View Full Version : Barbaro Dies. Zio 01-30-2007, 04:24 PM Barbaro was put down monday morning. Clavius 01-30-2007, 06:39 PM No way.. they broke the knee caps first :rollingla Zio 01-30-2007, 07:02 PM Wow... Easy_E1 01-30-2007, 07:07 PM Could they not just clone him and have a new model down the road? WhiteDealershipRice 01-30-2007, 07:10 PM ^^ Zio: welcome to the land of the cynical, home of the flame. I've got to admit some of the replies were pretty darn funny. However, I have to wonder if the euthanasia was administered more for financial (insurance) reasons, than for a true humane desire to end the animal's "suffering" Notice they tried to repair his leg several times, and only decided that he was suffering too much after it was determined that he would not be able to run again. Wilson 01-30-2007, 07:11 PM They don't even allow artificial insemination. No way would they allow cloning for thoroughbreds. Besides, you would just get a bunch of ponies that break their legs and have to be shot in the head. Wilson 01-30-2007, 07:12 PM ^^ Zio: welcome to the land of the cynical, home of the flame. No. They determined that he would not be able to stud. Zio 01-30-2007, 07:14 PM A horse needs all 4 legs to survive. He had an incurable case of laminitis. otherside 01-30-2007, 07:31 PM Wow... I know, I know...I feel bad for the owners. But they probably should have done it in the beginning. A horse surviving a broken leg is extremely rare. Clavius 01-30-2007, 08:32 PM Its all lies.. he owed his bookey to much money and when he took a stand they did him in and did the classic cover up. They going to have a Barbaro special eddition dog food and Glue sale :rollingla Winfree 01-31-2007, 12:59 AM Could they not just clone him and have a new model down the road? Yes but it would be illegal to run the clone - one of those odd racing laws - passed a while ago to protect the sport and the breeders. Had they been willing, while the colt was still alive they could have taken sperm samples and used them to breed racing mules...fewer rules on artifical and experimental breeding. But horse had genetic flaw or would not have broken leg during the race - they would not want to pass that one on... Horse to be buried beside Swaps and other Derby Winners. Winfree 01-31-2007, 01:02 AM I know, I know...I feel bad for the owners. But they probably should have done it in the beginning. A horse surviving a broken leg is extremely rare. They were trying to save him for breeding - that is where the money is for these Derby horses. As long as he could support his weight on his back legs there was a chance.... |
