on this as if I decide to change colour, I will obviously be adding a long delay to my order :(
Glad to read almost everyone here is over the moon with their new cars!!!
cueball 09-16-2003, 06:13 PM The winning blue is more of a lighter blue, but is stunning in person. So don't rule it out until you see it.
frankie 09-16-2003, 06:45 PM Winning blue is a great color. I am probably selling back my red RX-8, and one of the reasons is I prefer another color . Guess what? yup, winning blue and I've seen them all. I've had 5 new Mazdas, one of them a blue Miata. The winning blue is a couple shades darker and has a beautiful metal flake in it. It definitely is a winner. Don't change, don't cancel, you will love it. :D
ViviMiamiRX8luv 09-16-2003, 07:00 PM Hi,
I'm selling back my car also motivated by a different color preference. Are there two blues or one? I could have sworn that I saw a light blue one the day I bought mine and, recently, I saw more of a darker royal blue. If this is the case, and my eyes are not deceiving me...;-)) the light blue is VERY NICE!
I have loved my car, and I will be buying an RX8 again. Likely, the Titanium Grey 6 speed with "the works" if possible.
You'll love yours! Have Fun and be safe.

mikeb 09-16-2003, 08:06 PM If you get the chance you must see all the colors in person
I wanted the blue but when I saw the red I took it.
All the colors are awesome in person
HedgeHog 09-16-2003, 08:13 PM sorry but imho...it reminded me of a bottle of windex when i went test driving. :D the tit gray is my fave colour on the Eight.
missinmahseven 09-16-2003, 08:27 PM In sunlight it is indeed stunning. It glows, the same way Rosso Corsa glows. It has lots of zing. :D
I'm considering it for visibility and wow factor, or silver for stealthy and understated. Dunno yet.
In the dark, it looks like a very deep royal blue. It changes with light.
spdspappy 09-16-2003, 08:35 PM I think mine almost looks purple in the dark... I love the blue!!!
loco4rx8 09-16-2003, 08:55 PM It totally depends on the lighting. The Winning Blue is gorgeous and the fact that it changes color in different conditions really is a neat "feature."
Definitely see one in person before cancelling the order. The minute I saw it, I fell in love. And EVERYONE has commented on what a great color it is. I've not had one negative comment.
It's funny, I was desperate to decide between blue and Titanium before I got my car. I sort of did an informal poll of folks at work, based on showing them pictures of the two colors. Titanium gray won that poll by a landslide.
Yet, when they saw the Winning Blue in person, they all changed their minds. It really is stunning!
By the way, I still love the Titanium.
rxeightr 09-16-2003, 09:01 PM I would call my Winning Blue a 'medium' blue, not light or dark.
No one has commented when seeing my RX-8 that it looks bad. Quite the contrary.
So I pose this question -- Is there anyone out there who bought the Blue, and is disappointed?
rotorian 09-16-2003, 09:56 PM Not me! I love mine, and agree with all the comments about everyone who sees it liking it too.
The metallic is amazing. Get it, and then Zaino it, you won't be disappointed.
WTF no turbo 09-16-2003, 10:34 PM Almost a sissy blue during the day is kinda why i ruled it out.Close to WRX blue.Looks great at night though.
RotorGeek 09-16-2003, 10:47 PM The blue is similar to the Titty grey in that they change from light to dark depending on the lighting conditions. The red looks almost like a blood red in the dark and POW holy Sh%t red in the sun.
ectomort 09-17-2003, 01:22 AM I love my blue... the car arrests my attention whenever I can see it. I now have 5 coats of Zaino and counting.
mikeb 09-17-2003, 02:07 AM The red is nice at night but durning the day its just awesome
timmy 09-17-2003, 05:44 AM Thanks for all your input. I will wait until I see one in the flesh (just being in the UK, that will still be a couple of months off), I am just so surprised how different it looks in each photo..

for example.
Whatever happens, I just can't wait to get it !! Thanks again.
graphicguy 09-17-2003, 08:45 AM in bright sunlight, it looks lighter, but the metal flake really makes the car "brilliant". At dusk, or at night, the color looks like a "deeper blue".
Mazda has done a gret job with the paint colors and the paint application. All very good.
o_town_racer 09-17-2003, 09:15 AM I've never had less than 3 people come up to me while filling up the tank and comment on the car and the color. You'll love Winning Blue!
RodsterinFL 09-17-2003, 11:42 AM Ordered silver got BLUE after I saw it.
I have seen all the colors. The bright ones - yellow, red, and blue are each great and stand out - wild side sports colors.
The sedate colors - silver, black, titanium, and green are, in my opinion the harder choice colors - wall street sophisticate w/sporty side.
The forum banner of yellow and blue is pretty accurate.
The most striking colors are medium tones - they show off the lines of the car well in most lighting - red, blue, titanium. The yellow masks more of the lines but makes a vivid overall statement. Silver is bright but in some light the lines are masked. Black and green are the darkest, green the most unusual.
IN the FL sun the red and blue are STRIKING! The red is like light candy apple metallic with a golden aura (accent glow). The blue is wet looking with a silver/black aura.
Wish there was an X-men color RX8. Love that purple-blue color that changes from different angles.
mikeb 09-18-2003, 04:28 PM ditto

Before I saw the Winning Blue, I would have agreed with you. When I first saw the WB in person the depth of color my previous concerns about it being too light vanished. Winning Blue is more vibrant than the X-Men blue under various lighting conditions, which I personally prefer.
RodsterinFL 09-18-2003, 09:13 PM Have you noticed that the dark blue protege looks very similar to the X-MEN blue?
mikeb 09-19-2003, 01:36 AM yes
BEWARE 09-19-2003, 04:58 AM Winning Blue is damn nice....see one every day on the way to work...and when its sunny....woah!
BLUE PHI RX-8 09-19-2003, 06:56 AM I guess that you all know what color I'm ordering from my sign on. The blue is hot. Winning Blue, Titanium Grey, and Brilliant Black are my choices. Black probably would have been my secong choice, but I had a '90 MX-6 GT when I lived in Florida. It was a B#^@h to keep clean with all of the rain and the harsh sunlight. I was washing it 2-3 times a week and had to apply some type of cleaner and/or wax every other week.
I'm just waiting to see what Mazda is/will do about the lost 9 hp and reading all of the good posts here before I hit the send button on my computer for my configured RX-8. I've had it stored since January. and I usually like to wait until the second year that a new car has been out on the market before I bite, but this car is calling my name. BTW, where can I get the Zaino product from?
