View Full Version : Speculation on new Skyline price
toxin440 03-04-2007, 01:30 PM So... I'm usually not one to get all mega excited about an upcoming car but for some reason the new Skyline coming to the US in a year is getting me worked up and thinking.
I know this car is designed to compete with the 911 and I even read somewhere a Z06... cool. My thoughts right now are on pricing. I've seen estimates from $40,000 all the way up to $80,000. Which is making me wonder, if this car was in the $55K range thats about as much as I would ever go for my next car (factoring in the sale of the 8 as well)
But just was curious on what others thought the pricing would be. We all know that it's coming out under the Nissan badge in the USA here - and that got me thinking - under THAT badge I dont see how they could put a 70 or 80K sticker on a nissan here in the states.
All ideas and thoughts are welcome as long as you arent a dick about it :-)
Cheers,
Jeff
Fanman 03-04-2007, 01:55 PM I'm thinking $70K+. It is supposed to be a 911 TT/Z06 competitor, so at least near the Z06 price. Even if it was $60K, you can bet on massive markups.
BigOLundh 03-04-2007, 07:01 PM I tihnk the wide range of price speculation all has to do with markups. Wait a year and youll be able to buy one at a normal price.
Also, why would you want to be the test mule on the first run cars?
mysql101 03-04-2007, 07:06 PM Once upon a time, BigOLundh asked "why would you want to be the test mule on the first run cars?" on a forum filled with 2003 and 2004 RX-8 owners. Now that's a question I'd like to know the answer to.
;)
VarneyMazda 03-04-2007, 07:22 PM just wait.. its like the solstice and z06, mustangs of the first new body style in 05, way over priced and then the next year its easy to get them for a reasonable price.
mikeb 03-04-2007, 07:37 PM should be 70k
v6 twin turbo 400 hp
coming out early 2008
i will get one
therm8 03-04-2007, 08:57 PM I'm guessing sticker @ 65k. Dealer markups to 70-75K. I wouldn't spend that on a Nissan, but I guess some would.

i know they are the same thing, bu ti hear it may be a infinity :Freak_ani
Feras 03-04-2007, 09:38 PM speculation is inane. Someone's definitely gonna be wrong, someone may be right, regardless it wont matter because you wont know till you either order one or buy one.

Nah its already been confirmed that the Skyline is coming to the US under the Nissan badge

well thats good for sure
chickenwafer 03-05-2007, 01:15 AM should be 70k
v6 twin turbo 400 hp

I heard it will be 450-hp from R&T
I think it will have an MSRP around $60k. Dealer markups will be ridicolous. Like the Ford GT, MSRP is $156k, you couldn't get one for under $250k. That's just crazy. The demand will be higher than when the PlayStation2 came out!
toxin440 03-05-2007, 08:24 AM Hmmm if that scenerio were to play out (MSRP of 60K - which after selling my 8 and saving another 2 years or so I could actually afford) I would get one. However If the opposite happens, starting at 60 and being marked up by dealers I wont get one. Simply because Im never going to pay more then MSRP for a car.
My only hope is this:
1) The Silly boy-racers and ricers obviously can't afford one so that nixes quite a large market there.
2) The part of the population that CAN afford it are generally older late 20s early 30s and on.
3) In my mind around that time most guys are starting a family etc and wont have the money or freedom to purchase a skyline, so more skylines for me! hahaa
playdoh43 03-05-2007, 08:34 AM ive been following it very carefully at the g35 forums, its going to be somewhere between 65-80k starting price. its obviously going to be in the Z06, 911 turbo performance range because a 911 turbo always follows the mule around. japanese import usually cost more than domestic, so i expect it to cost more than the z06. most likely its going to fall in the hight 60k, low 70k range.
SilverStreak 03-05-2007, 08:39 AM Most recent Auto Week has some US spy shots and information. According to the report is sounds like it will be introduced as an Infinity.
jmerc 03-05-2007, 01:55 PM Most likely 70-80k, and I really hope they badge it as an Infiniti as new rumors have been started again, I will have to ask my friend at Nissan if he can tell me next time I see him, because their dealer experience in my time owning one of their cars has been fantastic.

