most people use pictures of their cars that they resize to fit the avatar restrictions.

Then I think I had to resize it slightly. Use Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/) for that.

Animated ones are more complex. I'd suggest taking a picture of your own car, modifying it in Irfanview to fit the specs and posting that up.
