View Full Version : Its not all bad news for new Mazda cars!

Many people don't realise that the Mazdaspeed Protege's also have their share of problems. Since their release, the MSP's had complaints about a mysterious 'clunk' from the rear suspension, failing headunits and a terrible hesitation between 3500-5500rpms.

I'm happy to say that our waiting has paid off. Mazda released an ECU flash today that takes care of the hesitation that we have been suffering...with an added advantage...

It seems that leaning the fuel out a little has freed 10-20hp and 10-20lb/ft of torque. This isn'y just peak, but can be seen thru the ENTIRE rev range.

I just wanted to say, hang on RX8 owners! Its not all downhill! Things will get better and Mazda WILL do something about this, just give it some time. We waited almost 4 months for this with several people talking directly to Mazda engineers, RX8 owners are lucky because you have more people who care, and have more of a reputation for themselves(as in the Rotarynews.com guys)

Just to let you know, I'm no stranger to the rotary vehicles, I just couldn't afford one this time around. I have an '85 GS and an '88 10th Anniversary Edition TII. The HP is there...you'll see...

Here's a pretty graph to show off:

That's good to hear, maybe I'll have to worry a bit more about you MSP Protege guys now :)

Lets' hope they learn from their mistakes, and it won't take 4 months for us.

On the other hand, they've already paid us off, so maybe they DON'T care anymore!

After all, Protege owners never got any buyback or $$ so they owed the owners.

The guys at the maxima board have been praising the MSP's performance at the autox. I haven't looked at any results in a while myself, but if that's the case, a flashed ECU can only help (was there an aftermarket one avail beforehand or was this the first update of the ECU?)

This is a factory update for the ECU. Before this there were two products available from JoeP(the same guy who makes the manual boost controllers) which both cut down the amount of fuel which the car is being delivered.

My friend just had it done and it added hp for sure, and it got rid of that pesky hesitation! Props to the big M!!

Let's hope they do something like this for the 8!!!
