Final plans:

3pm-4pm: Meet and greet in the parking lot at the entrance to Portland International Raceway(Just look for Mazdas): http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&...&iwloc=addr (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&saddr=portland+international+raceway&daddr=&sll=47.15984,-122.387695&sspn=7.112374,20.34668&layer=&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=18&ll=45.596804,-122.6871&spn=0.001828,0.006781&t=h&iwloc=addr)

4pm-?: Drive East on I-84, to Cascade Locks (Past the main parking lot for Multnomah Falls)
Drive route: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&...p;z=10&om=1 (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&saddr=portland+international+raceway,or&daddr=cascade+locks,+Multnomah,+Oregon,+United+Sta tes&layer=&sll=45.56166,-122.404861&sspn=0.228836,0.635834&ie=UTF8&z=10&om=1)

Then drive West on Columbia River HWY back to the falls and Pointe Butte, which has a good parking lot for taking pictures. We will get back on I-84 West and hit an Applebees right off the 205 North freeway, 3rd exit after crossing into Washington.
Drive route: http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.ad...z=98682&r=f (http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?go=1&do=nw&rmm=1&un=m&cl=EN&ct=NA&rsres=1&1ffi=&1l=&1g=&1pl=&1v=&1n=&2ffi=&2l=&2g=&2pl=&2v=&2n=&1pn=&1a=50000+historic+columbia+river+hwy&1c=bridal+veil&1s=OR&1z=97010&2pn=&2a=5111+NE+112th+Ave&2c=VAncouver&2s=wa&2z=98682&r=f)

Additional info:

IF and only IF the parking lot at PIR is closed and/or not available we will be meeting at one of the parking lots on the other side of the freeway. '1bad3' will be up there at 2:15 or so, and he will pick where we will be if the main place is not available.

1bad3: " If the parking lot is not available I will make a trail to where we will meet. Look for yellow tape (caution tape) tied to signs. I will put it on the signs, hopefully from the off ramps to the location. I will park somewhere conspicuous. "

Run up the gorge, duh! We'll see about this one. The Shamrock Shuffle is the 25th, and it's very much in the other direction.

Wow - PIR is only 2 hours from my house...

PIR is a few minutes from my work and about 30 minutes from my house. I will try to show up. It would cool to meet up with other local RX-8 members.

When I saw that you guys had a meet the day after this one "I was like oh crap!" But this is a good alternative to those that can't go on the Shamrock shuffle.

We now have about 14 people signed up so it's looking to be a pretty good meet.

I may be able to make it. I usually work on Saturdays, but I'm trading days with a lady at work to cover her shift on the 25th, so I'm waiting to find out from my supervisor which day I get to switch for. Hopefully the 24th and then I can go. Otherwise, I only have Sundays free.

Edit: Even if I can't do a lot of driving (my arm) I would at least show up to meet everyone if I'm free.

This look like fun, I'll try to make it if I can. WA folks we should all meet up and convoy down to Portland.

I'm thinking even if I have to work that day, if I left there by 3:30, I should still be able to make it to work by 4.

I'm down. Why so late though? Why not meet before noon and go on a longer drive. 14 to Bridge of the Gods, back on I-84, then take the Columbia River scenic byway. I see the original post was edited, is there not going to be a drive now?

A lot of the members coming are not local, like me. I have to drive 300 miles and it will take me 4+ hours to cover that distance, so with it being later in the day it makes things easier on us non-locals.

Things are still in the air, so please feel free to suggest activities.

Since there are so many people going we could all split off into groups at some point and go for a drive/ do a test and tune/ go bowling..... that way everyone is happy.

*This is for the Portland members: Where are some good inexpensive places to eat? Are there any Applebees, TGI Fridays, chilli's or Chevy's around that area?*

Gee, I have driven up to the Seattle area ones and met up with that group by 10 a.m. It's not that big of a deal, really. :dunno:

My work schedule is a little crazy. I get done at one job at 1:30 and my next job starts at 4:00. I have this scehdule Tuesday through Saturday.

Unfortunately I have to drive through some mountain passes which can take 2+ hours to cover thought once I hit I-5 it's pretty much smooth sailing.
Though it's the people coming from Idaho who are the ones with the longest and hardest drive.

No sweat, I was just curious. Haven't been on a propper driver for a while, but I'm down for just meeting up too. The Jansen Beach shopping center is very near PIR, and I'm pretty sure there's an Applebee's or Fridays there.

I'd make the trip if there were an organized group run attached, but I'm not much for pure meet & greets.

No I'll be down for a drive, as long as there is an hour or two between arriving at the meet and when we go for the drive, In that quote I was explaining why the meet is later in the day.

I cannot make the Shamrock Shuffle on the 25th, so looks like I'll cruise down for the meet - as long as it is not raining - that is. :)

I'm going to miss this event because I will be in Texas for a family emergency. Hope everyone has a great time. One of these days I will make it out to meet everyone.

I'm totally out. My car is at the body shop. It skidded under an SUV yesterday.

The lady just slammed on her brakes and did a nosedive, I slammed on mine, lost traction on the wet pavement, and ended up about a foot under her back end. My car is the only one with any damage. Police said it wasn't my fault, though. :dunno:

I went. It was just me and a bunch of 3's (most of them Mazdaspeed3s!). The drive was fun, it sprinkled a few times, but the roads were dry. Thanks for representing the 8's guys! ;)

... The drive was fun, it sprinkled a few times, but the roads were dry. ...

Great shot of the Vista House. From the reflection of your fog lights that does not look like dry pavement to me! But that just means fewer bicycles and slow cars to worry about on the twisties. :Eyecrazy: And maybe some parking at the falls parking lots. :)