dealers never find out about stuff like that before the internet, you will most likely find out about the official pricing via autoblog or leftlanenews etc well before your friend knows anything
chickenwafer 03-05-2007, 02:45 PM Badge it as an Infiniti?!?! I don't like that one bit- the Skyline is Nissan and always has been. I can understand if they put the Infiniti badge on it they can charge an extra $10k and will attract more affluent customers, but really, it's a Nissan and should be. I think they should make an Infiniti model based on the Skyline, say with a 4.5L Q45 V8 with 400-hp, AWD, and rear seats.
mikeb 03-05-2007, 05:22 PM guys
its coming as a NISSAN
SSpyder 03-05-2007, 05:49 PM I can imagine the aftermarket for this car, everything would be like 2k plus, even for something like exhaust, not to mension nismo parts. I'll think ill stick to detroit muscle if i want some hp in a ride. Other than that it will be a rare car.
my 2 cents
mikeb 03-05-2007, 06:50 PM this car is gonna be able to have close to 1000hp with mods
i hope you have some serious detriot muscle

You realize the Skyline has been here since 03' since they introduced the Infiniti G35 series. The Skyline has always been a four door vehicle over in Japan, its the GTR performance package thats made the skyline famous and that is what will be brought over now. However, this new GTR isn't even close to the old ones.

what difference does it make if its badged as a nissan infiniti or a yugo, if its got whats advertised it will rock with any badge.

My friend is not a dealer, he works at corporate.
:)
toxin440 03-06-2007, 09:48 AM i realize the "skyline" has been over here as the infinity G35.... i do like the G35 coupes (the 4doors to me are meh)
I would assume that if they put it under the infinity badge they could charge an extra $10,000 for it haha
playdoh43 03-06-2007, 10:43 AM hey toxin440
Ive always wanted this car BAD... but Im pretty torn about it, or leaning toward not getting one. From my financial advise thread it seems we are around the same age and income. To me, I want it bad, but a car is like a depreciating investment ya know? where investing the money in a house or other investments have the potential to appreciate over time.
Im torn between... If I get it, will I regret it later on seeing it as a very dumb way to use my money, 70k (pretty realistic price for the GT-R if it starts at 65k+5k worth of options like navigation etc+taxes and tag) turn into 40k in 3 years vs 70k invested turning into 100k+ in 3 years. It just seem like such a irresponsible thing to do.
or IF I dont get it, will I regret it later on? because you only live once, and you're only young once? Is there a price you can put on having fun with a GT-R while youre young with few responsibilities?
whats your take on it?
toxin440 03-06-2007, 11:33 AM well what im torn on is by the time the skyline comes out and becomes "available" to the masses without paying 10 or 20k over sticker.
A house in my future, would be nice I just got my 1st apartment ever and am enjoying that for a while.
What I'm torn between is (depending on my finances at the Skylines release) is trading in my 8 and plunking probably another 50K on top of that for a Skyline. OR going balls out nuts with a Mazsport Turbo + all the bells and whistles dropping $20,000 worth of work on my RX8 that would be ~3 years old and have almost 50,000 miles on it
To Sum:
1) say bye bye to 8, spend $50K out of pocket and get a new skyline
2) keep 8, spend $20K to pump my 3 year old (50K mile) RX8 up to near 400HP levels.
thankfully i dont have to worry about this for a good long while :-p
N rider89 03-06-2007, 04:59 PM too bad they arent making it with a true manual gearbox. they are using paddle shifters instead.
dillsrotary 03-06-2007, 05:49 PM what i'm looking forward to is seeing what some japanese tuners have in store for it, mainly Signal and Blitz (anyone remember the 213 mph dark grey Blitz R34 from sema??? i loved that car)
Sephiroth 03-06-2007, 06:03 PM too bad they arent making it with a true manual gearbox. they are using paddle shifters instead.
So much for getting it right. What is with this paddle shifter BS.

