View Full Version : Explosion of Chemical Plant in Kansas City
Winfree 02-07-2007, 04:24 PM At 2:20 ECT an explosion occured at a chemical factory looks like North Kasnas City- most materials are petroleum disillates - no exotic toxins involved. A mile around is being evacuated by police, Red Cross setting up at nearby highschool - nearby bridges are being closed because of heavy smoke and falling chunks of styrofoam like carbon material. It is recommended that cars turn off external air and recycle inside air when passing through the smoke.
Looks like it occured in an area where gasoline was being transferred in railyard...
Anybody with more info keep us posted.
Winfree 02-07-2007, 04:33 PM Some barrels just blew and houses are now on fire....Fire Departments from other areas are coming in on this one. Cold temperatures making progress difficult
Winfree 02-07-2007, 04:49 PM Fire department now containing fire in some of the outbuildings. Air quality remains relatively good because of intense heat moving the plume upward in the cold air. People still being moved out. Rides provided by police and local buses. Debris continues to fall.
XDEEDUBBX 02-07-2007, 04:51 PM wowser, thats some serious shyt..hopefully everyone is ok..
Winfree 02-07-2007, 05:28 PM Workers at the plant accounted for, people in near by houses were helped out in time...a couple of rail cars blew up - filled with kerosene or something with burning characteristics like that -lots of heat - looks like they are going to hold the fire in and let it burn itself out - too dangerous to get inside at this time because of exploding 50 gallon drums - looks like it will burn itself out but people will have problems movng through the area on their way home tonight, and a big bunch of people will be camping out tonight - Red Cross is helping arrange shelter EOC coordinating will be a little rough but if they can keep the fire out of the houses things will be OK. Nasty as darkness set in...

Tirminyl 02-08-2007, 09:23 AM Crazy. I was working out when our lights started to flicker, then we lost water pressure. I then turned and found nothing but fire shooting out the building. Glad everyone got out ok. They deemed it ok to be within 2 miles of the area so I don't have to work out of our DR site.
RotoRocket 02-08-2007, 09:26 AM Wow. That's insane.
I wouldn't want to breath that crap or have it raining down on me, either.
Very insane, i live in springfield which is about 3 hours away from KC.
StewC625 02-08-2007, 12:14 PM Wow, thank goodness people take "this thread is useless without pictures" seriously.
It was probably the Mooninites.
Tirminyl 02-08-2007, 12:52 PM There were talks of a second explosion this morning but I think people may have confused it with a huge wreck that shutdown the highway and caused another huge cloud of black smoke from the same area! Insane.
Clavius 02-08-2007, 03:08 PM It was probably the Mooninites.
Damnit ya beat me to it!.. but I agree most likely those Mooninites they followed through on their threat of payback!
SHOWOFF 02-08-2007, 07:10 PM I'm in KC and I could see that shit from 10 miles away and the smoke was over my house which is 25 miles away. There was a news there was this dumbshit news reporter that was picking up the debris that was falling out of the clouds holding it in her hands and smelling it while telling people that they shouldn't breathe the fumes or handle any chunks that were falling out of the sky.
Dumbass.
