Hi, I just bought a new MiniDV and was trying to do some recording while doing some mountain driving, but it seems that the human hand is not a very stable device.

Anybody know how to or what to use to secure camcorders while driving?

Thanx!

I lock mine in the trunk which keeps it real secure. :) Wisecracks aside, I trust it is your passenger who is filming during your twisties, right? My camcorder has digital stabilizer which takes all the shaky hands out of it. Handheld video comes out real good that way.

Tie it to the Passenger Head rest through the rotor crest in the seat.

You can get a mini tri pod that has either a couple of suckers to stick to windscreen od has a mini clamp attached (attach to rear view mirror)

have a look at this http://www.jessops.com/search/dointellisearch.cfm?node=340

You could purchase a couple of strips of velcro, but that could leave marks on the dash....and you get a lot of bumps......

There is a product called a CineSaddle...it's basically a beanbag that you rest the camer in......a quick search will find them...

then again, there's the old hand towel wedged under the glass and another on the dash to secure the camera...zoom zoom out to get the shot you want and have a blast...***and***...don't forget to turn the camera around and get shots of you doing the driving!!!!

thanx guys for the responses. And yes 8_wannabe, I did have a passenger that helped me held the camera. I guess only those one hand crazy japanese drifters can drive while holding a camera + open the damn door :P

hm, is there anyway I can secure the camera around the headrest without damaging the seats? I think it will have the best shots if I have it around the headrest area.

Thanx again!

You could try running some kind of bungee-cord suspension setup between both headrests. Might give you a bit more shock absorption for the camera, too.

honestly, I would just make the passenger hold it
