I just thought I'd share my gas consumption data. I've been saving the receipts since the car was new, and finally entered them into the computer for analysis.

Basic info:

06 MTX
Salem, Oregon
Purchased: 5/05
Average MPG: 19.7
Best MPG: 22.7
Worst MPG: 17.3
Standard Dev: 1.01
Best Month: August
Worst Month: December

Graphs of MPG over life and MPG by month

That tracks pretty much with my experience--20.76 mpg average for the first 13,400 miles over a 2 year period. Yeah, I don't drive it much.

You've never had a tank where you floored it most of the time? You're missing out if you don't do that from time to time. If you have, you still managed to get 17mpg?

I have 1300 miles now and I have never gone lower that 17.5 MPG, but my best has only been 17.9.

Got a track day coming up. I think it will be close to 7-10 MPG.

i get about 10 - 15, but i drive the hell out of it. i think i'm hooked on the rpm warning sound (like one of pavlov's dogs). And I don't really care much about the mpg. i didn't buy the car for fuel economy, i bought it for fun. if i had wanted fuel economy, i would have bought a geo or a hybrid.
i'm not opposed to the hydrogen fuel cell though. if it comes out as a mod, i'll take one ... at cost.

I highly doubt you will.

Unless you're okay with well under 100 hp to the wheels.

Mazda is leasing them in Japan, it's about $3500 a month. Still want one? :)

Wow after that I am glad to get an average of 19MPG. Of course, 90% of my driving is highway cruising. Great info though, thanks.
