Let me know what you think of my new rims. 20x8.5 in the front and 20x10's in the rear. I'm having alittle trouble with rubbing in the rears on the fenders. Any easy way to stiffen up the rear and raise it alittle. Thanks Guys

I think it's too big

20's are too big for an rx-8. Those rims belong on an SUV or a luxury car.

Give us some more pix with different angles. So far I don't think they look too big, but more pix will tell.

For instance, I think the 17s for my winter tires are definitely too small. The stock 18s look better, but I've often wondered about how >18's would look. Of course the wheel style can make a big difference, but some times "size does make a difference".

Zoom, Zoom!

^ agreed chris, some just say that cuz its a number and they're just following what someone else said. 20's can look great if the wheel agrees with the rx8 lines.

Not being a smartass here but how does it affect the car's performance?

Not a big fan of black wheels, but those tuck in nicely.

Size looks pretty perfect to me.

I say if it doesn't raise the car off the ground and you can still steer like you're meant to, they aren't too big for the car. Since our rolling stock is 18, 20's don't look bad at all. Now 22's would be a different story...

with large enough wheel spacers, the sky is the limit.

Are they Falken Koblenz? It is hard to tell, but I think that is what they are... either that or something very similar.

Im sure performance wasnt in his thoughts when he decided to buy these wheels, its about style for this guy. Style wise i think they look sweet... would look 10 times better with tinted windows...IMO go as dark as legally possible all around, makes a TON of difference on the look of your ride and will set off the black in those wheels. All my opinion mind you. Looks good man.

jones75254
01-28-2007, 09:37 PM
.....oh yeah! and pop those wheels off and paint those calipers red, now that would look tight as hell...IMO of course, he he.

Thanks jones75254 I have a 67 GTO is for the performance end this is going to be more of a visual car...even tho the GTO is visual too. I still have to take the wheels off again for the rubbing issue and painted calipers will come too Cops and tint in my area dont mix....they have nothing better to do than pull cars over for that stuff....but eventually

Yeah man, even so (cops), you can go get 25-30% all around and be totally safe (30 being fail safe). Through my experience though, cops tend to turn their heads from tinted sports cars moreso than any other type car, ei. slammed 24 inch wheel rides, lil loud-ass ricers, ect. Sports cars are typically tinted out anyhow so it just seems normal rather than the tinted out "punk" cars. Tint is relatively cheap and the caliper paint is a few bucks at auto zone, i expect to see pics of that red rocket with tint and bright red calipers by this time next week!!! LOL later

i for one, am not a fan of 20s. but yours don't look bad

if you're rubbing in the rear you will need a fender roll or shave. you're offset doesn't seem to far out so that should fix it. if not, then go for a lil more negative camber

I think they're cool. I've read of some people rolling the rear fender...you could try that? Where'd you get 'em? What kinds are they? Can you make full-lock-to-lock turns?

not too bad...20's are a little too large for the car but it flows. The front splitters look a little funny but its ok to be different sometimes.

looks good to me. personally not a fan of multiple studs. tints will definetly help complimenting the rest of the car with the black rims.

When you have the fasteners you need to go at least 19 to have the wheel appear the same size as an 18, however 20 is to big for the limited torque that the 8 has.

Not necessarily. It depends on your state. Some states don't allow that much tint on your front windows.

This website has the percentages listed by law for each state.

It's personal opinion at this point but I think the style of wheels clash with the 8 entirely. Squared off spokes with a little "razzle-dazzle" fissure in the middle of each......... looks like a DUB magazene wheel. that style fits a blocky hummer well, but not a sexy curvy 8. An 8 would look better with say.... BBS thin spoked wheels (like the BBS RSR-GTs)

I think you guys are giving brutalbrad too much grief!! We still need to see more pics and different angles. I think my winter 17's are too small,... the factory 18's are good, but, at certain angles, I've thought even the 18s look small. I've wondered if 19's or 20's could look better. Give it a fair chance !!!

As for the wheel style, I've seen a lot worse on VR 8's. I generally don't like gray or black wheels on VR '8s (including my own winter wheels), but these could change my mind.

not bad. the rear offset looks "off". have you rolled/lipped the rear guards yet?
are you rubbing on the outside or on the inside?
when are you lowering it?

20's are too big for an rx-8. Those rims belong on an SUV or a luxury car.
and you know this is because you have had 20" on your rx8

I don't think it looks too bad, but you DEFINITELY need to fix that crooked strake.....and it would compliment your wheels to tint as dark as possible (as others have said). Oh and why are your strakes on the right side of the car red, but polished on the left side?

not bad, car looks like it's sagging a bit in the back (maybe it's just our funky car's stance or how you have it parked etc) Those look nice on the red though, good match. :)

I was waiting for someone to post about the mismatched strakes...nice eye Whitey. They all used to be red however the paint for some reason on the drivers side strakes was flaking off so i painted them silver and quickly threw them on there. Crooked nonetheless. I have my bodyshop where i work that will paint them ??? for you guys should i keep them red or go silver. Which do you think looks better. Im split on that decision

dmc27
01-31-2007, 01:48 PM
Red.

I like the color match on all colors, except black. But def. red on your VR since you've got the red & black going.

Oh, and did anyone mention tint?

Whitey
01-31-2007, 03:26 PM
should i keep them red or go silver. Which do you think looks better. Im split on that decision

I think you should go with silver because it balances out the polished lip on your wheels a little. The wheels don't look so out of place if you can throw bits of silver and black into the rest of the car. The key is to keep it simple.

^ hmmm. Went back & reviewed both photos (which conviently show both options :lol2:) and my opinion has been swayed.

The silver does bring it all together nicely.