Choices, choices. I was just looking at a 2.5 year old 911 Carrera 4S @ ~$40k. Buy used, I say. Invest the dough for a couple of years then use the gain on the car. You avoid any 1st year hassles and the aftermarket will be fully developed. Win, win, win.
Smoke Honda 03-06-2007, 09:38 PM IMHO the new Skyline is going to be starting at 39,995 w/ the option of a premium system and Navigation. There's always going to be other trims right? It isn't all going to be GT-Rs I think.

GT-R is its own car, its no longer directly associated with the skyline.
the skyline is the G35... speaking of which, most mags are saying the new G coupe will likely be G37 with 330hp.
Smoke Honda 03-06-2007, 09:48 PM No shit huh? I've always thought they were going to a GT-S or something.

P.S. not to Dyno queen the car but to actually put hp to ground.
my .02 cents
Other than that Skyline would be just nice enough just to drive it stock, and god knows how much more they will detune it for US emissions

Yeah i saw that vid before...the ligenfelter group are sick!
1200+HP out of that vette.......rumor had it that the dyno coudn't couldn't read higher than 1200HP. Meening that Vette could be putting out a realistic 1300-1500HP!!!! That would give any heavily modded import a run for its money! :)
spork 03-07-2007, 10:32 AM what difference does it make if its badged as a nissan infiniti or a yugo, if its got whats advertised it will rock with any badge.
Service.
You get MUCH better service if you have a Lexus vs a Toyota. I think the difference between Nissan and Infiniti is also on the same level. I've heard Acura service isn't any different than Honda service, but I have heard Infiniti and Lexus are large jumps from their lower badges.
If you buy a $70,000, you expect better service. Yes Infiniti/Lexus/BMW service costs more than normal, but from what I hear you can't really beat their service. Ie loaner cars automatically and much less shadiness. 2 of the Mazda dealerships I've been to have struck me as being pretty shady.
jmerc 03-07-2007, 11:00 AM Infiniti service is great both on price and treatment of the customer. I always get a loaner even for an oil change, they always check for any problems, and if you have an issue with your car they try to resolve it as quickly as possible and call you before they do anything to the car. I have seen some dealers just do things without asking the customer first with other makers, or try to pull some BS you need this or that and we are going to charge you for checking something we were not supposed to anyway. And as far as prices they are not that bad at all, my oil changes on my FX 45 are only 40 bucks and the mileage services have not been at the most I think 300 for the 40k where they basically go over the car with a comb. So yea badging matters in this case, unless they handle GTR owners the way the Infiniti owners are handled.

It all depends on where you service your car. I've serviced my FX35 at 3 different Infiniti dealers but only got the service you mentioned at one of them, the one that I bought it from. But yeah, mandatory to get a free car wash and premium loaner if you bought a GT-R.

playdoh43 03-08-2007, 10:26 AM Who said so?

I was refering to the offering of a manual... if you had heard anything about being one offered or if that was merely speculation.
At least at release time... I seriously doubt there will be a manual. I'd put my money on a sequential transmission.
playdoh43 03-08-2007, 10:53 AM ohh ok, i havnt heard anything, i was just stating that there has not been any announcement where they said manual wont be offered either, so we dont need to act like there wont be a manual till we know for sure. I just think that Nissan usually offers manual with their cars.
I personally prefer paddles anyways

Weeell... Nissan makes a V8 full size truck and no manual on certain models.
They've gone CVT crazy on several models... although it supposedly makes the 4cyl Altima better at passing on the highway.
And... my source tells me that the engineers love the paddles... quick shifting and much better than what Mitsu is working on for the Evo X.
Japan8 03-08-2007, 11:09 AM BTW... I HATE paddles. absolutely 0 interest. No clutch, no buy.
